  • In 2012, Chelsea were playing the worst football that they had played ever since Roman Abramovich swooped in and bought the club.
Despite this, somehow, they managed to win the most prestigious club competition there is and shock the world while they did it.
Today we look back at how it all happened. The lead up, the main event and the aftermath.

Mourinho should be given credit to the foundation he did at clubs.
This was the final touch of mourinho's work just like Ancelotti's madrid team that won the CL in 2014 was the final result of mourinho's Fondation from 2010 to 2013
Also the Chelsea team that won the league Under Conte was based on the ideology of Mourinho's PL win 2 years prior.

Yeah Mourinho instills the discipline and the winning mentality within the squads he goes to, that's why even though they may not get success straight away, they eventually get it a few years later. The Madrid and Chelsea examples are brilliant because the season after Mourinho left in both instances they were in the CL final.

In Madrids case, Mourinho struggled a lot with german sides during his time there, Ancelotti changed the mentality i'd say and they consistently beat german sides after that, though Mourinho built the team.

It's hard to explain the depth of feeling everyone involved with the club had for him in those brief few months. He became a hero, was adored by all. As well as Ancelotti did, he's the big 'what if' from that era.
I wonder if there's moments when he looks at the engraved watch the players bought him & thinks to himself did I make a mistake? Cos his career withered away immediately after this, we could've been that last swansong job that really cemented his legacy as the great manager he undoubtedly was.

Far from it, Chelsea finished 3rd in their group on 10 points, level with Shaktar Doneskt. They had a +6 goal difference compared to Shaktar's +4. The only reason why Chelsea didn't progress to the next round is because of the superior head-to-jead record for Shaktar (as they scored more away goals against Chelsea in the group stages). This meant that Chelsea had to drop down to the Europa League since they finished 3rd and they went on to win the whole thing being defeated only once in 9 games en route to beating Benfica in the 2013 final of the Europa League.

That first CL win was justice for me as a Chelsea fan. The semi against Barca was justice for the previous times as discussed in your video and the final was justice for the shootout loss to Manchester United. I think looking back we maybe didn’t deserve to win that season but considering what had happened in the past seasons in the Champions League maybe we did for that alone.

The final was brutal. Bayern completely dominated them the entire game.
Bayern was probably the most unlucky team during the last ~12 years in the champions league. Yes they won 2 titles, but considering how often they completely crushed top tier teams with 6-8 goals in a single game and often getting knocked out while being the better team was brutal to watch.

At 13:00, Gary Cahill played with David Luiz at CB(Terry got red carded against Barcelona) and Lampard was the captain(I'm sure that the captain order was Terry, Lampard and Drogba in that period)
