    If your Freezer is cold, but the Refrigerator is too warm, the problem 9 out of 10 times is the defrost heater at the bottom of the freezer coils. It's easy to spot if it's bad, it should be clear, and if the tube is darkened, it's almost always bad. They run under $20, including both the defrost sensor and the temperature sensor.
    Defrost the freezer, it's probably frozen solid, and then there are only 2 screws to remove, to replace the old sensor with a new one. Save the old heater and check it out. We have had our GE unit for around 15 years, and it's gone through 3 ice makers, 2 logic boards, 6 defrost heaters, and more. Last time we buy GE.
    What we do, is at the first hint of trouble, we order a new heater w/sensors, and have it on hand. As soon at the temp starts to go wacky, we defrost, pop in a new heater, and all is good for a year to 18 months. We can swap the heater in under 10 minutes, The only thing that takes time is defrosting, and unloading and loading the freezer.
    I believe you can use a voltmeter to test the resistance of the sensors, and can tell if they are good or not. It's interesting how many problems are related to the heaters. Our first three replacements were GE branded parts. They didn't last any longer then Chinese knockoffs, but YMMV. I just finished yet another repair, and hoping the temp goes down properly. Last time I replaced the defroster sensor, and this time the upper Temp sensor. Next time, I'll replace the lower one if needed. I should add, that I have some background in sensor implementation, and sometimes a sensor will test as fine, but not be fine under working conditions, in this case 0 degrees F. So, I just replace them while replacing other parts. Good Luck!

      @@MCLIFE786 have you changed out the heater? And, you must let the unit defrost entirely. We found that out, after replacing the sensors and heater, things were still freezing. But once we defrosted, and opened up frozen passages, all worked fine. So, try that.

      @@harrisfogel1697 i did change the heater a year ago since then heater is working fine but after a year now my refrigerator is too cold i did open the coils cover to make sure if any ice build up but nope coils were all solid without any ice buildup.

    • @harrisfogel1697
      @harrisfogel1697 Před 2 lety +2

      @@MCLIFE786 yes, but did you do a full defrost? For example, my coils were clean, but the system still froze things. once I thawed it out, it worked fine. Same heater, same sensors, the difference was the thaw. There are passages for air that freeze up. So, the coils aren't the full story. You need to do a full defrost. We found we could keep things cold in the refrigerator section with the door closed, with only the freezer door open for the defrost. Most of the stuff in the refrigerator section, kept pretty cold. We put the freezer stuff in insulated bags.

Having replace the damper, I realized the fridge side is freezing freezing my drinks and vegetables. Do you think this could be a problem from the temperature sensor?

I noticed on the control board, that one of the large capacitors is bulging and the evaporator resister was burnt. Can I replace the evaporator resister or do I need a new control board? Check on top the refrigerator.. there should be a removable compartment and a sensor should be inside (that's for the defrost system) ..
      There should be another sensor behind the interior plastic liner that needs to come out in order for you to gain access to the fridge sensor...
      There's another sensor attached to the evaporator coils inside the freezer compartment..

    So I opened the inside cover to the freezer to expose the coils just as you did. The coils were all iced up. So after the coils thawed I noticed the temperature sensor wasn't even clipped onto the coil. I wonder if the ice build up pushed it off or if it simply fell off during a move. The reason I say fell off is because the clip that holds the sensor does not clip onto the coil. Its a very lose fit. I bent the clip a little and that did not help. So I wedged a tiny piece of card board against the foiled back plate so the sensor wouldn't touch the back wall. The censor is now on the coil. I will see what happens over the next few weeks. The freezer back wall was frosting up every two weeks. This is my 2nd time defrosting the freezer in a 1 month period.. I did not notice the sensor hanging off the coil the last time I defrosted my GE Profile Artica fridge freezer. So I hope this fixes the issue.
    My thermostat doesn't appear to be bulging. So I don't believe frost has got down inside of the housing of the thermostat. In fact it looks pretty new. I can tell the freezer wall was taken apart before due to the missing paint on the screws. I bought this fridge freezer off someone 1.5 yrs ago.
    I really need to learn how my multi meter works so I can test the defroster heater, thermostat, and the temp sensor.
    Or I just go with plan B and replace all three parts and be done with it, hopefully!!
    Anyone have any helpful hints or tips with my issue, I sure would love some more knowledge with trouble shooting these items and more!
