  • An old video of a Dutch national (talent) hurdles training session in 1998 with special guest, then WR-holder Colin Jackson, invited by me, NR-holder Robin Korving.
A lot of young talent was present, like:
-- Gregory Sedoc EKI 2007 champion, NR-holder indoor
-- Rosina Hodde EK 2014 finalist, 4th Dutch all time
-- Judith Vis 6th Dutch all time, multiple national titles
Also many good coaches, of course Ineke Bonsen, but also Marjan Olyslager (many years NR-holder) en Marita Swart - van Zwol.
Check out the stretching, close distance hurdling, jump starts, start instructions and the "do or die" 4-step start
Camera en editing: Ron Korving (my dad)

I noticed that on the lead leg drill, Jackson seems to bend it (right leg) in enable to clear the hurdle

Correct, it was only half distance and he wasn't used to that, but perhaps it isn't doable for someone not so tall anyway. Now as a (youth) coach I only rarely put them that close.

Colin always drilled with a bend in his lead leg regardless of the height and spacings.

We train the glutes to fire using that drill. As tight as you can get the hurdles, about 6ft, curl the lead around the side and accelerate the lead foot down. Its important to follow that with a true motion lead leg drill at 42" to establish hip block/knee drive and 3/4 extension of leg. #yourewelcome

Lol, no Gregory Sedoc was simply impressed with Colin's fast reaction even though he himself was only marginally slower.

Nice video. What is the distance for the 4 or die exercise?

Hi, sorry for the late reaction, I don't really monitor this video. I believe it was around 22 feet.

I always liked Jackson's cat-like technique, so I assume you are talking about mine. Yeah, mine is far from pretty :-)
It did have some advantages though, with staying compact, efficiency and keeping my rhythm/speed. I don't know where it could have taken me, but I'm pretty sure Liu was better.
