A Rugged SAPPHIRE Covered Smartphone? - Durability Test!

  • We don't take sapphire claims lightly around these parts. When Kyocera announced their DuraForce Pro 2, with a full sapphire covered display and back camera. I knew i had to get my hands on one. Is Kyocera using real sapphire crystal to protect the display? or did they use the same Apple Junk Sapphire that's found on the iPhones and iPads? The only way to find out is with a durability test. We'll start by taking the Kyocera Duraforce Pro 2 and put it through a scratch, burn, and bend test.
    Do you think all phones should start using Sapphire? Let me know in the comments.

      Geezz, friggin Apple. Triple the price, but lowgob materials. Apple taking advantage of peoples' trust, the same as a lot of other companies. The marketing company thinktank - give them the impression that it's good by charging double/triple, make it attractive to the eye, use a few low-cost/no-cost token-gesture things to differentiate it, present it nicely, then charge double/triple.

Working in computer shops i converted many a card board box in to a disposable bin for dead parts by taking off the flaps with a good very sharp knife never once cut my self cutting towards my self. The few times i had close calls where cutting away from may self. Grabbed the flap with left hand and drew the blade along the box flap toward my self great control. @blakeschoof2838 Před 5 lety +118

      I believe the issue with it being complicated was never simply putting it in the phone. Its to do with supply, making sapphire displays takes a long time, and for a company like apple who sells millions upon millions of phones, there is simply no company that can create the displays fast enough. For a small company like Kyocera who isn't planning on selling or stocking that many phones, it is much more feasible. Hence why the only other smartphone with a sapphire display is a limited edition phone from HTC, not a full fledged flagship.

    If you're looking for a justification for the burn test, it comes into play when repairing waterproof phones that have their screens glued on. You need to heat the gaskets to soften the adhesive before you pry it the screen off. So if a screen is really susceptible to the heat test, then you need to know that you have to be super careful when removing it if you're ever repairing that phone. Now, we all know that the amount of heat your need is less than an open flame directly to the glass, but it's still good to know.

      No. You usually need to set your heatgun on a temperature of 80-100° Celsius (176°-212° Fahrenheit).
      The flame of a lighter, at its hottest point (right above the blue tip) is around 1300°C or 2372°f hot.

    • @rjsprojects
      @rjsprojects Před 5 lety

      What if you're a DIY guy, after watching these tests you know you can use a lighter to soften the adhesive instead of a heat gun. You know that you can be reasonably careful and still not damage the phone. Obviously you should use a heat gun if you have one, but in a pinch you can heat up a phone with a lighter or in a frying pan and as long as you're paying attention, you're not likely to permanently damage the screen.

    There are two big reasons why companies don't use Sapphire: Sapphire is more brittle so if you drop your phone it'll crack more easily. I don't know about you but I rather have a scratched screen than a cracked screen. Sapphire is more reflective, making the screen less visible under direct sunlight, and also by using a Sapphire screen this will cause your battery to drain faster because your phone will need more light to make through the Sapphire screen so yeah......

    I've had this phone for going on 2 years, and still clean it under running water for kicks. I have dropped it plenty and never had any extra protection on it. No scratches noticable when the screen is on. One thing I'd say about it is that, while the exterior holds up phenomenally to abuse, I can tell the gyroscope and processor are feeling the abuse. Assuming however durable the phone is, the innards will still get knocked around. All in all, most durable phone I've ever seen!

The issue is that you morons repeat boring hashtags without actually knowing what your talking about. Also if your stuck in 1992 then you can still use your normal wired headphones - just use the adapter.
