      My order just turned up and I find that I was sent the Gateway Max but I thought I had ordered the Cloud Gateway Max. Very ordinary product labelling. Hopefully the retailer will take it back otherwise Ive just replaced my USG with a Gateway Max and still need my CloudKey Gen 2+.

    I bought it and love it. It’s in a remote location and it connects to my dream machine via VPN. The fact that the software presentation is the same between the Dream Machine and the Cloud Gateway Max makes it so wonderful. Ubiquiti really puts a lot of thought into their hardware and software.

    This is the problem with this company. They have no roadmaps on releases. It is very hard to predict releases. I am on the fence with buying the UDM Pro SE because I have a feeling in few weeks time, they will release a new one. I love UniFi. No matter what you buy you can always be assured there’s always going to be a new model released every few months that will include 1-2 additional upgrades that wouldn’t have made sense to be in one box from the get go. I’m pretty confident that the there’s no way they could make every port 2.5\POE, so it’s not like they’re clipping the products wings so that you’re compelled to buy another 1U box that they were able to figure it out with. I’m not mad at their greed just their short sightedness. Put all of the features in one unit and charge me the total of two boxes. Multi gig internet with 2 6ghz APs and 3-4 cameras isn’t an unheard of use case in 2024, but im sure it’s possible they didn’t notice this short coming. Also I’m sure its just made sense to use an external power supply with their 16 port switch because who wouldn’t want to pay for a extra kit to let it be mounted in the only place it makes sense a server rack.

    I got my UCG Max yesterday - great device overall, but I have 1 complaint. It runs very hot - 75C on idle with just Network enabled.
    One note to people that plan to get the no storage version - I got the upgraded 1TB version and what they sent me was actually the no storage version and the nvme was a separate package. The no storage version does not have the nvme tray - it just has a plug for the hole. The separate package with the drive actually has the tray with the drive, so if someone plans to add storage later has to buy it from Unifi or they will not be able to just plug in a drive in the device.

    First the Gateway Max (UXG-Max) and now the Cloud Gateway Max (UCG-Max) that look identical apart from the screen on the UCG-Max. That's not going to be confusing at all. Not surprised that they released a UCG-Max it was the model missing in the line up spec wise, feel for people who would have waited for the Max if there was a indication that it was coming but went for the Ultra instead. Suspect there'll be a fair few barely used Ultra's going on eBay etc soon.

    @technerd9655 Před měsícem

    I think this is a great addition to the UniFi product line. I just don't understand the differentiation between the UCG-Mac-NS (no storage) and the Gateway Max UCG-Max. They same like they are virtually identical other than the UCG-Max has the controller built in and NVR storage, but the UCG-Max-NS is not only $2 CAD cheaper than the UXG-Max, it also offers far more value, unless you need to run a separate controller. I don't get the pricing for these two. Otherwise, I think this pretty much a perfect 2.5Gbps router for the lower end of the UniFi line up. Hopefully we get a UDR replacement based on this hardware and either a Wifi 6E or Wifi 7 AP built in and 2 PoE+ ports with. Hopefully 5Gbps NBaseT models will come out in a couple years too. In the mean time we need more 2.5Gbps UniFi switches to complement these 2.5Gbps routers.

    If I understand correctly, the 1G ports of the Ultra are the bottleneck in terms of IPS/IDS throughput... basically, the Ultra should have been 2.5 for the remaining lan ports as well .... what a fail product then ….

    • @william.8845
      @william.8845 Před měsícem

      Ultra should be called plus and max should be called pro, the 1g wan 1g lan gateway device should be called a lite.

    "I probably wouldn't want to have animals recording..."
    The pet industry is insanely large and people spend more on their pets than people do on Ubiquiti gear. I can guarantee somewhere out there someone buys a full Unifi setup just so they can watch their pets at home and get alerts if they enter areas of the house they aren't supposed to.

    Why can’t they make one LAN port PoE AF? Odds are at least one AP will be connected to this thing given that it has no AP built-in. I guess they don’t want this to cannibalize the Dream Router market.

      I would say so. Although the UDR has two poe ports and this does not

    • @kelemvor3333
      @kelemvor3333 Před měsícem

      @@MactelecomNetworks I wish this was available a couple months ago. My UDR died and since they were out of stock, UI offered me two choice for a replacement. 1) A UCG Ultra + U6Mesh. Almost took it, but the UCG doesn't support Protect so I had to pass. 2) A UDM SE. Only issue with this is it has no Wifi so I also had to go buy a WAP. It's overkill for what I need, but this little guy looks like it would have been perfect since it runs everything.
