When your kids trigger you

  • If you have a kid with ADHD maybe some of these are things have made you mad before.
-Always being late, distracted, don’t listen, you have to repeat yourself 100 times.
And maybe your autism spectrum kid has behaved in this way that made you super angry and lose control over yourself.
    - sudden anger, difficulty transitioning, autistic inertia, PDA.
This super angry feeling to the point where you find yourself shouting so hard that you know your throat will be sore later, and stomping around or storming out of the room and slamming the door to shut yourself off from your kids - this is not just regular anger. This is you getting triggered.

I just came across your channel, in the middle of having a break down myself. I have Adhd, and Autism. I also have two boys, one with Adhd and Autism, and my other son shows signs of some anger and Autism. You nailed my exact feelings and emotions in this video. I'm trying to get a grip and manage myself and the kids. I'm a stay at home, who also homeschools. Thank you, this video gives me hope😊

Thanks so much for your comment. Anger goes hand in hand with PDA in my household and the feeling of “not being heard”. When does it come up in your family?
You are doing the best you can and no one else is a better answer for your kids and what they need. ♥️

It’s also cool that you said this articulated your “feelings and emotions” not many people realize these are actually two separate things deserving separate understanding.

Thank you for the encouragement. PDA usually comes about when I am trying to multi-task my family's needs. I rush around tending to my boys and husband and end up feeling resentful, and angry with all the tasks I find difficult. In return my kids feel my anger, which leads them to act up, and leaves me with a melt down, along with my boys. Since I have now excepted I have ADHD, because I was in denial that I had it. I'm slowly working at it by going more slow, and not to multi-task. I do what little I can do. I also have Chronic fatigue syndrome/ME...sorry so long.

@@user-qb1qf3jp3z chronic fatigue also? Wow I’d love to hear the story of that. In my friend circle that was a precursor to an autistic burnout and then autistic diagnosis. What’s your story?

Well I'm actually a writer at heart. My goal is to write a book about my life story, and a workbook for moms/and untraditoinal teaching to take on more of a artistic creative approach to navigating adhd, and Autism. This all ties in with my cfs syndrome and I also suffer from P.O.T.S. syndrome as well. I never knew I had these autoimmune diseases until last year. This has added to my plate and with only me and my husband, I had to survive and still be mom. I believe my conditions could have been brought on by trauma/ an infection as well. But trauma plays a bug part in my life to much to write here. If you have any questions for me or support on your end because you are doing an amazing job with this channel. You get to the point, you are real, and your topics resonate with me.

I love this!!! Since my kids are home all the time now because we are homeschooling, I have found myself triggered a lot more. These are all really great tips ❤

I have a pretty good understanding of this and it has definitely helped. My triggers are way more sensory especially noise and touch. It’s taken everything I have not to let myself be consumed by the depths of hell with guilt and wanting better for my kids. Releasing judgment and shadow work has helped tremendously. But I’m still quite triggered by their loudness. I know it’s all ‘normal’ kid behaviour, do u have any tips and strategies for coping with the noise, overstimulation and overwhelm?

i use earphone when I feel overwhelmed but still have to take care of the kids.. it helps me

    • @NeurodivergentMom

I have started to ask them to accommodate me by being quieter when I really need it like when I'm sick or have a headache. They have to learn to live with others and respect their needs as well, so I feel OK asking them to do this.
But my NUMBER ONE strategy is to leave the room and step outside onto the terrace, garden, balcony, whatever, anywhere will fresh air and close the door behind me. Even better if I can do it barefoot. This helps me to regulate my nervous system and not tip into a meltdown and start to shout at the kids and accidentally hurt them emotionally by saying something mean for example.

with the HSP , do you mean Highly sensitive person described by Elaine Aron in 1996 which is just rebranded autism ? When you compare ASD and HSP traits, descriptions .. it is the same just with different words used

    • @NeurodivergentMom
      @NeurodivergentMom  Před 6 měsíci +2

Yes. It’s a precursor to autism in my opinion. My second kid is too young to present many autism traits and for now I only see few so that’s why I keep HSP as a category
