  • Show: Double Dare
    Host: Alex Trebek
Production Co: Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions
Two contestants, each in separate isolation booths, attempted to correctly identify a person, place or thing based on one-sentence clues that were given to them, one at a time, on an electronic game board. The first person to win $500 wins the game and plays against the spoilers.
Bouns Game - Beat the Spoilers
Three people with PhD are in an isolation booth trying to guess the mystery subject and the player was required to give four of eight clues to the Spoilers If at least one Spoiler failed to correctly identify the subject after being given the fourth clue, the contestant won $5,000.
The show was created by Jay Wolpert who also was the Producer of "The Price is Right" with Bob Barker, and created game show cult favorites such as Hit Man and Whew!
Jay also wrote the script for the motion picture The Count of Monte Cristo and helped develop the script for first Pirates of the Caribbean film.
After Double Dare ended Alex Trebek would go on host The $128,000 Question and NBC's High Rollers.

Always a treat to see a game show from its original studio master tape.

Same here. Had it been a lesser-known bishop or minister, it would have been a possible give to the Spoilers.

Agreed. Although, upon checking, I'd say Alex was right the first time in not accepting "Mephistopheles". (That said, even if that had been the case thus leaving just the one Spoiler, pretty good chance she'd effectively figured it out no matter what the 4th clue given would have been.)

That theme song was used on Card Sharks

    • @Noveltooner
      @Noveltooner Před 10 lety +2

The theme is actually titled "Double Dare" and was composed by Edd Kalehoff. Interestingly, he also composed the theme for Nickelodeon's "Double Dare" as well as the second "Card Sharks" theme for the CBS version. Goodson-Todman pretty much recycled the opening of the original "Double Dare" for the NBC run of "Card Sharks", but used the second half of the "Double Dare" theme which re-states the theme but in a much lower key (G as opposed to C) with a more serious tone. So Kalehoff composed all three themes: "Double Dare/Card Sharks", Nick's "Double Dare", and CBS's "Card Sharks".

He was probably going back and forth in his head, unable to make a sound decision and just went, "Oh, what the hell?" He kind of was like, "Sorry, folks! I know, I know!" when he looked at them. Understand, I'm not being insulting, I'm trying to be accurate; correct.

Alex still got his total wrong after the Spoilers Round was over. He did not have $7750, he had $7700. This was the third match he won and all three matches he earned precisely $500. Here's what his first three matches added up to:
1.) Won match with $500, Won the $5000 by Beating the Spoilers getting John D. Rockefeller past them.
2.) Won match with $500, Did Not Win the $5000 because he couldn't get Gandhi past them, yet still won $600.
3.) Won match with $500, Did Not Win the $5000 because he couldn't get The Devil past them, yet still won $600.
    So $5500 + $1100 + $1100 = $7700.
