    8:45 you should have put the psychic on the oricorio and retreat, then attack with meloetta for 270.

      Will definitely cover rotation ready decks once we know what the landscape will look like!

    Love the video's. Have really helped me get back into the game over the past week after taking off since base set sun and moon. Would you consider doing a set review video of sorts for lost origins covering stand out cards/archetypes from it?

    • @InThirdPerson
      @InThirdPerson  Před 2 lety +1

      I have a Lost Zone video coming up on Thursday, but it's far from a comprehensive review of the set. I made it mostly to explain the returning mechanic for new players and some of the possibilities it enables with a few of the new cards.
      Admittedly, I haven't looked too deeply into Lost Origin. I know that Giratina and Zoroark are the big cards, but I'm certainly not well versed in this set to speak to it as a whole. However, I have kicked around the idea of highlight "top cards" or cards I think are worth looking out for.
      As I continue to find my footing in this space, full-on set reviews may happen down the road! Thank you for the suggestion!

      Also, welcome back to the game! Warms my heart to hear that I've had any sort of role in you continuing your journey in this game. Hope you get as much enjoyment today from the game, if not more!

    Thanks for this, I'm getting into pkmn tcg, and I have the calyrex 2 but I've seen mew used competitively more often, and mew is adorable so I was looking wt grabbing this too. It being rotation safe also helps, so thanks.

    • @InThirdPerson

      Shadow Rider as a competitive deck peaked during the Chilling Reign era and hasn't been the same since Gengar Mimikyu Tag Team GX rotated out. That said, the deck is still a beast in Expanded. Mew, however, is a top 2 deck in Standard and definitely worth it if you're looking to battle with the best! You'll need to get 2 more Genesect V, 2 more Mew V, and one more Mew VMAX either by buying the singles or a second copy of the deck, but a fully-upgraded Mew deck is a force to be reckoned with and likely will be for the foreseeable future!

    I just got the Shadow Rider Calyrex deck and realized that almost all of tge trainers will likely rotate out come Jan 2023. Not sure if that is worth it for 2 months of play before having to rebuild it. Is that the same situation with the Mew deck? I know you mention this deck is meant to be rotation safe. Looks like maybe just Switch?

    • @InThirdPerson
      @InThirdPerson  Před rokem +4

      Mew is very intentionally built to be rotation safe, which is why certain staples aren't in there, such as Quick Ball. Everything in that deck will survive rotation, though it does mean it will be kind of wonky out-of-the-box. It's still really strong as is and is literally one of the best decks in the game if you fully upgrade it.
      The Calyrex decks were released in the summer, giving players 6-ish months to play them while they're still in standard. To your point, the their value will diminish as we get closer to rotation (which we still don't know the exact date of, though early 2023 seems most likely), but players who got it early will get the most value out of it in terms of Standard play. The value will decrease over time, but there's also the value of having a great deck right now that you can play, learn the game with, win with, expand upon, and earn in-game rewards with that could get you even more cards in PTCGO.
      Shadow Rider is impacted by rotation, but it's not necessarily as bad as it looks. Research, Boss, and I'm pretty sure Switch are not rotating, as they got updated regulation marks in later printings of those cards. In the short term, Marnie can be substituted with something like Judge or Shauna, even though it's not quite the same thing. Great Ball was always bad and should be replaced with Ultra Ball or another form of Pokemon search anyway. Ultra Ball would also cover the loss of Evolution Incense. Not to mention all of the new cards coming as part of Scarlet and Violet, which will likely be reworks of certain cards that are rotating out. I don't think it's necessarily in need of an overhaul post-rotation.
      Ice Rider is MUCH more impacted by rotation, as the entire Shady Dealings line disappears on top of a similar set of trainers from Shadow Rider going away. However, the deck as a whole is so good and the foundation for many other top decks in the game right now (Palkia, Arceus, Radiant Charizard, Rapid Strike Urshifu, etc.) that they're willing to take the plunge and get all of these pre-rotation cards right now. Even if they're rotating soon, you could buy the Ice Rider deck, throw in some Palkias, and probably do really well in a few tournaments. For some, that may make it worth it still.
      Value is going to be relative and I get your point. I started playing the game a few months before the last rotation and I made a conscious decision to not invest in any cards/decks that were rotating out (anything Sun & Moon). Those months were rough, as I was short on a bunch of staple cards and decks that would have made my life much easier back then. But it was the decision I made to save money and future heartbreak. I don't know if it was ultimately worth it, but it's a decision that we make for ourselves based on what we're looking for.

      @@InThirdPerson Thank you for your help! That does make sense. Here is what I'm planning to do when rotation occurs to get the best life out of my Shadow Rider deck:
      Substitutes:
      1. Energy Recycler for Ordinary Rod
      2. Boss's Orders Cyrus for Boss's Orders Lysandre
      3. Caitlin for Marnie
      4. Marnie's Pride for Training Court
      5. Boost Shake for Evolution Incense
      6. Adventurers Discovery for Great Ball
      7. Ultra Ball for Quick Ball
      8. Escape Rope for Switch and Air Balloon
      9. Prof Research Rowan for Juniper
      I think that would only cost me about $10 in singles and would extend the life of my initial investment through next year which would be pretty worth it I think. It's either that or maybe get the Mewto deck or both, haha!

    • @InThirdPerson
      @InThirdPerson  Před rokem +2

      @@BradW. You don't have to change Boss. It's considered to be the same card, even though it has the old regulation marker because the primary name (Boss's Orders) and function are exactly the same.
      Same for Professor's Research. No need to change that. You can actually run much older prints of Professor's Research in modern decks because it's still considered to be the same card that's standard legal.
