Couple Stunned After They’re Charged With Murder in Death of 10-Month-Old

- A Michigan couple has been charged with murder for allegedly starving their 10-month-old daughter to death. Seth Welch and his wife, Tatiana, both 27, stand accused of starving their infant daughter, Mary. She was found dead in their home near Grand Rapids on August 2. Seth’s jaw dropped when the judge read off the charges and Tatiana sobbed uncontrollably during the hearing. An autopsy revealed the cause of Mary’s death was malnutrition and dehydration due to neglect by adult caregivers. #InsideEdition
The husband acted so shocked as if he was expecting a lighter sentence. This sentence is fair, a life for a life.

One of the jurors said it reminded her of photos she'd seen of starving children from third world African countries. The detective who first interrogated them said he had to look at hundreds of photos of children who have been abused and malnourished, and said outright Mary was worse than any single one of those photos.
I was starved as a child. It happens more than you think. I’m blessed my grandma saved me. Bless Mary’s heart. She is no longer suffering at the hands of these monsters.

He made the call to 911 and the lack of empathy in his voice was chilling. The first responder asked if he was sure she was dead, and he responded: "Oh yeah, she's as dead as a doorknob." No parent in the world would even think of saying something so heartless about their child.
If you watch his interrogation video he's as totally unbothered through that whole thing too.

Little Mary had wasted muscles (as her mother's prosecutor said in court, "her body ate itself"), a damaged brain from lack of protein, and no energy to even cry low, let alone scream. That's what those monsters did to her. 😡

You must never have had a baby, so I guess you can't be blamed for not knowing, but babies can't eat regular food. Most likely what happened is that the mom was exclusively breastfeeding, but not making enough milk. These parents most likely weren't refusing to feed their baby, but made the mistake of assuming she was getting milk every time she suckled at mom's breast.

This short video doesn't even begin to tell of the horrors that baby truly suffered. They left her in filth, and she was covered in feces and sores. I remember hearing this story a couple of years ago, and I could not get the descriptions of her state out of my mind.😭

I remember this story. The wife would go to work everyday and the husband was left to care for the kids on their farm. They had other young daughters too. He’d be outside “working the land all day”. He’d leave her in her crib to “sleep” all day. Says he found her in the morning and called 911 but nothing about how the medical examiner says she’d been dead up to 3days bf the 911 call. Said nothing was wrong bc the baby never cried but that’s because she was so malnourished she didn’t have the strength. She weighed as much as a newborn, 8lbs, at 10mths and he went on about how his girls were naturally very skinny even though neither him nor his wife were… What the actual hell.
So gross. In pictures I can see I was a skinny baby, but my mom was giving me formula for one reason or another (perfectly valid baby food btw) and I had a reaction to a certain type. But she was working with doctors to sort it out!!

I was 19 when I had my daughter, and me and her mom went days without eating sometimes just to make sure we had enough money for her food and diapers. You have to have zero love for your child to let them starve.
I have my upmost respect for you. Granted I don’t think it’s right to have a baby at that age, but even when you were young and struggling, you made sure to feed and care for your child. ✊

hahaha, I remember when mine was born, there was no time for sleep...every 2 or less hours she would wake up,I had to have the bottle ready by then, but after 3 months she was finally big enough to take breast,she's 4 now but I have gotten so used to no sleep Q.Q , the first few days were so hard, she was a bit underweight too because I fail to notice she was ready for solids when she was 6 months but pick it back up after the doctor told me and got her right on weight after feeding her bowls and bowls of baby food, she so heavy and full of energy now hehe

You know at the time of the arrest Tatiana was pregnant with their 4th child. A baby boy that was taken over my CPS once she delivered him in prison. At least that little boy won't have to lead a life being treated so inhumanely. My guess is Tatiana loves to get pregnant and cares for herself but once a baby is born she and her husband were like "natural selection" if they die its all on them...funny how Tatiana and Seth looked so far from being malnourished and that's why all the kids were starving. The other 2 kids in that house went outside and ate grass and dirt.

UPDATE: The husband was convicted of Felony murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Wife did a plea deal in which she entered a no-contest plea to second degree murder which would have carried a 25 year minimum sentence (because she claimed she was abused and under duress by her husband), when told that that defense would not excuse her from felony murder, a law in Michigan got changed and now pleading duress can be considered a defense in felony murder she, in May of 2020 she was allowed to take back her plea and now she she is facing 1st degree felony murder and 1st degree child abuse. Thi8s is risky for her because IF she is found guilty of felony murder she faces a Mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.
Take 25 minimum OR roll the dice and possibly get life without parole. I hope she gets the same as her husband.

I have 3 children's...i did get angry at some situation but never at my child, it breaks my heart to see people dont appreciate what they have...my neighbour finally had a child after 18 years and that child grew to be a nice boy that greets everyone he sees.

A great portion of the world population shouldn't be parents for many reasons. It's too bad we don't have licenced parenthood. It'd help combat a lot of issues.
and yet everyone has the right to have as many babies as they want, regardless of their qualifications. everyone considers having babies to be a basic human right. having a baby is more noble to our society then adopting a child. why? because women's emotions tell them to have babies and so they have babies. its a classic case of primitive animal instincts being painted as virtues because its gratifying to their emotions.

No. His expression is NOT shock. It is outrage. All through, he seriously thought the basic rules of society didn't apply to hiim, nor did/does he think that he should be subject to the same laws as the rest of us, yet interestingly, before trial while held in prison, he repeatedly demanded medical attention - the same medical attention he denied his infant daughter. He was convicted, of course, and got the life without parole he richly deserved. Even so, that expression was "How DARE you accuse me? I am ABOVE the law."
It's hard enough to believe that one adult would do this. Two people doing this in lock step with each other is insane.

You obviously haven't read the update to this story the child had an illness and that was why she died it wasn't because they weren't feeding her it was because her body couldn't uptake the formula properly because it was poisonous formula it's now been recalled.

And this is why I was so angry after having a miscarriage a few years ago. I WANTED and planned for my child and lost it. But people like this get to have kids and not take care of them. I have an almost 2 year old now and if I hadn’t miscarried I wouldn’t have my son. But I still think about that baby all the time.
I’ve been hungry, homeless and scared. I got down to 90 pounds, but my beautiful daughter never missed a meal. She doesn’t even remember those times, because it was my burden to carry , not hers. Whatever your beliefs, it should never interfere with the health and happiness of your child.

He withdrew everything and left town. I had no job, so I get another but lost my home and belongings. The bills he said were paid were massively behind. My daughter and I lived out of my car until I could save money for deposits and first months rent. I saved every penny except what she needed. I was so scared that someone would try to get in the car I couldn’t sleep and soon became ill from exhaustion. There wasn’t a homeless population like today, and you tube channel giving you advice on how to live in a car. For patient safety I couldn’t work while exhausted. I found a basement floor where my daughter and I could sleep. I got my health back, and I never looked back. My biggest fear is being homeless. At that time the police would pull into any closed business that had a car in the lot because that’s trespassing. So parking was a nightmare. I saw on you tube where a guy is renting a storage unit. He sleeps in his car in the storage area. Why didn’t I think of that! I know why people move to warm areas because being cold is absolute hell. It adds another layer of struggle. I was 22 and dumb, but I never let my daughter down.

I wasn’t allowed to eat after my parents split when I was 10. My mother demanded we live with her out of spite, but my father couldn’t care less. My older sister and I were kicked out when I was 11 because I stood up for her in a fight with my mother. We lived with my father for a year, but my sister was at boarding school full time so she was ok. After a year my father had to move in with HIS mother so I was begrudgingly allowed to stay there for a year or so, then when I was 14 my mother let me back, but I had to pay £200 a month rent - I was 14 & this was in the early 90’s. She used to take my little sister to her boyfriends house most of the week & all weekends. The fridge was always bare. So at 16 I got a job in Mac Donald’s - i worked as many shifts as i could around school & college so that I was able to get at least one, sometimes two meals 5 x a week. It’s no wonder I started shoplifting - I was so good at it that I started doing it “to order” & got cash or my lunch bought in return. I’m not proud of it, but I’m a stubborn little fighter - lucky I was born with a hustler’s mind 🍀
