Pro Tip: Apply the tape, but only expose the other side of the tape on the stripe at the top of the window. Apply the top first. Then slowly peel one side as you apply it. Then do it to the other side. Last the bottom. Goes on WAY better without it sticking to a stripe before you're ready.

they should include your tip in their instructions and pay you for this info. The film wants to stick to everything & I could not get it even and tight till I followed your instructions. It's made in the USA, I'm surprised. I thought it was another product from overseas with a copywriter who was not English speaking

After affixing the plastic along the top, cut in the middle of the 'down tape', pulling it up half way and pressing in the plastic as you go, then the other side in similar fashion...Back to the bottom half on both sides until you are at the bottom window sill. Slice in the middle of the bottom tape and start in one corner pulling taughtly to the other corner for a tight fit. **Let sit for 30 Mins so that the tape will become accustomed to adhering to the wall.. Then use the heat gun....

This works 100% and it's super easy to install, I don't have a hair dryer, so I used my space heater.

This worked great for me! I had to cover the window because the cold air was wilting my plants! Not any more!

I'm sealing up my son's air conditioner because we don't use it and all this air gets out. It's rediculous. Thanks for your video. You made it look so easy.

Will the tape come off the window in the spring?

    • @sapher2020
      @sapher2020 Před 2 lety +2

It will but it might take up some paint from the trim with it. Had repaint a few of mine last Spring.

I would use the hair dryer on the tape before taking the tape off. It might make it easier to remove.

Use a razor blade type gasket scraper. Gently. And I’d recommend lightly wiping the window sill down mineral spirits, and wiping it dry, before using the tape. This way it cleans the surface and is less likely to rip the paint up with it when you pull it off.

Does this help with doors too? I have a patio door through which air leaks during winters

Yes, they make a door size one for this. As long as you don’t need access to the door, I think it should work.

"blow dry starting at the top" but just around the edges, or across the whole window? Neither video shows or tells.

you blow dry the whole window film. you'll see the film change and become taut as you do and any small ripples in the surface will smooth out. when you're done if you tap it the whole thing feels like if you tapped on the surface of a filled balloon and it's completely see-through.

It says "...from the top down..." at 00:48 seconds. That would be... The entire window! 😂😂😂

There’s no outside installation video and I failed. I ripped it all off and cursed it. I’d love to see an official video or are you also aware of how difficult it is and it looks like poo.

This video ignores the most frustrating and time consuming part of the process.
I love using the Frost King insulation kits, BUT . . . I spend more time trying to separate and getting a starter piece to the backer tape than everything else. Once you put up the tape (sans a backer starter) how do you get a piece of the backer to remove?
My experience is that you need to have a starter on the backer or else the tape comes right off the wall. Wasted tape and frustration. So, in order to do this, I cant wait 15 minutes for the tape, to adhere to the wall. I have to remove the backer, then cut the tape to get a starter piece. If I mess up, I spend (without exaggeration) an extremely long time trying to creat a new starter piece.
What am I doing wrong? It should be as easy as displayed, but after more than a decade of using these kits, I've not found a better solution. Someone, please tell me how to do this. It might cut my installation time by 1/3 or more.

Check out the comments under the other (longer) video for this product. People are having a lot of issues with the tape. I'm about to try it for the first time... wish me luck! If all else fails, I'll just use some other kind of tape, even if it's not double sided.

Don't buy Frost King. It's cloudy and the creases don't come out after using blow dryer! The tape isn't very sticky, either.
