The giant tripod is clearly the best regardless of stats.
By that logic, it's better to drop the Doomstalker and take two Reanimators.
To clarify, I am not saying you are incorrect. I am saying that I will be taking two Reanimators.
technically it is a quad pod
Truly. Coolest model=best regardless
@@Andrewjones-dy7kh True but that sounds weird.
@@christopherclayton5500 By that logic you should be taking Doomstalkers and Reanimators. I’ve got two of each
Just picked up second Doomstalker. FINALLY I can field my oodles of Wraiths, Spyders and Scarabs without just getting flattened. The age of the robot skeleton is over, the time of the robot beetle has come!
Same here! Also i can now use those creepy centipedes from FW that I bought long long time ago but never field them
Last night I played against my Buddies Necron army. Did not realize how dangerous Lokhust Heavy Destroyers could be until he managed to kill my Lion El’Jonson in just two lucky hits.
Heavy Lokhusts are brutal with either loadout.
They're always the #1 priority for the opponent at my table.
Are you not keeping the Lion close to infantry? He needs that lone op ability so he can get in and do damage
@@Seti12345if it was hypercrypt detachment it’s likely they teleported in within 12in
@@Seti12345 It was my first time using him and I was an idiot. I deep striked him with Terminators to take out his Doomstalkers. But he just turned his Destroyers around and blasted Lion on his next turn. If I'd known how powerful they were, I wouldn't have done that.
The monolith has big anti tank guns too!
My PBC took a cool 32 dmg from those death rays the other day....yikes
If you spike with some sustains. Oh boi does it fuck shit up@@jamescasey6387
My friend and I have had long discussions about this, ended up settling on 3 LHDs in reserves, dropping in and deleting the enemies best thing
I like Big guns and i cannot lie,
You other lords can't deny
That when a destroyer walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round base in your face,
you get Gaussed!
I had great fun with 3LHDs sitting with the silent king, reanimator, and technomancer sitting in my backline.
One thing to consider: Aircraft can’t be charged. So if you are playing Ork or other heavy melee enemy’s. The Flyer prob won’t get a scratch while move blocking the enemy
I used my Doom Scythe with Hypercrypt legion for a game. Being able to pull it off the board and reposition it along the edge each turn was great. It means I can keep it far away from a lot of enemy units, and never have to worry about it's flyer movement.
I love the idea of a fleet of vanishing doom scythes that comes in for a strafing run and just phase away. Hella a Necron way to say “Welcome to my tomb world. There will be no survivors.”
That sounds so epic. Wish it was cheaper tho
I hadn’t thought of this interaction which solves some problems. I think doom scythes are cool but hate the aircraft rules.
I'm looking to use my Doomstalkers in the Canoptek detachment, but when I finally finish a monolith I'll be trying out the Heavy Destroyers there.
The Scythe's somewhat better in Hypercrypt Legion though, as provided you maintain the board edges you can teleport out of range of a lot of shots. Plus for 1CP you can give it a 4++ against enemy shooting, giving durability somewhere between the Stalker and the Ark (assuming you aren't using that stratagem on a monolith or something). And unlike those two, as an aircraft not many units will be able to charge and hit it in melee (which is especially bad in Hypercrypt as it prevents you from teleporting away again).
Not sure how much it affects the numbers or if it makes it competitive, but combined with its special rule I think there's a place for it. Plus it's just fun to have a teleporting death croissant..
See I was initially on the Doomscythe hype train, but then I realised you could also use hypercrypt shenanigans to reposition a DDA.
The DDA has more wounds, a native invuln, a stronger big gun - and its cheaper.
I dont think the resistance to being charged is that big of an advantage. If your big cannon is getting charged its likely more a consequence of poor positioning. And in most cases its a situational advantage you are paying more points for ans draining more CP for, on a weaker frame with a weaker gun.
@@samg7430 YOu can block off units with that big flying base.
@tonylittleton8549 still pretty situational for additional cost on a worse frame thats costing you CP
For the most part I agree. As a general rule the Ark is just better. Guess my point is there're situational uses where a Scythe might be better and Hypercrypt is where you can make the most of it.
For example if you know your opponent hasn't got flyers, you can be more daring with 9inch redeploys because you don't need to worry about being locked in combat, making the Scythe a decent backline raider. And while the big gun's not as good the ability's pretty helpful, and the secondary destructor is quite a bit better at dealing with marine equivilants compared with the Ark's flayer arrays.
@sm901ftw yes the flayer arrays are trash I'll give you that 😅
I say give it a go and see if you enjoy using it. I'm wanting to play with 10 praetorians in Hypercrypt and really maximise their DS, charge reroll, fall back and charge shenanigans. But generally a suboptimal unit so who am I to judge!
I just realized those damage calculations are without cover. I wonder if that's a pretty big mistake and skews results. Not having cover in 10th (at least on decent boards) is a rarity and mostly only relevant for factions that have reliable ways to ignore cover (such as T'au).
Feel like the toss up is really between Lokhurst and Doomstalker, ane they do kind of fill different roles. I tend to run doomstalker because I prefer canoptic court
Lokhust 👍
Great comparison! Thanks!
Great video, really helpful!
In terms of durability, it's worth remembering that you can effectively lone op the doomstalker in the canoptek court for 1cp each turn.
Also remember that Necrons have a lot of access to full rerolls to hit and lethal hits on a 5+, you can reliably kill tanks of they step on points and you have 6 lokhust destroyers with a lord hanging around.
I love the necron anti-tank models. Pre-codex I made a list that was the Silent King, a technomancer with sovereign coronal, 3 DDA's, 3 doomstalkers, and 3 units of 3 lokhust heavies. I played a dumb multiplayer game with multiple friends using that list and killed so much stuff. It was great lol
if your opponent has made the mistake of throwing their monster or vehicle on an objective, canoptek court immortals can shred through them with dev wounds as well, if you've got the setup for sustained hits 2 on a 5+.
So best option is to bring all of them??

I do really like the idea of a Doomsday Ark sitting in the middle and the LHD’s on either side (maybe 2 Gauss and 1 Enmitic in each trio)
I got an upcoming game that is my first since the codex dropped. 1500 points, which is 500 points more than what I usually play. Going up against Thousand Sons, so there will be Terminators, and possibly both Magnus and a Knight Abominant. I'm bringing the Void Dragon, but also a Doomstalker and a unit of Heavy Destroyers. Two Gauss, one Exterminator, and a Lord. Trying things out to see what can be achieved.
I think in this case it’s safer to assume you remain stationary 2/3 of the time. It’s such a boost to the DDA that you’ll lean towards staying still more often than not.
The doomstalker is part of the reason why I started necrons and I still dont have 1, it is a disgace. LHDs have worked well for me so far and Im eager to try my DDA out soon
I like my doomsday arks in a Hypercrypt along with a monolith and a nightbringer… yes that’s expensive and probably half my army in points but it has one hell of a punch for lower points games i go with heavy destroyers cause that gun they have has some real kick to it… and they are hardy enough really.
It's good to have a distraction while the nightbringer gets closer
This is very relevant for the list I assemble right now.
Love the constant uploads
yeah i want a honorable mention of my sweet monolith that just shot 10 deathray shots to a 2 man space marine squad. jokes aside i would like to keep the cnoptek court out of the equations unless the rest get the +1 to hit from the awakened in the same table. it makes the cnoptek stuff look playable when theres a better alternative.
I'd love a series of videos comparing the different options in one kit. I have the doomsday/ghost ark kit and am curious which is the better option if I only build 1. Obviously it depends on the full army list, but just generally point for point it would be nice to know the best options.
I would say the Doomsday ark is better unless your using a big swarm of warriors and you want that repair ability on the ghost ark but overall I think the doomsday ark is better use
Making do with my Heavy destroyers rn. But I want at least 2 doomstalkers, I just love the way they look
kinda would like to see the normal lohkust destroyer in comparison just as a note
Thank you
Doomstalkers in Canoptek Court seem pretty autotake, good dmg output, quite tough and can use the "cant shoot me outside of 12" on it while it babysits the deployment zone. Outside that I would agree on the DDA being better, its not the best dynasty but the phalanx does allow it -1 dmg which could be big for it. Almost any list i run tends to have one or two lone LHDs in it. Being 50pts they are easier to fit in round the edges of your list, can be useful small units for objective shenanigans and can sometimes find it easier to move into firing lanes on terrain heavy boards while the DDA and Stalker tend to be at least a little more restricted.
LHDs can also benefit from plunging fire. Especially cool with enmitics
I initially considered LHD w/ Lord for my my hypercrypt list but someone else pointed out that 6 regular LD w/ lord are more reliable with lethal hits and better AP and better damage.
Im kinda sad that you revealed that HD do the most damage.. it was pretty easy to read from just looking at the datasheets 6 month ago, but people still seem to not notice how busted they are.
But luckily you did not reveal that they are also some of the tankiest as well.
Having a squad of 3 of those guys makes them virtually unkillable, especially when you fire long range guns at them. they basically work like a single big tank that has old abbaddon or ghazkull rules where you often can not damage them by more than 4 wounds.
SO SO many times are anti tank guns used to try to kill these guys, and more often than not they only have 1-2 shots, or maybe have more shots but miss enough so that one or two of these guys simply survive shooting, and what happens then? Correct, you just reanimate an entire model, 50pts, for free, that needs to be shot down again, and giving you another free shot again.
these things with the necron army rule are just bonkers, especially having 6 or 9 of these.
I use LHD more than the other two. Main reason is they can have a leader so can make use of enhancements
The only problem i see is that the destroyer lord is melee only :( need that SoL back for them or at least let us add in a plasmancer instead
Been using three LHD with the hyperphase and reroll attacks enhancement for a 5+ rerollable lethals that jumps in every turn from a different board edge.
Please tell me the tesseract ark is mentioned?
I have such a love-hate relationship with the LHDs. They can stack on the damage, but without the old hit rerolls from 9th, they are so swingy. Plus my buddy has a habit of just rolling sixes whenever I finally get a shot through on his Leman Russes. But I do agree on the Doomstalkers. Even in the Canoptek Court they can struggle to put reliable damage against big stuff, being that its gun is basically a higher strength version of a Redemptor macro plasma. So I think the LHDs or Ark are still pretty necessary
I only ever use the Doom stalker for anti elite infantry, and if I can't target them, the must something tanky. I had never considered it's sturdyness tho. I only ever notice it's underperformance in dealing damage 😅
Thanks Auspex for making me feel ok again on my 2x Doomsday Ark investment just before the codex release
I’m going to create a list using only this
TSK and void dragon would be good in this list , so you get a priority list for points
LHD seem the most flexible which is why we see them show up in competitive lists.
choice for me. Not only are they comparably one of the best, they look the coolest and they are considerably cheaper to purchase than the arks. Heavy destroyers are another excellent option as they can be kitted out for anti-infantry (though there are plenty of other options for that) as well as anti-tank.
I've been running 3 of the doomstalkers since 10th dropped and they have been MVPs most of the time.
I just wish the Doom Stalker didn't look so much like H.G.Wells worst nightmare.
Hide your LHDs in reserves until you're ready to roll them in and kill the scariest thing on your opponents side.
Has anyone got any good ideas as to why the Doom Scythe is so expensive in points?
I'd like to see how bad 200pts of the Seraptek Heavy Construct compares to those units
This is a “why choose” discussion 😊
The numbers look a bit fudged on the durability weighted to 200 pts, lokhust heavies are 4 wound models per 50 pts, any damage above 4 (missile launcher / lascannon) kills 50pts and the extra damage is wasted, so its more of a step function rather than a continuous number up to 200 pts (16 wounds). In a way this makes lokhust heavies more annoying to kill because then 50 pts can eat 2 lascannon shots (low roll:2 + high roll:7) killing 50 pts instead of that damage flowing over if it was the ark, for example. Downside being that the damage potential of the squad goes down every 50 pts though. Normalizing to 50pts might make more sense for this reason. Maybe you took this into account in a different way though, not sure.
Considering I don’t want to build a DDA after I built a ghost ark, the walker is automatically the best.
Did you account for overkill in your stats ? if the doomdays Ark deals 4.5W on a terminator 1.5W are lost wich is 1/3 of it's dps .
Yes, I always do with damage calculations
I just love my giant Necron Croissant, stats be damned
Biggest problem with aircraft right now is the rules. They need to come 6" from the edge and they can only move forward. The enemy can easily move block it out of the field. Same goes for the abduction croissant.
doom and night scythes should have 4++ and or hover
What’s Admech’s best anti tank?
Option D: All of the Above.
I played my first game with the new codex and I did 30 damage with a monolith to an ork kill rig. That thang is damn near auto include
Was it a misprint that the Doomsday Ark is showing 185 points in the Codex? Im also seeing a vast difference in overall point values in the Codex, than the 40k app...
Nah they just updated the points after they sold everyone the book. Good old GW.
heavy Destroyers with a Lochust lord :D
Crits hits on 5+ :D
though Exterminator generally does more dam then Destructor due to the many attacks.
I found hard to belive that is more valuable than tirannofex with rupture cannon but still he cost 45 points more
Triarch Stalkers with Heavy Gauss Array too weak to even consider I take it
I have 6 lokust heavies, a doomstalker, and a DDA. For pure mobility and damage output, it's the DDA and LHDs every time. I have been begging for GW to give the Doomscythe the hover ability. I have 3 fucking planes and I only ever use them in 3k or above games because of their fly ability without being able to hover. It's infuriating.
Im ready for Necrons to dominate the meta
Use all three for maximum rage when they all miss haha
3 doomstalker list
I run 2 Doomstalkers, 1 Doomsday Ark, 1 3 man unit of heavy Destroyers and the Nightbringer
I don't understand "weighting" the damage?
Like what does "per 200pts" even mean? Can you say it in a sentence maybe?
@@matthewryan7775 The DDA and LHD can be fielded at 200 pts so it's easy to compare them against eachother. The doomstalker is 135 points a model, so to make it an apples to apples comparison he calculated the damage per point and then multipled by 200 to compare against the first two. If you don't weight them the same you can't compare them and 200 was the easiest choice here.
void dragon is also anti tank
BEST anti tank are inmortals doing mortals
The army I'm starting is Cryptek themed so it's 100% doomstalkers
The answer is Tesla immortals with dev wounds...
Best anti tank is scarabs exploding
Doomscythe ftw
snazzy

Holy shit, less than a minute.
Doom Ark is massively overrated, Heavy Lokhusts are fantastic, and Doomstalkers are a hidden gem that thankfully more people seem to be coming around to now that the codex is out.
