For someone who suffers severe PTSD this video doesn't even brush the surface of what is going on in our heads. Even for regular PTSD this doesn't cover much, just the basics. I hope you make more videos on this illness but until then I'm grateful this videos was made at all. PTSD needs more recognition as a serious illness which links to many deaths every year and not just another meme or joke.

I developed PTSD after I went to a camp 400 miles away from home and they held me there after my request to leave. I stayed there four days with no friends and no family or familiar faces. I developed ADHD, PTSD, severe anxiety, and severe depression. It has been 3 years since that, and I still will not sleep anywhere but home, I don’t like making plans. I can’t go to public school, and I take medicines to stay happy and they’re not working. Thank you for making this video. It very much describes what myself and many others go through on a daily basis.

We believe I have PTSD from when our house burned down in 2016. It was very traumatic; it was the only house my siblings and I have ever known. I have nightmares of the new house (we rebuilt our house) burning down and i remember clearly walking up the driveway that morning, after getting out of the house to get to our neighboors, walking up the driveway and seeing our house burned up and destroyed. I remember circling the house and sobbing as i realized my home was gone. I still have that fear and will burst out crying randomly at times if i remember. I hate fire drills at school, and I hate it when the fire alarms go off. I have this fear of fire trucks - if i hear one i panic and think its headed to my house. We lost only 2 pets, but one of the pets was my pet snake. I was also the only one injured, i slept on a bunk bed and hit my head on the ceiling fan when my mother came into my room and was screaming "fire!"
Over all i finally admitted and told my parents that I believed that I had PTSD. We're getting therapy help for me and making sure my siblings arent going through the same thing.
Its gotten to the point where im able to deal with the stress mostly. I know that if my house ever burned down again i would be able to get through it. Its thanks for my friends that i am seeking help; especially my girlfriend, who was the first person i told when i had these nightmares.
I think its good for me to remembr the trauma and know that in the end i didnt lose anything. My little sister, my twin brother, my mother, and my father (who was away on a business trip but came back the next day to be with us) all survived. Yeah we lost my snake and my sisters guinea pig. But our 3 dogs and 3 cats (as well as our iguana!) Survived. Im not religious but i do believe that some sort of spirit or entity was there when the tragedy happened.
I will always be greatful of the firemen (and women!) Who rushed in the house to try to save our pets and save other things as well
All in all PTSD it very hard to deal with. Most of the time because people dont want to admit they have it. But once you do admit you have it it becomes so much easier to deal with. If you have a flashback and have admitted to having PTSD, you can use thst knowlege to calm yourself and realize its just a flashback.
This video really touched me so i just had to share my story. I really hope anyone else experiencing PTSD gets all the help, love, and support they deserve. Thank you for reading this far, it really means a lot to me 💜

Omg my story is so similar! My apartment burnt down and it traumatized me and I start having anxiety attacks when fire drills and fire trucks! My dear kitten died in the fire :( but her twin brother survived. We also lost some of my mom's leopard gekos. I had so many things that made me feel so much comfort and happiness and it tore me when I had to watch it all burn away. I breathed in smoke and it hurt my lungs SO much but nobody got injured thank goodness! I also am not religious but I do believe in spirit of nature (wicca) and stuff, and luckily my bearded Dragon survived the fire, while being in the burning building the whole time.
I'm so sorry you got injured and you had to go through that! It's a really bad thing to go through. I'm glad you're okay now! Thank you for sharing your story because I felt so alone with the fire. Have a good day! (Or life in general) 😀😀😀

Once I accidentally fell asleep while heating up a huge pot of oil. I was going to deep fry fish fillets to make tacos. I had a very long day at school and I ended up falling asleep on the couch while I waited for it to heat up. I was home alone with my 2 cats and rabbit when I woke up from a strong smoke smell and thick cloud coming from my kitchen. My stove and fan ventilator were in flames. I panicked and went for a bucket to fill up with water. I didn't know you're not supposed to throw water at burning oil. It made like a mini explosion and the pot dropped to the ground and all the burning oil went everywhere including my legs which I suffered 3rd degree burns. Now the fire got huge and I couldn't see anything and I couldn't breathe and I started to lose my mind trying to find my cats and rabbit. I'm screaming my heart out and meanwhile my neighbors had called 911. I couldn't find my phone and I couldn't leave my pets behind at all! The firefighters arrived which took me by huge surprise and I screamed for them to find my pets and they basically had to drag me out... it was such a horrible experience I felt like I was losing my own life by the thought of losing my pets and home! They put the fire out thank God. My kitchen, kitchen appliances, hallway and half of my living room burned down. I was all covered in black smoke and my lungs were hurting me more than my burns. I saw my cats and rabbit being taken out and they are all white-furred babies and they were black covered in smoke :( luckily no burns on them but I can only imagine the fear they had not being able to breathe or see! I was so upset I caused this incident. I felt so guilty and ashamed! I went to the hospital for my burns and stayed over a week and now live with deep scars on my feet up to my knees... I gained a ton of weight since and have found myself so depressed these past years and I know it started that day. I haven't gone to therapy and I didn't relate this to PTSD yet... I just felt different every day since. I lost myself and I'm thinking it's time to seek therapy. I am so happy you shared this tragic story so similar to mine in terms of the horrific feeling of watching what you love be destroyed in front of you, the pain of a burn, the road to recovery and accepting your skin will never look the way it used to... and of course the fear of experiencing that again. I am going to seek help! 🙏🏼

wow, i wasn't expecting a respectful video about PTSD on youtube.
but yeah just in case anyone comes across this. I have PTSD and other comorbid disorders, but after I started treatment everything got kind of better. I'm living on my own now and I might have a job soon. Medication i'm on made me have less trauma-related nightmares. and somehow, just having less nightmares made me less jumpy, less irritable around people, more comfortable doing things to take care of myself like getting a job, better communication, etc.
so yeah, if you have PTSD try finding a therapist or whatever you think you need. if it doesn't work, go find another therapist because something out there will work.

I don't want to offend you, but it's probably not ptsd because it can only be diagnosed if someone had a very severe trauma, like seeing a person die in a brutal way or experiencing something that makes you fear for your life or is otherwise really threatening to your physical health as well as traumatizing like a horrible accident or abuse. Your experience sure was traumatic but not extremely I guess, so you probably suffer from some kind of anxiety/phobia linked to this experience. It can be just as severe as ptsd but the symptoms are a little bit different. I don't mean to offend you in no way, I just wanted to help! I hope you get better and I wish you all the best :)

I'm really glad you made this video as I've just been diagnosed with PTSD. Mine comes from watching my dad die from cancer (most horrific experience of my life) and watching him suffer from cancer for the past 7 years whilst I was a teenager- meaning I had to grow up very quickly and partially look after him. Mine affects me by giving me inflated responses to stress when I feel helpless which is closely followed by bouts of extreme sadness and grief. It also has made me feel alienated from people my own age, makes me feel tired and old (as best as I can describe it) and has turned me into a workaholic. Started counselling so hopefully will start to make a few steps in the right direction.

Some of the people are definitely being aholes but those who experience the worst of life or have high stress are usually the ones to make dark jokes. Studies have shown the human brain attempts to play down the seriousness of some terrible events to help reduce stress so that it's easier to cope.
Actually dark humor is something Life Noggin should definitely cover one day as it's misunderstood a lot by people.
(Don't get me wrong though, some of the jokes are very aholish and I'm not defending the idiots that are making light of ptsd.)

I'm not disregarding this person's health but Id rather them not use "PTSD" since it seems like this would be a case of severe anxiety like they said before "due to anxiety" I've worked with many people with anxiety disorders and it's common for them to self diagnose issues they don't have.

From somebody who knows how to observe his inner processes and who has suffered PTSD, I can say this is the best explanation yet in short! The world needs more support for civilians with PTSD who have never been to war. Because as you say, people from all walks of life can suffer PTSD. I was still stuck in class with her throughout the year, and they didn’t try very hard to separate us for the rest of my years at that school. I’m so happy to get the hell out of there now. Luckily I have a very kind therapist and I’m getting a formal diagnosis this summer, I’m happy that I can get the help I need. And to anyone who’s in a similar boat I am, whether it’s sexual abuse, or assault, or just PTSD as it is. You are gonna be okay, I promise. Healing takes time but as everyday goes by I feel a little better. You are beautiful, you are handsome, you are strong, you are kind, you are valid, and it’s gonna be okay. I promise. 💖💕

I am getting therapy for it and I'm going to be on anti-depressants.
Also, keep in mind that trauma is a common cause for sleep paralysis, but anxiety is more common. I believe, I was told by my therapist that it's because both trauma and anxiety keep your mind constantly and restlessly in thought.

Thank you for talking about it outside the military! So many people still have this idea that you have to have had something news-story dramatic sort of thing happen to you (war, almost being killed, rape, etc) to get PTSD. I know for a fact that's false. I have PTSD from growing up in a world without any support for Asperger's. I struggled so much as a child and was ignored by medical professionals when I came in for the same symptoms over and over. I even ended up going through a miscarriage trauma that would have been far easier and less traumatic on me had they listened to me in the beginning and not ignored me for 6 weeks until I was admitted to the ER. I can't even think about going to the hospital anymore, due to all the other traumas I had there (including being injected with a medicine I'm allergic to, which they should have known from my files).
I'd love for you to talk about Autism or Aspergers. It'd be nice to get some more awareness out there for it, especially adult Autism.

Alarms would constantly go off on the aircraft carrier and I probably already was a jumpy kid. I really do have it, but it's the PTSD where I startle very easy and I get anxious/nervous sometimes. Nothing life threatening or .. it's nothing that I can't deal with. It still kinda sucks though. It's whatever though. Honestly, if I could do it all over again I probably would have stayed in the Navy for a full 20 years or 30 years. There is difficulties and some Bullshit you have to deal with, but ... Being in the military really is a great career and you get a lot of great benefits and it's something that you feel very proud about that's very important for our country. I was emotionally numbed for years in my teenagehood and just these two years in college, I started "resensitising"- along with repressed memories coming back and hitting me like a bus. I moved from my shitty household 3 years ago, but it always feels like yesterday whenever I get flashbacks from a trigger. No matter how much I give myself pep talks to be strong and not let the past control me, it is so easy to relapse into that fragile state. The saddest part about confessing to my friends one night was them not expecting me to have a messed up childhood- because I was always the loudest and bubbliest in the squad.

Could you do a video about dyspraxia? I know not many people have it, but I have it and think it’d be interesting for me to learn more about what I have and for maybe somebody else to learn something new. ❤️

My papa has ptsd, and it’s because of the Vietnam war. He got pulled out of collage to fight in it. And a number of things happened. The one I know to be the saddest is that his friend was shot right next to him.

Also... ASD (Acute Stress Disorder), can be a sign that people will go on to develop PTSD (ASD occurs within the 1st day, but is less than a month), it does NOT mean that people with ASD WILL get PTSD.

For me having ptsd is horrible especially when your triggers are everywhere.. cars, men, loud sounds, etc. I'm used to just holding it all in and acting like everything is fine... It's also hard when you have people who don't know you, telling you how fake you are, how only solders can get it and how you don't have it. But I just learned to ignore them over the years but still gets hard especially when you have other medical and mental health problems
