"Is Lionel Messi Finished?"

  • No. This is not the end of Lionel Messi.
    It's no secret that he hasn't been fully up to scratch since moving over to PSG. But when you consider the fact that he's been picking up little knocks and injuries since he made the transition, his form makes complete sense.
    Today, I thought it would be fun to turn back the clock and laser in on 10 reasons why Messi is so great and, in a sense, why we he has so much more to give.

    He hasn't kicked off in France yet largely due to tactics, and injuries. The manager has a conundrum of who to play up front. With Argentina he's still on fire, in a system that is well drilled by Scaloni at this stage.

      @@euphoria-1045 " You must protect him on the pitch alongside players who make his job easier for him " - Guardiola on Messi.
      I've never heard of a man paid the highest in a team and who's also treated at a higher stature by putting less effort than other players because " he's good " .
      Contrarily to that , Cr7 doesn't make the team adapt but he adapts to the team's play , allowing for a more natural evolution. In so , the sort of talent of Ronaldo is his ability to be as decisive in any type of league and be as efficient. Now I understand you don't like Cr7 , but the fact that he finds himself to be better than Messi in a worse team playing in a much tougher league , shows a clear quality gap between a player looking for comfortable playstyle and a player looking for challenging transitions that will consequently highlight his singular quality through the team's playstyle.

    It's funny you mention Xavi's assist in Messi's solo goal, cause that's actually a common joke in Argentina with Enrique's assist to Maradona in that one goal. Maradona once said "It's 20% mine 80% his" and Enrique when remembering the goal he said "I receive the ball, turn around, get rid of an english player and then I said "Diego I'm tired, take it and score"

When you talk about goals, crushes everyone with goals per game. Assists? Gets compared to wingers and midfielders. Without him, argentina wouldn´t have won Copa America, Barcelona wouldn´t be in the Champions League this season and Paris wouldn´t have won a couple of games without his playmaking. He´s far from being finished. People talk about how many goals he has this season, without actually watching him play or his matches. So far, it's been looking like the beginning of the end. On the other hand, one should expect that day by day he will adapt etc. In general, all we have to say at the moment is that, for Messi, it's still early days at PSG. Once he plays a number of consecutive starts (and that without injury troubles) we will be able to tell HOW MUCH he has declined -not IF because at the end of the day nobody beats time.. Messi isn't as quick and tireless as he used to be at his 20s, but then again, he is more mature now and he has learned more tricks. Anyway, I say that we will be able to tell if this is the beginning of the end or the beginning of a new adventure a bit later... In January for example. Same thing happened last season: He sky rocketed his form once 2021 came, with Copa America being the cherry on the top.
    I forgot to mention that Messi prolonged his vacation after his Copa America win, and with his contract negotiations going on, he had no pre-season with Barcelona and went straight to PSG. You HAVE TO give him time at least for him to get to the desired fitness levels, before starting to make arguments about his "struggles" for God's sake. I mean it's true that he struggles a bit but perhaps it's worth to take a moment and ask yourself what's the nature of these struggles. (I am addressing the people who criticize too early)

    • @alexciaxa5875
      @alexciaxa5875 Před 2 lety +3

      Exactly, after everything that happened with Copa he wasn't physically and mentally in the mindset for awhile. I'll admit his start at Paris wasn't the best but like you said it's early days. He has 2 years in Paris, only time will tell. Also, PSG basically bought a whole new team so it's not just Messi, this whole team needs to get use to one another. People are only calling him finish because they're comparing his start with Ronaldo's. Man United has more chemistry than PSG despite the many big names.

    You made a common mistake with the goalscoring record. Dixie Dean had the record of 85 goals in a calendar year and he and Muller shared it until Messi broke it and considering that Dixie Dean only played for England a dozen or so times over 15 years makes the record all the more impressive. Also in the 27/28 season he scored 60 goals in 39 appearances for Everton.

He's the greatest of all time, he has the strength of character to continue playing even when in pain, he is selfless and gives to others. What is it about the haters that they should behave like this with him? And even if he were in terminal decline, which is not at all true (you have to watch him play. Anyway, he gets the highest ratings often, 8s), it's cruel to beat him up like this when he's aging and can't help it.

      @@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 There are two types of football fans. There are hose who only go by the numbers, and only count goals, or goals and assists at best. These people are not really football fans. For them it's just about winning. And when a top player doesn't score and win the game, and provide them their instant gratification, they turn on him and destroy him. They forget football players are human. They're not machines. And then, there are those who understand and enjoy the intricacies of the game, the art, the magic, the skill, the passing, the dribbling, the tactical intelligence. Messi haters are cynical winning addicts. They don't really care about football or even the players. They're like spoiled children who demand that all their whims be granted them at whatever cost.
