Spent 6 days in Iceland after 2 months of traveling the northern half of Norway.
Was just barely enough time to do the E1 Ring Road around the island with lots to see, but no time for any glacier walks or much else off the main road.
Saw amazing Northern Lights show one night, beautiful waterfalls, Black Sand Beaches near Dyrhólaey, breathtaking landscapes...and no traffic.
Loved Anna's vids of Norway and she is correct about here, needs more time to visit. Two or three weeks would be better.

I still have a couple years to choose though. The thing about Icelandic universities is (from the brief look I had) that they teach it in Icelandic. Favorite Nordic country...hmmmm. That is a bit like asking what is your favorite organ in the body, or maybe pointing out your favorite child. It can't lead to anything good. Just point out how wonderful each country is in their own way and how important it is for the others. Iceland to me has several associations. First of all it has maintained a window to the past through language and history, more than other nordic countries you can sense the past in their culture. Secondly, it's nature is so strange and different. Scandinavia is a very old landmass, while Iceland just recently popped up from the ocean. Culturally tied to ancient culture, and geologically a teenager. All countries are somehow tied to ancient culture, but Iceland have done the most in keeping it alive. Nationalism is the force that have distorted history most in all nations around the world, but I feel like Iceland have been most true to a real picture of the past....maybe.

I knew someone who lived there for three years and while she acknowledges the great things about the place, she was relieved to get out. Expensive, difficult to find work, people wont get close to you easily, especially if you don't slog you backside off to learn the language. The cold and miserable winters take their toll. Like many places I've been to and think I would like to live here, being a tourist is very different to living in a place. Remember, wherever you go, you take yourself with you.

the tap water is fine, there is usually a lot of wrongs when travel vloggers are descriping the water here.
the gethermal water is not pumped straight up from the ground to your sink, its pumped up and used to heat regular water through exchangers. the smell still manages to get over, same with the smell.
so.. when in the southern part of the country, you dont drink the hot water. the cold water is just regular spring water, you just have to let it run for a bit.
and then.. everywhere else around the country does not have geothermal hot water. just heated clean spring water

Norwegian tap water is really the tastiest in the world 😉
But in Iceland it’s also not bad 🙂 still not as tasty as in Norway though 🙂

@@AnnaGoldmanTravel you would have to taste water out on the countryside in iceland. the water in the colder non geothermal parts really dont taste the same. i grew up in the westfjords then moved to reykjavík and lived there untill me 30's, moved back west and man, i had forgotten how good the water is here.
also. drinking water straight from the ground is a thing here from little streams that come down the mountains.

@@ivarmarkusson382 Yep, the absolute best water in the world is if you visit some farm that has their own well up in a mountain-side. I lived most of my life in the north of Iceland and I was always a little bit disappointed with the water in Reykjavík. I live in Oslo now and it's generally very good, probably slightly better than Reykjavíks' but sometimes it can actually get a bit brown when there is torrential rain/bad weather, this is because the biggest water source is from a lake rather than an underground spring. I'm sure the water in more rural areas of Norway is up there with rural Iceland, but I think Iceland may edge it out mostly due to it having more layer of gravel and silt than most places in Norway which is mostly just a lot of granite rock so the water doesn't get as filtering.

Great vlog as always! After a few years you are still making rookie mistakes. Iceland is NOT a Scandinavian country. S.N.D. When in doubt say Nordic, that includes Iceland, Finland and Faroe island. N and S was not in a union for hundreds of yrs only 91! With D from like 1320 or something like that to 1814. We in N call it the 500 year long night… now you know my dear. Be safe and Keep up the good work! Love ya! Kisses and hugs!

The term Scandinavia (sometimes specified in English as Continental Scandinavia or mainland Scandinavia) is ordinarily used locally for Denmark, Norway and Sweden as a subset of the Nordic countries (known in Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish as Norden; Finnish: Pohjoismaat, Icelandic: Norðurlöndin, Faroese: Norðurlond).[28]
However, in English usage, the term Scandinavia is sometimes used as a synonym or near-synonym for what are known locally as Nordic countries

Yeah, that's not why Mcdonalds went under. It went broke in the total economic collapse after the government ran the country into the ground in 2008-2009. So technically it's due to bad management, but by the government. Just ask any Icelander in Norway. Most of them moved there in the crisis.

To be specific and add to what @rassgathole wrote. McDonald's requires franchisees to buy supplies from McDonald's in the US to meet their standards (or at least they did when McDonald's was in Iceland), but when the economic crash happened, the company running McDonald's in Iceland (Lyst ehf.) could no longer afford to buy supplies from abroad, so they ended their partnership with McDonald's and started Metro instead.
