- The Sovereign class was the crowning achievement of the 2370 Starship design and incorporated numerous technologies of the era from bio-neural gelpacks to quantum torpedoes. The Federation's most advanced vessel and the line numbers the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E among its lineage.

love that ship so much. a shame that it only appeared in three star trek movies. the fights against the borg cube and the Scimitar were SO EPIC. the crew on the enterprise e was so relaxed as if the borg cube was no threat AT ALL against the Sovereign class.
The Borg Cube barely touched the Sovereign. It's weapons was like a gentle breeze against its shields.
Sovereign was easily the sexiest of ALL Enterprise variants bar none ...definitely never get sick of looking at that beauty
You put the crew with the most experience fighting the borg in one of the most advanced ships Starfleet has ever designed, and that cube never had a chance.
They knew they had the benefit of plot armor.
My favorite ship design of all time
Ugh, SUCH a beautiful ship.
I don't care that we've moved on to Inquiry/Sagan/Ross/whatever, I want more of the Sovereign, even if in a miniseries or TV movie.
YES. She’s drop-dead gorgeous and I wish we could see more of her. I was sad we didn’t see one or two Sovereign classes during the Dominion War in DS9 after FC came out
Meanwhile us Odyssey class fans who get less than an episode of screentime before decommission
I love the Enterprise-E.
So did Worf, more so then the Enterprise D. To bad he somehow managed to destroy the Enterprise E
Me too. Ever since watching First Contact as a kid I was in love lol
The Sovvy is hands down one of my favorite ships.
Same
The Sovereigns a great ship not just since she was a Enterprise but in design.
1 großartiges Schiff vong Design her
Always found it sad that there were never any Sovereign Class ships included in the battles on DS9, alongside the ships introduced in First Contact, and a few more Defiant classes. Would have been nice to see the Enterprise drop in during the final battle, fighting along the Defiant, with even just Picard's voice being heard giving a brief hello. Would have also been nice to have the Enterprise be one of the ships on the final scene of Voyager, to greet the crew on their return, in order to complete the cycle started in TNG.
Sadly the producers didn’t trust audiences not to get confused about whether it was the Enterprise… they only allowed other Galaxy-classes to appear on DS9 after TNG ended for similar reasons.
But that didn’t apply going the other way - Defiants show up in Voyager and there’s an Intrepid in DS9. They only cared about the “flagship” series (no irony intended, but that is how they’re called!)
I think it works out better to not see Sovereigns in the big fights. The Sovereign is Starfleet's expensive, rapid response ship. They would be zipping around preventing incursions and rescuing attacked outposts, it wouldn't make sense to throw them into the meat grinder that was the frontline during most of the Dominion War.
That being said, I do wish we had hear about a Sovereign routing an attempted attack or two, even in passing.
The Akira class did appear in Voyager's Message in a Bottle episode.
Perhaps their construction takes *so* long that, by the time significant numbers of Sovereigns were ready for service, the Dominion War had ended?
@@vic5015 That would make no sense, considering how many Galaxy-Class starships have been showing up in battle, along with how they always have plenty of ship classes that have been around since Kirk's era.
The Sovereign is a perfect successor to the Excelsior.
The first design from starfleet that I instantly fell in love with this! The ultimate ship and my favorite in STO
Sovereign, Akira, Intrepid, Prometheus, and Galaxy are my favorite Starfleet ships (yes I know many people don’t like Prometheus bc it’s OP and kinda silly lol), but Sovereign is definitely at the top of that list
The most beautiful ship ever built in Starfleet.
How can you be so mistaken, the Intrepid is obviously on top.
@@crashmatrix Ha! I beg to differ. You obviously need your vision checked. I will send Dr. Crusher over to see you ASAP. :P
@@Malkiore1 Dr. Crusher is not available as she is in one of the rec. rooms with Cmdr. Troy(i mean Riker.....or is it Troy-Riker) helping each other in their kegel exercises.
Facts
If not the most, at least one of the most beautiful designs.
The Sovereign is my favourite, a beautifully sleek design that calls right back to the classic Connie at the exact same time it boasts the most advanced tech and arms in the fleet. I'd have loved to see more of the _E_ , and am glad that in the original _Countdown_ comics, command of the _E_ was given to Data. And that he used it then to try to help the Romulans.
Most gorgeous ship in Sci-Fi to me
The Sovereign's name was also symbolic to a certain degree, as it was launched prior to the dominion war when the federation's sovereignty was put into question.
Fell in love with the Sovereign class immediately.
I was 13 when me & mate bunked off school to go see First Contact on opening day at the cinema, Friday 13th December, 1996.
the sovereign class after first contact was refited with 16 class XII phasers. the sovereign class became a beast after it refit
I was wondering about that - I had thought it bumped up to the type twelves... That plus all the torpedo tubes made this ship a one vessel armada!
Defiant is just an escort. Sovereign fighting a Prometheus would be quite the throwdown though.
My favorite starship design in Star Trek. It’s just so damn gorgeous
The most beautiful ship I've ever seen in star trek and my favorite design 😊😊😊😊
1. Enterprise refit. 2. Excelsior. 3.... *this ship* Love the design so much, the Guppy shuttle backplate is such a great call back.
"When one of these entered the system, it was a symbol that Starfleet meant business...." I just love it and I love this ship. Thank you very much for the wonderful review. Nicely done.
The tops of the warp engines remind me of those oh-so-delicate fluorescent tube lights you see in offices but I love the Sovereign anyway.
Always fun to imagine how well a vessel like the Sovereign class would have done if it would have been the ship trapped in the Delta Quadrant, rather than the Intrepid class.
Sounds like an interesting writing challenge. I could totally see the Federation basically not noticing Chakotay's Maquis cell for a year longer than the original timeline. Instead of Tuvok being the chose double agent, you could have Lt. Hawk going undercover; they're the same rank, and it'd give a chance to make Hawk more of...well, more of a character than he was in First Contact, lol. Imagine how hard Chakotay and crew would brick it when they realize they're face-to-face with the god damned ENTERPRISE.
Plus, it'd be neat to see the Enterprise crew handle the Delta Quadrant weirdness. Maybe even have Voyager be the one that takes on what all happens in First Contact.
@@Hagunemnon E-E might be too large and too advanced for the long-distance adventure in that IF it got damaged it will be harder to find big enough dock or spare parts. Of course being as well-armed and speedy as it is it will have a much lower chance of being damaged in the first place
Just imagine how Picard would have taken on the Borg if they were the ones in the delta quadrant. How would his trauma influence his decision making when they first encounter species 8472 ripping Borg cubes to shreds
@@songyani3992 There's also the vital question of whether the Sovereign came equipped with onboard production facilities for nearly infinite numbers of torpedoes and shuttles the way the Voyager was. :)
@@richmcgee434 those were called replikators, and they are pretty standard on most ships,so good chances the enterprise had some. imagine the cargospace they would need for all the earl grey supplies,if not.
The Van Citters warping in to help the Cerritos deal with the Texas class is one of the coolest moments of LD imo.
Both Galaxy and Sovereign are iconic and beautiful designs. They don't make it like that anymore, sadly. Nothing ever since appealed to me.
When I played Star Trek Bridge commander I was so excited when I got to captain the USS Sovereign. I only accidentally bumped into one cloaked ship while commanding her.
This may be my favorite ship design in pure aesthetic. It just looks so awesome.
I think you can also add that the sleeker design makes the ship a smaller target when attacking head on or when being engaged from behind. This opens up strategic placement of additional armor or weapons.
Hands down my favourite Star Trek ship. It deserved much more screen time than just three movies.
The Sovereign is my favorite SciFi ship design across all franchises.
No other design conveys strength and speed like it.
Besides the many Connie’s and the Intrepid this is my favorite canon Starfleet design. Sleek and beautiful while still non verbally communicating “fuck around and find out.”
I love the Sovereign Class
My favourite class of starship
Enterprise-F Refit: Let me introduce myself
I hope the Pathfinder class is next
Enterprise-G is the most powerful 8n the fleet. Check the bridage commander mods. Balance everything the ship is extremely realiable. I was able to do about four or five patrols before I was completely destroyed by a Cardassian fleet of 5 ships
The Sovereign will ALWAYS be my favorite class of starship in Star Trek.
I would love to see an introduction guide to STO someday from you. Your way of telling stories and humor would make for a very interesting video!
Thank you Rick big-time!
I loved this ship in Star Trek Bridge Commander.
Needs a part 2 for its indepth lore history. Good video! As per usual!
Agreed. Given that we're marking time until game play can resume, I can't think of many better ways to do it.
@@markfergerson2145 I have no doubt about that, even if there isn't a part 2, as I have been a fan of Certified Ingame's channel (and his humor) for ~ 3 years now! It' gives this old man a chance to see games, where I love them, but I no longer play them (some friends at my age do, but I don't see how they make the time for it)....
@@carnifexor3010 I don't play either despite being retired and having plenty of time.
For me watching playthroughs executed and narrated by CI lets me enjoy a side of Trek I never would access otherwise.
It's his narration and exploration of lore and how it compares with canon that I enjoy mostly. Hence my willingness to watch these "placeholder" videos. IMO they're better than serious dedicated similar videos by many other CZcamsrs.
@@markfergerson2145 I'm in the same boat, retired for medical reasons shortly before 37, now 43!. I couldn't agree with you more about the channel. It allows me to stave off bordom, and I do enjoy the funny of CertifiedIG. I very much will continue staying tuned and watching this space.
Those clips with the blue deflector just confirm what I’ve always thought, it looks so much better then the yellow
I like the galaxy-x from all good things. This ship is cool as well.
Wish the Sovereign Class would make a cameo appearance in Lower Decks.
Spoiler alert ⚠️
It has at least twice.
I just love the name of the class and can't wait until there is such another brilliant name for a starship in the future
Always reminded me of the Enterprise A a exploring battle ship armed tough for any encounter but can hold diplomatic meetings and great sensors
The Sovereigns, Voyager and USS Rhode Island (Nova class) are my favorite ships.....ok the Defiant too ;)
In my imagination, the federation ofter used the Intrepid class for first contact mission over the Sovereigns, so they would not look to dominant to the new race :)
I personaly would love a show with a upgraded Saber class ship playing inside federation space and often teaming up with other ships to overcome danger :)
Sovereign has Type-12 phaser arrays, not Type-10 like the Galaxy
Lol, the Defiant vs. the Sovereign wouldn’t be much of a fight. All due respect to the Defiant class, cause it’s a badass starship, it just wouldn’t be able to keep up with the best of the best of Federation tech. The Sovereign is in a league of its own. It’s the flagship for a reason.
One of the most beautiful ships in Star Trek 😍😍
My favorite ship of all time!
And with this, you've covered all three of my all-time favorite canon Starfleet ships. The Sovereign, the Akira, and the Luna. What a trio, the most powerful, the most beautiful, I'd even say some of the best all around ships in the entire armada.
The Sovereign is the first Star Trek ship I truly fell in love with. I remember seeing that gorgeous silhouette in First Contact and just wanting to see more of that ship, no matter what.
The sovereign: The Crowning Jewel of Starfleet, the Akira, starfleet's torpedo launcher on impulse engine, and the Luna: their finest science vessel since Voyager.
It would take an attack wing of defiant class ships to defeat the sovereign class. But since that the original design plan of the defiant class, that would be fun. So the question isn't can the defiant win, it is how many defiants would it take to win, and how many would it take to win without loosing a ship.
There's also the question of how many Defiants you can afford to build and crew compared to a single Sovereign. Crew casualties and ship losses among Defiants are likely to be much higher than a among Sovereigns, but those little gunboats can be many places at once while the multirole super-cruiser (fast as it is) would struggle to cover multiple hotspots. There's sound reasons to build both types of ships in a balanced fleet.
@@richmcgee434 Agreed, and image a formation of one Sovereign and 5 Defiants. I would auto-surrender against that.
@@Omniroc The return of the Battlegroup concept from WWII.
The Defiant has incredible firepower, but the type 12 phasers of the Sovereign, coupled with a vastly larger energy reserve and shields that make the Defiants defenses look paltry... Not to mention the Sovereign could absolutely dictate the terms of engagement with its absurd warp speed.
Lol, the Batesman thing always made me scratch my head. It would be like putting a 19th century coal-fired steamer battleship captain in charge of an Iowa Class Battleship. Yeah, he can handle it, but he has no problem with letting the ship go to a captain like Picard - both older and younger than him thanks to time travel shenanigans.
More like a 1945 captain put in charge of ship launched in the 2010s. He knows about radar, AA and rockets but they're all far more capable. You're acting like Batesman, wouldn't know what warp, phasers and Federation policy are. There are still Miranda class ships in service when he returns to starfleet.
Most Starfleet capital ships, Galaxy, Nebula, Sovereign, Odyssey, etc. are big enough to easily accommodate 10,000 or vastly more people. The problem comes in whether or not the life support systems can accommodate that many people breathing, generating body heat, and so on. Such an issue may not even be one of available power. But simply how fast can the ship cycle used air, and assimilate excess heat, which can be used as, if limited, source of power itself. This would require actual material hardware upgrades. But for the most part, if the ship has the wherewithal to have at least minimal life support throughout the entire ship, it should be able to handle life support for 10,000+ officers and crew quite readily and easily.
Don't forget it would only hold that many people for a short time, until they reached the nearest Starbase, or even a class M planet where they could unload until other ships came to take the people.
Best starship design ever!
I FINALLY got one in STO. It's been a dream ship of mine ever since I started playing last year.
Love this series! Please never discontinue this.
Sovereign Class-Slick, sweet and sophisticated.
Love this ship! Thank you for these insights!
My favorite Starfleet ship class.
Wow great video on the awesome Sovereign Class! I must say this is my overall most favorite of the Trek ships!!
How can you not love this awesome ship??
Easily my favorite ship design! Akira is nice too, but Sovereign is, well, sovereign :D
The Guys from Generation Tech and Generation Films have Made Technical Briefs about all The Flaws about Enterprise Designs...
Great ship. It grew on me over time. Also am a fan of the Excelsior class. Thanks for the video. Live long and prosper. 🖖🏾
Another great video 📷
Rick, the quality of this upload is nothing less than exceptional but I’ve come to expect nothing less from your channel.
I love the Sovereign class; no one has done a better job presenting it. Thank you 🙏🏻
This is my favorite Enterprise.
One of my favorit ships in all of Sify!
The presentation of this class and its abilities, I got the impression it had a glass jaw.
Been waiting for this!!!
The Sovereign class is my favorite Star Trek ship. The Enterprise E was Juggernaut, she definitely gave the Borg a run for their money.
I would call this class a battleship.
Sovereign vs Sovereign, I can definatley dig that!
My favorite starship.
Very well done. Looking forward to hearing more about other ships, and maybe even some notable non Federation designs like the D'Deridex and Vor'cha.
Great vid! I would love to see more of these. One ship I've always wanted to learn more about was the Achilles class
Great video about a beautiful ship I loved it
I was waiting for this video. The Sovereign is my favorite Starfleet ship *EVER*. I remember watching First Contact when I was younger and I instantly fell in love with the Sovereign. When one of the people I knew said I could fly one in Star Trek Online, I immediately decided that would be my main ship for a while until I got better ships and gear.
Probably the coolest and most streamlined.
Your comment about Defiant vs Sovereign made me wonder how the DS9 2 parter Homefront/Paradise Lost would have went if instead of an Excelsior class ship, the Defiant fought a Sovereign.
That probably wouldn't have ended well for the Defiant. Most likely and preferably the Sovereign would have knocked out it's engines and weapons in just a few hits. We're talking one big beast of a ship vs a tough little ship. The beast wins every time.
That would have forced the Defiant to sneak by under cloak since trying to fight would have been suicide.
Such a beautiful ship. Basically a fast battleship lol
The Sovereign Class My favourite starship class
That rotation made me laugh so hard!
Type-12 phaser arrays, thank you. Not 10.
A beautiful design and very iconic despite not featuring in a series of its own, up there with the Galaxy and original Constitution.
Such a gorgeous ship.
I was angry when they destroyed the Enterprise-D... until I found the E's specs after watching First Contact. The D still could have been retired, but Picard got a nice upgrade in the process.
While I do enjoy the lore videos, I would very much appreciate a return to the Star Trek Online story arc as it is the only Star Trek content that I look forward to each week, hope you had a pleasant summer. Thanx Rick.
Defiant vs. Sovereign... I like it.
YEESSSS
I would really like for the Sovereign become the "new Excelsior" in the 25th century
Like the Excelsior was in the 24th century an older but still very useful class
movie 2: "There are twenty-four decks."
movie 4: "There are intruders on deck twenty-nine!"
movie 2 security to movie 4: "Well I guess we don't need to worry about them, then."
I love this ship scotty made this class
Sovereign is a masterpiece of design keeping true to starfleet but also you KNEW it was a capable warship if needed, thing went through opponents like a hot knife through butter and I wish it had more onscreen appearances
Sleek, sexy, like a designer car but at the same time deadly efficient and ruthless like any good battle cruiser should be.
Beautiful and deadly.
The damage to subspace was actually caused by weapons used in the Q civil war.
She IS a beautiful ship and one to be respected. I wouldn't ever want to get on her bad side.
The Sov is the *SR-71* of Star Trek. You see it on a video, you click it.
Sovereign is my favorite
Love the raspberry blooper
7:10 "defiant vs sovereign" - I'm still waiting for that. :D
top 3 favorite ships that carry the name enterprise
It's a crima against humanity that we didn't see more of this ship
Without a doubt, the best, fastest, strongest, and most beautiful if not downright sexy starship to ever exist. She sure deserves the name Sovereign.
