Back in 1967 when I started elementary out teacher talks to us in English. It is fair to say it is our first language in school. When I graduated from college in 1980 all my job interviews were in English as well. English is also the Philippine’s 1st language in business . We use to be the third largest English speakers in the world.
Philippines is the best for enjoying the beaches in 7k plus islands... hospitality and very friendly peoples.❤❤❤
Philippines 🇵🇭. I agree 👍 on a high rank. I traveled to and from there for 25+ years. ✈
You must be a sad white guy couldn't stay put in his own country.

Now that sounds like a thorough, validated research, doesn’t it?

Ha ha ha & Philippines is expert in making "buko pie ' Filipino delicacy made of coconut meat ,for your information ,the coastal regions are surrounded by coconut trees
I retired to the Philippines and it's also important you have access to malls, banks and the immigration office. The Philippines is the only place in Asai that has a VA Hospital for veterans and a Social security office all in Manila.
VA?

Glad to hear retirement in the Philippines works well as I plan to do the same. Yes, VA is in Manila. Don’t forget the presence of US military bases in the 60’s up to the 80’s. Your dollar goes a long way considering inflation and interest rates are on the rise. There’s no better than quality of living. Philippines top this so far. I add my total endorsement to this post as it is totally correct.

If you have limited retirement money don’t live in Metropolitan Manila but venture into provinces.

I want to make a bit of correction of facts regarding philippines....you said 14 million filipinos can speak english and out of the total population, that accounts to only about 12%....actually, 47% of filipinos can speak fluent english with great diction and enunciation....but in totally, 95% can actually speak it even in a broken non-fluent way you can still somehow understand it...and to those who cant almost totally cant speak speak it have at least an inkling of what you're saying. This is because english is the medium of instruction in this country more than filipino or tagalog language.
and Filipinos love to watch English language movies from US, UK and others. Filipinos are culturally comfortable with western cultures as well.
From kindergarten to university.... We speak English inside the classroom.

Greetings from Redondo Beach CA USA 🇺🇸. Philippines should be ranked #1 because it is much safer to travel here than any other countries listed. Filipinos are known for their hospitality specially in the provinces. Visit Makati, GBC, and Mall of Asia not to mention the beaches in La Union province. Mabuhay!
Rubbish. Cyprus is also very safe. I experience zero crime in 19 years.
Cyprus is definitely safer
Philippines is safe? Are you kidding? Maybe in presidential palace. It's a place where cops are kidnappers. So you have to pay them to not to become one in advance.
A typical kulang sa pansin Filipino. Always wants to be in the limelight.

Yup, Philippines it is, the best to retire, near beach for tourist be it fishing as income, it's mountains & forest, as retiree, having farm as a hobby or just a small money income. Philippine soil is so fertile due to volcanic ash. Philippines is the only diverse country in asia, from religion, food be it "halal" or "pork lechon", variety of taste & dish you look for you shall find, various tradition, it is not controlled by any religous law and it is the most democratic asian country you ever find. People are authentic & really smile thru their heart, they are a community w/c is real helpfull & warm to anybody, and of course it does not mean it is also free from local scam & bad people, but majority of good filipino people would already sure warn you for that. Very helpful to know about best English speaking countries for retirement planning
By all comparison, and by all rankings, the Philippines is apparently the Best Best Best among all the rest that the article have mentioned... If your point of deliberation is anchored on the English language, the Philippines stand highly above all the rest. The Philippines 🇵🇭 has a population of more than 114 Million people as of 2021, and is projected to be about 150 million by 2050. That could placed the Philippines in the 11th or 12th ranking as the most populous country in the world 🌎. By that alone, the literary rate of the Philippines is 96.6% as of October 2023, making it one of the most literate countries in the world. In 2021, the Philippines literacy rate was 99.27%. Education in the Philippines is free for all Filipino people all the way to college, on a bachelor's degree. Advanced studies and graduate school have very minimal costs... English is widely used anywhere and everywhere even in small remote islands. Their kind of English is even much much better than most ordinary Americans do. Their English is grammar-based with correct spelling, proper punctuation, and easily comprehensible. Thus , they refrain from using colloquial words such as wanna, gonna, gotta, ain't, betcha, or y'all which are actually ungrammatical... Do I need to say more? This explains the fact that millions upon millions of high-quality and well-educated Filipino professionals, such as nurses, teachers, CPAs, engineers, seamen and maritime engineers, and other medical professionals, are in-demand all over the world. Noteworthy of mention is that 10-12% of the Filipinos are scattered all over the world in more than 250 countries as useful citizens of the community.. Such feat, where only few countries can ever lay claim to. The Filipino diaspora has made the Philippines 🇵🇭 more vibrant, more diverse, more liberally exposed , and more welcoming and accommodating thereby further concreting the worldwide Filipino traits of great hospitality, very hospitable and friendly. (TO be continued)
Of all the countries ,the Philippines is the most beautiful when it comes to nature, culture and peoples habit..I'm proud Filipino
The best Philippines..
Wow Philippines is 3rd Runk , proud Filipino

ok sana. edit mo lang un 'rank'
The Philippines without a doubt is a good choice for English-speaking foreigners to retire to. Filipinos learned English from Kindergarten to college. Every textbook is written in English except the textbook for Tagalog language. It's nice to be considered 3rd best place but it could do better like being the 1st choice. Sadly, the cost of living in the Philippines could be much lower if the government isn't corrupt. In fact, the current President is called a USB (thumb drive) President by the locals. Even the international election observers issued a report stating the election was full of irregularities. If President Benigno S. Aquino III was replaced by an equally competent Filipino like Mar Roxas (who lost the election) in 2016, who could have continued the progress that Aquino started, today, the country would have a vibrant economy and low cost of living.
Correction : Aquino III was replaced by du30 and Philippines has improved tremendously .
I lived in Asia for most of my adult life. When I was younger Thailand and the Philippines were by far the best places to visit.
But when I retired (early), I chose Malaysia. I was planning in starting a family - and it was clear it was a much better place for a family than Thailand or Philippines. That said, I do love traveling in the Philippines.
The other note is that Malaysia is CHEAPER that the Philippines - especially if you want something decent. In the Philippines, anything decent is expensive. For sure, you can live in either country on $500 and enjoy yourself.
Working in Malaysia for 3 years now. As expat. I disagree that it's CHEAPER.

- Mount Kinabalu - highest mountain in SEA
-multi-cultural (many races : Malays, Chinese, Indians, numerous native tribes among others)
-food paradise
-relatively low cost of living
-strategic location (can easily travel to nearby countries such as Thailand, Singapore and so on)

Malaysia should return Sabah to the Philippines.
Sorry for injecting this topic, but I hope most Malaysian should be aware of the Sabah issue. Before Malaysia even was declared a country made up by the British, they had rented Sabah. Respectfully Malaysia and the international community should acknowldge Sabah didn' happened to be part of Malaysia as it was only on lease agreement from the Sulu family in the Philippines. Sabah should be returned to the Philippine domain.

Considering retiring abroad for the language? This video's a gem. Any personal recommendations for English-speaking countries to live in or visit?
Jamaica is an extremely expensive country. You need at least US$1,700 per month assuming you're not paying rent or mortgage. This amount will only cover food, utilities, transportation and basic medicine assuming you have a non-contributory medical policy. There are price increases very often. The dollar fluctuates a lot. With this amount you can't go to fancy restaurants or buy fancy food. So which Jamaica are you referring to?
The Jamaica 🇯🇲 in the caribbean if you own your house fully paid for you can lived off 500 to 700 US dollars per month.
The Filipinos speak very good English. It is our second language. English, Science, Mathematics and other major subjects are taught in English.
The title should have stated: Best English speaking countries to retire for Americans. As that is clearly the focus here. And as for low cost retirement in malaysia, that is no longer the case with the so called MM2H programme. The minimum requirement is a monthly income of US$ 8,000 per month.
Wow, some of these rankings were unexpected! I've lived in a couple of the states listed and have different opinions based on my experiences. Does anyone else feel the same?
MUCH CHEAPER IN PHILIPPINES THAN ANY NATIONS AND VERY RICH NATION.
Some topics not covered: How much required annual income? Insurance for healthcare? Requirements to purchase property? Median rent for apartments? How much for housekeeping services? Is there good public transportation? What facilities for people with physical challenges? A decent retirement requires more than nice beaches. What does $1000. a month cover?

I'm a Native Filipino here and I think that the main reason as to why the Philippines is being recognized as an English-Speaking Country (even though not all filipinos can speak the language very fluently) is because the Philippines became an American Colony for such a long time after the Spaniard Colonization and that the Americans brought the English Language to the Country along with their culture, foods, holidays, festivals, clothing brands, car brands, etc. which means to say that the country is pretty much heavily influenced by Western American & European Spanish Cultures even until today that English is still one of the most widely -spoken languages of the Philippines along with Spanish (Chavacano) being the second national language of the Southern Part of the Country
Philipines has a population of 130 million people, majority of Filipinos speak english because english language is being taught in elementary school, many arevwell educated and literate people, economy is booming, Philippines is now being called the tiger economy, it is not a poor country it is one the rich Asian country because they have all the natural resources that leaders of Philippine should tap in they are rich in oil, gold, pearls, nickel, uranium, most of this minerals e were being exported to otgrvcoubtries. They have a lot of food to ve exported thats why many countries take advantages of their wealth.Philippines is the number 3 english speaking country in the world number 1 is USA and number 2 is Britain.

Want to live on the cheap in a place where everyone speaks English? Then why not just go to Mississippi or West Virginia. The latter has great mountain scenery to boot. You don't have to worry about visas, cultural barriers, crime and corruption, questionable health care, or weird foreign food either.
