The fact that they didn’t even try to outdo each other to win but they genuinely loved singing with each other hurts. The next few rounds will probably just be the pink hair girl trying to survive rather than singing because she loves it, after all the one who motivated her to sing was the one she ended up killing.

From that one image of a human girl being held on a leash by an alien, I'm pretty sure when humans left Earth, they were overwhelmed by the superior technology of the aliens they found and were put into slavery. Either that, or Earth was just invaded and enslaved by aliens. Now, humanity only exists to serve as entertainment slaves for aliens.
I like how in the beginning, Mizi was singing the song with joy with Sua but when Sua dies, Mizi sings the rest of the song with sorrow and sings a bit slower, which shows how much Sua meant to Mizi, which is pretty damn heartbreaking.. :’(

i haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but clematis are a flower in the buttercup family and symbolize mischief, artifice and working around problems, which i think symbolizes the dark haired girl in this, since she's much more goofy, openly silly and ultimately the one who dies as a result. i wonder if the next alien stage participants will also have flower language!

clematis actually tends to have various meanings, both positive and negative. but i think the nature of the flower is most relative to this story. the clematis was named “clematis” for meaning climbing flower in ancient greek. it continues to grow despite the obstacles in its way. so i think it actually symbolizes mizi more, and how she will continue to climb the ranks after this event. however, the girls didnt know who would win first, so they probably sang this song for whoever won, to wish the winner good luck and remind them that they will always be by their side. i think it could also be an attempt to wish that the loser could be together with the winner, despite the chances of it falling on deaf ears. edit: coming back to this i think clematis could also be interpreted as the two girls overcoming the obstacle of the aliens and making it out despite the odds. that makes it even more tragic damn-
Warning, spoilers for 2 and 3 ⚠️ I'm rewatching after round 3, and i think that they were not supposed to sing together in unison, and that this was an act of defiance and love, probably a try to both stay alive by singing together. In the two other rounds, singers perform one after the other, they don't sing together: - Round 2: Till (white hair) sings first, and when it's the supposed turn for the other contestant, he smashes them. - Round 3: Ivan (Black hair) sings first, then we can see (but not hear) that the other participant is singing his piece, before it comes back to Ivan. This may explain why Misi (pink hair) was so shocked, maybe she was hoping thay they both could stay alive ? (English is not my native language, sorry in advance 😅)

From what we've been shown, I'm assuming Alien Stage is an idol survival show/game that aliens enjoy wherein humans are being held captive. Two people "battle" through performing, and whoever gets the lower score dies. Meanwhile, the one who wins that round advances to the next, and there can only be one winner/survivor in the end. It's still unclear if these idols are aware of what awaits them once they're on stage, but it looks like they've been in captivity + trained since childhood and only know this way of life. Both of them seemed to have worked hard in order to get on stage and even cheered each other on, only for them to be put up against each other. If they did know what was going to happen, I'm thinking that the two girl(friend)s in this video wanted to change their fate somehow by singing a duet instead of "fighting". We see their scores almost tied, but unfortunately someone still had to lose. They were still hopeful until the very end, and for a moment they seemed happy they got to perform their song together in their final moments. If they didn't know what was going to happen, then the ending is even more cruel. No matter the outcome, one of them would've been the reason why the other dies. All this for the sake of entertainment... The first round was already so deep and tragic. I can't wait for more characters and songs! I'm still in awe of how the quality of these animations improve every single time. I've been a fan for a while and it's amazing to witness the growth of your team in art, music, and storytelling 💖
Seeing how the girls were sweating like crazy throughout the whole show (especially at 2:56, it's like she was aware what her loss would cost her), I feel like they knew what was coming and still decided to enjoy their last moments together. Also, it looks like there will be more rounds with more characters introduced. A hell of a rollercoaster awaits...
I agree with this completely you can really tell that these two are in-love and probably wanted to survive, but as you know it's like an survival show as well for the humans, cause you can actually see them being held captive in the video by aliens, I feel really sad that only only one has to survive in these kind of games and it's probably just entertaining for the aliens to see this stuff that they have to face.
The story is even scarier than the previous ones, the animation is beautiful, the song is amazing. I am very happy that you continue to experiment and develop in animation stories
I really like the theory that they were trying to tie so neither of them would die but Miji did better by one point and won- that’s why they did a duet and why she was so shocked when Sua died 😭

But when she dies, Mizi’s eyes turn to the colour of orange clematis; a harsh but vibrant colour, the red-hued orange symbolises aggression, domination and power. She’ll play their game, but end it on her terms - for Sua.

@@Loxum8 I know this is 3 months late, but in Round 5 she's revealed to still be alive, that's what the errors at the end were. You can see the human rebellion get her out before the guards kill her when Luka looks back at her, which lead many to believe that he knew about this all along and that he was fucking with her to make her want revenge again. i agree, although if it was the case where one of the girls was more optimistic, it'd be the pink-haired girl. she was excited to "pass," most likely to the idol competition, and she was smiling in the portrait that was on the leaderboards. but the black-haired girl is not, the only time she smiles is around the pink-haired girl. the competiton may have offered something valuable for the girls, like an escape from their world, and the pink-haired girl dreamt about escaping together with the girl. but the black-haired girl may be more aware of the reality of the competiton, but continues smiling to protect her and her dreams.

What I also find interesting is that you can see a memory of them holding a pass, which makes you think they have already competed with other people but this was only round 1? "Don't leave my universe." Is sung in Sua's voice in the moment when she is staring into the camera just before she turns to face Mizi. I think she knew. I think she resolved to lose to protect Mizi. That's why that last smile before she's killed looks so pained while Mizi is smiling more genuinely. That's why Sua is sweating more.

The pink haired girl collapsed to the ground and is grieving over the loss of her friend/lover and the aliens are laughing at her misery. When I'd think of idol shows, usually something cute and light-hearted like love live and idolmaster cinderella girls come to my mind. Never would have I thought an idol show can be a science fiction, horror, thriller, survival and musical all at once. The idea overall is very unique and interesting, I'm hyped for round 2!

Let me tell you about a webnovel that just got a webtoon called 'Debut or Die'. It's such an interesting idol series that makes you think it's a regular slice of life but it's a survival story that has so many twists and turns. Sadly there's no official translation yet but a lot of fan translates out there.
Sua definitely did this to save Mizi. Mizi notice her right away when they were kids, which makes me think her voice stood out. That she was better than the rest and she idolized her plus it was confirmed in their community posts that Sua was atleast thinking of saving Mizi, we know cause Ivan was mocking her for it even though he did the same thing for love
Anyone notice that Mizi’s eyes changed from green to orange near the end? They were green up until Mizi looked at Sua during what looked like an audition, but then changed back to green when she watched Sua die, then went back to orange as she looked in horror and trauma at Sua’s blood on the ground. Reminds me a lot of Beloved in a way when the orange-haired girl watched her lover die (her eyes changed from orange to gray).

I’m talking specifically about two parts where lighting has nothing to do with it, as they were times during those parts where Mizi’s eyes were green. I’m not sure how much sense I’m making right now though, lol.
Mizi's voice actress has done such an incredible work here !! She was able to expose the songs successfully and kept me trembling for the feelings i got. I listened to mizi's ver of black sorrow and back to "my clematis" and i assure that not only me but also you can feel that its more than songs.
Small things I noticed: - The scene where the two are playing ‘outside’ you can actually see that there are walls blocking them in, meaning that these characters have lived in this boxed in place for a while (Also there are the collars, but this is just further evidence.) - Based on the white shirt-like dresses and the scene of all these kids singing, I’m guessing this is some survival singing competition, where kids are raised specifically for this companion, or at least picked specifically for it. I’m not sure what the winner gets, but I’d assume it’d mean that you don’t have to participate anymore. Like in the hunger games once you win your free from it forever. I’d guess we will see a few videos showing each of the contestants and their challenges so we get attached and watch as characters kill each other in a desperate, murderous song of survival. - When the girl found a weird pass thing, I think it either meant a pass to participate in the tournament, or a pass out of it, but it’d end up being untrue? - In black haired girls last shot seen alive, she appears to be sweating a lot more then pink haired girl, possibly showing she was aware of her soon demise, but attempting to put up a happy face for pink haired girl, or to smile/look at her for once last time, or even smiling at pink hair in relief that pink hair would survive.
To point out, I think that the “pass” in the past cutscenes were to show how they progressed as singers through the “auditions” to become successful together however, I want to believe they had no clue that the loser would die which is why pink hair girl was so shocked in the end and why they were both still so happy to sing with each other and that they payed no mind to the score.

I just realised that a collar is put on Mizi (pink haired girl) at the end (3:33) because collars are put on contestants who might escape: young and/or misbehaving contestants, just like we do pets (Ex: Till is very rebellious and has a long collar) and Mizi tried to break the system by performing a duet with Sua instead of trying to best her in singing.

You can tell that the team improve a lot on the animations. The singing is so beautiful. And God especially the ending made me so sad. I love how I get so depressed so quickly with these videos as it shows an amazing story. 1000/10 video. Can't wait for more.
I don't think there was some kind of "strategy" to their performance. They loved each other, they knew this would be their last moments together. They both decided they'd rather die cherishing one another in the same way they always have. I do agree with others also that Mizi didn't think she'd win. Personally, I consider Mizi's vocal's to be stronger, but she was inspired by Nua so it would be hard to her to see it that way herself. I think that Nua recognized her talent, though, and was always proud of her for it.
I am blown away by this. Idol hunger games is not something I though I needed in my life I found it yesterday, and yet, I have probably watched it ten times already. It’s *so* haunting. I get goose bumps every single time. The transition from the beginning childhood memory to the present makes me go CRAZY. Even the opening makes me freeze, I’m in awe, it gives me serious chills. “My god. My universe” makes my heart ache. And the way that her death is *quiet* no panic no gunshot just music. Music and blood. The way the music takes a somber yet stil calm tone. This was to be expected, it says. The last “My clematis” is so haunting it’s left echoing in my mind In conclusion, I am so normal about this This whole series- all three of the videos that are out, is an absolute masterpiece.

Somehow, in less that 4 minutes this video made me get so incredibly attached and worried for the characters, to the point that the end of the "round" gave me immense chills and made me cover my mouth from shock... I want to cry, but I can't cry seeing such a masterpiece
After rewatching a couple times, my theory is this: Either neither of them knew it was a vs match (earlier in the video showed someone preforming by themself and being fine, and they performed the same song) Or they both knew, but they both expected to be the one to die. While they’re singing, they appear to have so much resolve, I imagine them both thinking “if only she lives, that will be good enough.” It makes the pink haired girl winning more painful, as you can see her shock, realizing she’d won. Even if she didn’t intend to.
I think the children literally trained their whole lives to be put in that game. They've got collars even as kids. The aliens won the invasion happened a long time ago. The 2 girls being pit against each other was probably within their expectations going into a tournament. Being the one 'responsible' for their best friend's death makes the story even darker

Coming back and watching this again, right after doing some research on flowers (Including the Clematis) made me realize, that since Clematis represent growth in a relationship, they're practically singing about rhe growth in their relationship. Sobbing. Its the red Clematis btw, it symbolizes "the growth and intertwining of relationships."

The aliens will cheat on humans. They were able to make a tie, but purposely adding one more point to the pink haired girl. Even if she won later, if it wasn't rebellion, there wouldn't be any 'freedom' for the pink haired girl.
This one is really mind-blowing. The earth seems to be normal not until the alien invade and held them captive. They created this " Alien stage " where aliens can enjoy watching a survival game for humans that are picked to sing on this stage. This looks really interesting. I love the animation. it seems humans have been kept around, as pets and entertainment. they were defeated so very easily that the aliens hold no grudge against them and don't even consider them sentient. they can sing and dance prettily unlike other animals, so it makes sense to use them for novelty entertainment. however the murder is a little much, i'm assuming it's because aliens morals are completely different from ours.
this is something I didn't even consider to my 500th rewatch, but them being shown as kids singing the song kind of implies is a folk song or something. Maybe the contestants get to choose their songs and they choose a song from their childhood that would comfort them since they were terrified. (Maybe one was more scared that the other and the other one suggested it like "hey, lets sing our song." oh god I'm crying)

But on the other hand, Mizi was very happy during the performance, so I don't think she would look like that if she knew her universe could die that very day. Also, the expression of despair and surprise she makes at the end is quite shocking. But maybe she did that because she expected to lose. So I agree with you too.

The transition at very the start, from them singing the song in a capella in their childhood memory, then past forward in the future where they're on stage and the instrumental enters the song was fucking BRILLIANT. Not only was the transition smooth, but it goes to show how much they love singing this song in particular. They've sang it since childhood. Ok, my theory is that they planed to get the same score in order to break the system and both survive but the black haired girl knew that wouldnt work and one would be killed either way so she decided to purposely get a lower score to save her friend (pink haired girl). In one of the scences we can hear the voice of the pink hair girl and we see the dark hair girl also seemingly sing aswell but we dont hear her voice which is higher than the pink haired girls voice. I think she did this to lower her score as i said before to save her friend.

The fact that they didn’t even try to outdo each other to win but they genuinely loved singing with each other hurts. From that one image of a human girl being held on a leash by an alien, I'm pretty sure when humans left Earth, they were overwhelmed by the superior technology of the aliens they found and were put into slavery. i haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but clematis are a flower in the buttercup family and symbolize mischief, artifice and working around problems, which i think symbolizes the dark haired girl in this, since she's much more goofy, openly silly and ultimately the one who dies as a result. i wonder if the next alien stage participants will also have flower language!

clematis actually tends to have various meanings, both positive and negative. but i think the nature of the flower is most relative to this story. the clematis was named “clematis” for meaning climbing flower in ancient greek. it continues to grow despite the obstacles in its way. so i think it actually symbolizes mizi more, and how she will continue to climb the ranks after this event. however, the girls didnt know who would win first, so they probably sang this song for whoever won, to wish the winner good luck and remind them that they will always be by their side. i think it could also be an attempt to wish that the loser could be together with the winner, despite the chances of it falling on deaf ears.
edit: coming back to this i think clematis could also be interpreted as the two girls overcoming the obstacle of the aliens and making it out despite the odds. that makes it even more tragic damn-

I'm rewatching after round 3, and i think that they were not supposed to sing together in unison, and that this was an act of defiance and love, probably a try to both stay alive by singing together. In the two other rounds, singers perform one after the other, they don't sing together:
- Round 2: Till (white hair) sings first, and when it's the supposed turn for the other contestant, he smashes them.
- Round 3: Ivan (Black hair) sings first, then we can see (but not hear) that the other participant is singing his piece, before it comes back to Ivan.
This may explain why Misi (pink hair) was so shocked, maybe she was hoping thay they both could stay alive ?

From what we've been shown, I'm assuming Alien Stage is an idol survival show/game that aliens enjoy wherein humans are being held captive. Two people "battle" through performing, and whoever gets the lower score dies. Meanwhile, the one who wins that round advances to the next, and there can only be one winner/survivor in the end.
It's still unclear if these idols are aware of what awaits them once they're on stage, but it looks like they've been in captivity + trained since childhood and only know this way of life. Both of them seemed to have worked hard in order to get on stage and even cheered each other on, only for them to be put up against each other. If they did know what was going to happen, I'm thinking that the two girl(friend)s in this video wanted to change their fate somehow by singing a duet instead of "fighting". We see their scores almost tied, but unfortunately someone still had to lose. They were still hopeful until the very end, and for a moment they seemed happy they got to perform their song together in their final moments. If they didn't know what was going to happen, then the ending is even more cruel. No matter the outcome, one of them would've been the reason why the other dies. All this for the sake of entertainment...
The first round was already so deep and tragic. I can't wait for more characters and songs! I'm still in awe of how the quality of these animations improve every single time. I've been a fan for a while and it's amazing to witness the growth of your team in art, music, and storytelling 💖

But when she dies, Mizi’s eyes turn to the colour of orange clematis; a harsh but vibrant colour, the red-hued orange symbolises aggression, domination and power. She’ll play their game, but end it on her terms - for Sua.

You can see the human rebellion get her out before the guards kill her when Luka looks back at her, which lead many to believe that he knew about this all along and that he was fucking with her to make her want revenge again. i agree, although if it was the case where one of the girls was more optimistic, it'd be the pink-haired girl. she was excited to "pass," most likely to the idol competition, and she was smiling in the portrait that was on the leaderboards. but the black-haired girl is not, the only time she smiles is around the pink-haired girl. the competiton may have offered something valuable for the girls, like an escape from their world, and the pink-haired girl dreamt about escaping together with the girl. but the black-haired girl may be more aware of the reality of the competiton, but continues smiling to protect her and her dreams.

3:08 this scene is genuinely the most disturbing and heart wrenching part of the video. The pink haired girl collapsed to the ground and is grieving over the loss of her friend/lover and the aliens are laughing at her misery.
When I'd think of idol shows, usually something cute and light-hearted like love live and idolmaster cinderella girls come to my mind. Never would have I thought an idol show can be a science fiction, horror, thriller, survival and musical all at once. The idea overall is very unique and interesting, I'm hyped for round 2!

They were green up until Mizi looked at Sua during what looked like an audition, but then changed back to green when she watched Sua die, then went back to orange as she looked in horror and trauma at Sua’s blood on the ground.
Reminds me a lot of Beloved in a way when the orange-haired girl watched her lover die (her eyes changed from orange to gray).

Small things I noticed:
- The scene where the two are playing ‘outside’ you can actually see that there are walls blocking them in, meaning that these characters have lived in this boxed in place for a while (Also there are the collars, but this is just further evidence.)
- Based on the white shirt-like dresses and the scene of all these kids singing, I’m guessing this is some survival singing competition, where kids are raised specifically for this companion, or at least picked specifically for it. I’m not sure what the winner gets, but I’d assume it’d mean that you don’t have to participate anymore. Like in the hunger games once you win your free from it forever.
I’d guess we will see a few videos showing each of the contestants and their challenges so we get attached and watch as characters kill each other in a desperate, murderous song of survival.
- When the girl found a weird pass thing, I think it either meant a pass to participate in the tournament, or a pass out of it, but it’d end up being untrue?
- In black haired girls last shot seen alive, she appears to be sweating a lot more then pink haired girl, possibly showing she was aware of her soon demise, but attempting to put up a happy face for pink haired girl, or to smile/look at her for once last time, or even smiling at pink hair in relief that pink hair would survive.
To point out, I think that the “pass” in the past cutscenes were to show how they progressed as singers through the “auditions” to become successful together however, I want to believe they had no clue that the loser would die which is why pink hair girl was so shocked in the end and why they were both still so happy to sing with each other and that they payed no mind to the score.
And the black haired girl didnt smile in her photo whereas the pink hair girl looked neutral and had a smile. I think black hair girl mightve known that this would happen since ages ago

I just realised that a collar is put on Mizi (pink haired girl) at the end (3:33) because collars are put on contestants who might escape: young and/or misbehaving contestants, just like we do pets (Ex: Till is very rebellious and has a long collar) and Mizi tried to break the system by performing a duet with Sua instead of trying to best her in singing.
This hits so much harder after the MIZISUA video

You can tell that the team improve a lot on the animations. The singing is so beautiful. And God especially the ending made me so sad. I love how I get so depressed so quickly with these videos as it shows an amazing story. 1000/10 video. Can't wait for more.

I don't think there was some kind of "strategy" to their performance. They loved each other, they knew this would be their last moments together. They both decided they'd rather die cherishing one another in the same way they always have.
I do agree with others also that Mizi didn't think she'd win. Personally, I consider Mizi's vocal's to be stronger, but she was inspired by Nua so it would be hard to her to see it that way herself. I think that Nua recognized her talent, though, and was always proud of her for it.

I am blown away by this. Idol hunger games is not something I though I needed in my life
I found it yesterday, and yet, I have probably watched it ten times already. It’s *so* haunting. I get goose bumps every single time. The transition from the beginning childhood memory to the present makes me go CRAZY. Even the opening makes me freeze, I’m in awe, it gives me serious chills.
“My god. My universe” makes my heart ache. And the way that her death is *quiet* no panic no gunshot just music. Music and blood. The way the music takes a somber yet stil calm tone. This was to be expected, it says. The last “My clematis” is so haunting it’s left echoing in my mind

Somehow, in less that 4 minutes this video made me get so incredibly attached and worried for the characters, to the point that the end of the "round" gave me immense chills and made me cover my mouth from shock... I want to cry, but I can't cry seeing such a masterpiece
After rewatching a couple times, my theory is this:
Either neither of them knew it was a vs match (earlier in the video showed someone preforming by themself and being fine, and they performed the same song)
Or they both knew, but they both expected to be the one to die. While they’re singing, they appear to have so much resolve, I imagine them both thinking “if only she lives, that will be good enough.”
It makes the pink haired girl winning more painful, as you can see her shock, realizing she’d won. Even if she didn’t intend to.
I think the children literally trained their whole lives to be put in that game. They've got collars even as kids. The aliens won the invasion happened a long time ago. The 2 girls being pit against each other was probably within their expectations going into a tournament. Being the one 'responsible' for their best friend's death makes the story even darker
I think she expected to lose because the black haired girl was the better singer. But these contests are usually a popularity contest. So because the pink haired girl became beautiful she won instead to her horror.
Considering other comments and the concept looking like an 'idol elimination show', I think that lone idol shown is one who's won the show and is allowed to live to entertain the aliens since they like them so much? It only makes the latter interpretation hurt MORE because of reasons you've said ┭┮﹏┭┮

Coming back and watching this again, right after doing some research on flowers (Including the Clematis) made me realize, that since Clematis represent growth in a relationship, they're practically singing about rhe growth in their relationship. Sobbing.
Its the red Clematis btw, it symbolizes "the growth and intertwining of relationships."
The detail in this is absolutely stunning at 0:17 one of the leaves that fly across the screen glitches for a brief moment

The aliens will cheat on humans. They were able to make a tie, but purposely adding one more point to the pink haired girl. Even if she won later, if it wasn't rebellion, there wouldn't be any 'freedom' for the pink haired girl.

This one is really mind-blowing. The earth seems to be normal not until the alien invade and held them captive. They created this " Alien stage " where aliens can enjoy watching a survival game for humans that are picked to sing on this stage.

it seems humans have been kept around, as pets and entertainment. they were defeated so very easily that the aliens hold no grudge against them and don't even consider them sentient. they can sing and dance prettily unlike other animals, so it makes sense to use them for novelty entertainment. however the murder is a little much, i'm assuming it's because aliens morals are completely different from ours.

this is something I didn't even consider to my 500th rewatch, but them being shown as kids singing the song kind of implies is a folk song or something. Maybe the contestants get to choose their songs and they choose a song from their childhood that would comfort them since they were terrified. (Maybe one was more scared that the other and the other one suggested it like "hey, lets sing our song." oh god I'm crying)

But on the other hand, Mizi was very happy during the performance, so I don't think she would look like that if she knew her universe could die that very day. Also, the expression of despair and surprise she makes at the end is quite shocking. But maybe she did that because she expected to lose. So I agree with you too.

The transition at very the start, from them singing the song in a capella in their childhood memory, then past forward in the future where they're on stage and the instrumental enters the song was fucking BRILLIANT.
Not only was the transition smooth, but it goes to show how much they love singing this song in particular. They've sang it since childhood. Not to mention it seemed like Sua was surprised at first when Mizi started singing along with her. This might imply that that moment was the first time they've sang a song in duet, which shows just how much they love singing together, and then that same song becomes the last song they'll ever sing together..

Ok, my theory is that they planed to get the same score in order to break the system and both survive but the black haired girl knew that wouldnt work and one would be killed either way so she decided to purposely get a lower score to save her friend (pink haired girl). In one of the scences we can hear the voice of the pink hair girl and we see the dark hair girl also seemingly sing aswell but we dont hear her voice which is higher than the pink haired girls voice. I think she did this to lower her score as i said before to save her friend.
