Sorry to hear you were hit. My e39 530i that I've owned for 19 years that is mint condition, lowered, and a 5-sp was hit 3 weeks ago while sitting at stop light. The light turned green, I put it into a gear, and then I get hit by a Silverado. Slow impact but the fact that mine was lowered and his was a tall trunk meant that he went right into my trunk/taillight which smashed that and bent in my rear side panel. Damage was worse than I thought but not terrible but lack of parts and amount of labor on a unibody... they totaled it. I kept it as the car has sentimental value and almost every part including clutch, short shift kit, vanos, all gaskets and vacuum lines, fuel pump/filter, etc has less than 5k miles on them. I drive it less than 800 miles/year and the one time I do... Anyway I had a 2010 L322 and agree with everything you said. I sold it after a few years with only 65k miles cause the inherent timing chain issue with that 5.0L just wasn’t worth my anxiety. I had it quoted at $9-10k which I just wouldn’t want to invest in a 13 year old car.
Even with the damage, I love this vehicle. Want it soo much. Plus you've taken great care of it. Someday I'll be lucky enough to have 1. No many have owners like you though.

I would just replace both doors. Should have plenty to choose from from wreckers! Don’t waste such a great car!!
