XRX VS DRZ V2: Who Deservies YOUR $$$

  • To be perfectly candid the performance difference between most RWD drift chassis is very negligible once they are properly tuned... What really matters is deciding what features you want such as a high motor mounts, style of steering system, aluminum color, & knuckle design.

    I just got a drift art and it seriously gives a solid run for competition out of the box against any hopped up unit. I was amazed how easy it is to tune and the suspension is stellar

      For real tho, the DA suspension is on a whole nother level! I have been tinkering with my DRZs lately & trying to figure out a better suspension set up, i managed to replace the front mono shock a Orlandoo Hunter shock but I'm not sure what to do about the rear end... Ill figure it out eventually.

    Hey BMR! You have helped me tremendously in the past with my MAO3O awd mini z ideas. I am currently adding to my ping pong table drift track and wondered if you could do a video on chosing surfaces for your drifting? Carpet vs laminate also I have been seeing other people on other channels using some kind of thin flexable material on the track I cant figure out what they are using. It looks like painted almost like cardboard but idk. Thanks for your great videos and keep up the good work!

    • @BMR3
      @BMR3  Před 3 lety +4

      Hey Chuck! Yeah I have considered doing a video on that topic, but I would prefer to have footage for examples & I don’t have access to all the surfaces I would like it test. That will have to be a video for down the road.
      Regarding laminate VS carpet, LAMINATE all day long! I love laminate for drifting, it’s a perfect material since it’s so smooth & the amount of grip seems to be perfect in my mind. Carpet on the other hand is a bit of a beast, much higher traction which leads to MUCH higher speed drifts & an added side effect is the debris from the carpet get in the wheels & differentials.
      I believe what you are seeing in other videos is vinyl rolls, I have seen people having tracks printed out on massive vinyl sheets & they turn out amazing. Only issue is space & the price tag 😹
      I’m looking at getting this for my personal home track: www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/cut_to_size_plastic/abs_sheets/524?fbclid=IwAR3amTJNalrcaB03ef2aZDT1FS1Tp4IIWV-TtdjKChRy2ELya1NDR-i6vFQ
      You can get the ABS sheeting above in larger sections & the best part is it can be rolled up & stored if you get it thin enough. I have seen a lot of people in the Facebook groups recommending ABS sheeting for a drift surface & it makes for a somewhat standard surface we can compare ourselves to.
      Hope this helps!

      May I be so kind to put op for one really good and considerable ‘good bang for your buck’ surface to grind your drifting skills on? Here it comes anyway; I often have puzzled and build up 40 square meters (i’m Dutch, in Europe we use the metric system so hopefully this isn’t a obstacle for the sake of this solution for your ping-pong table EVA tiled surface. Of witch i have to thank you for the suggestion. Thanks man, a happy new year to you too) ….racetracks at my home on different sizes of tiles combined flawlessly. Because a 40x40cm tile has got the same seams at the edge as a 60x60cm and 1m x 1m tile. Super smooth, mega durable and very very cheap. So my tip to you is give it a try, you will be surprised.

      But yeah I don’t have a GLD, I heard people where having nightmares with their GLD builds & it put me off. That’s actually why I ended up choosing an XRX since the GLD was taking so much heat in the groups... but you know how it goes, each “kit” is different & what might be a smooth build for some can turn into a nightmare for others solely based on luck 🙀 That’s why I want to get behind an ULTRA high end chassis that has perfect QC, shoot at this point just charge us $1000 & be done with a “perfect” chassis.

      Hey man, yeah the k989 is a decent starting point & has ALOT of upgrade potential. Plus there are a bunch of video tutorials online regarding that platform & they should be able to help you a lot.
      But regarding the mini-z, you can’t go wrong with a couple ma-020 AWD chassis. They are highly upgradable, easy to work on & you can change out the bodies to fit 90% of Autoscales on the market. You can’t change the servo on the mini-z since they are not standard, but they don’t need a servo upgrade. Other then that everything else can be upgraded.
      It just depends on your budget, if you have $400 then I would highly recommend the mini-z since they are such a simple platform, come with the controller, drift spec tires, a beautifully painted shell, & run off AAA batteries.

    Unless you own the gld I don’t think you can say the XRX is “better” also I personally prefer the DRZ v2 steering system, it’s literally the opposite of how you explained it. The DRZ v2 steering is on one post that is held down by a plastic threaded nut that won’t back out with vibrations. But the slide rack on the XRX requires more maintenance and can become loose with vibrations because of how you tighten the slide rack.

    • @BMR3

      Theoretically yes, so long as you have additional standoffs since the bulkhead on the XRX sticks out farther then the DRZ, but it should work with the proper standoff

    • @BMR3
      @BMR3  Před 3 lety +1

      In that case I highly recommend picking up a ma-020 mini-z AWD. They will be the cheapest option at around $200 for a rtr kit & it comes prebuilt.
      The RWD drifters are full on kit cars & it requires a lot of attention to detail to build properly, & if you don’t build it properly they become a nightmare & can be very difficult to troubleshoot.
      I recommending getting your feet wet with the mini-z & then go from there once you get some experience & know what you want out of a kit car.

    • @BMR3
      @BMR3  Před 3 lety +1

      Its a cool chassis no doubt, but there are a lot better options out there. Personally if I was you I would look at the DKmk2 & the DRZ v2, I think those are two of the best chassis out there. The XRX is cool but the more time I spend with it the less & less I care for it.

      @BMR3  Před 3 lety +2

      DRZ V2 hands down all day long. It’s a much better design then the HGD1 & from what I’ve heard (from beaver) is it’s a lot of tuning to get the most out of the HGD1.
      I know what you mean, it’s hard to make the choice on a budget, but I highly recommending saving up for the DRZ V2. It’s the best choice for the long run IMHO
