- 2004 R53 vs 2013 R56 GP2 - Which is going to win? Me driving both cars about a year apart. Left: 2013 MINI Cooper GP (GP2) with tune, intercooler, downpipe (about 230-240HP), a Quaife LSD and nothing else. Right: 2004 MINI Cooper S "CORNERS" - 244HP + brake & suspension mods. at Maryhill Loops Road, WA, USA. #modmini #modminiCZcams

Sweet!!! Pretty similar times and what do you reckon in terms of driving which one do you prefer ? 👍
The modified R53 was a better track car but a terrible street car. The GP2 is more confidence inspiring and less work to drive fast, and more pleasant for commuting. It has lots of torque compared ton an R53 which is also great to have on the street.
Although - It's a waste to commute in a GP2 and a pain to change the tires/brakes all the time, so recently got a high mileage 2009 Clubman S Turbo which is a very nice commuter car and keeps "boring miles" off the GP2 odometer.
Mod MINI thx ... I have a 2002 s r53 and I agree not the most pleasant drive commuting etc but I love her so much, I’ll get everything sorted out it needs a new clutch, brakes and I’m planning to take to the track for the first time soon... your vids will be very helpful thx very much 👍
Fully committing to the gen 2's now huh. Look forward to videos haha
Wasn't planned this way, I had for a while a nice R53 that I was going to use for commuting but it was too sporty for that. It didn't make sense to have a GP2 and an R53 - they scratch the same itch. The Clubman is plenty fast but not as raw. Just right for commuting.
@@ModMINI I would love to see you run the R53 again. one year apart, means 1 extra year of driving experience on that track maybe?
I just got a r53 recently and it's so much fun
Ditto. It's a blast to bring it down twisty roads. The fuel consumption is absolutely horrific going around town but I've just tried to ignore that while I enjoy it lol.
Better than my E70 X5 4.8i which gets about 12mpg US...
In town I get up to 30mpg . No need to rev high it's only county back roads I get into it . But still needs work done to it for being 14 years old . But can't complain for 2,800
@@user-tv4oi7lq5v I have no idea how you're getting 30 MPG around town. From what I've read R53s do well to get 30MPG on a motorway nevermind around town. I think you're being rather optimistic about your fuel economy around town lol. I'm getting about 15. I can just about get 30 on a run.
MrManBuzz well many factors effect mpg , do you have mods ?? Is it a 5pd or 6 . Driving habits etc . I don't track my mini currently . at 25mph I'm in 4 gear . 35 mph in 5th .
The sound reminds me of Italian job movie. I’m going to watch it again today for the 90th time
great vid ... have both type cars. About to sell a 2005 mcs with jcw tuning kit. Butibg a r56 on Saturday. The r53 with a 17% pulley cannot keep up with the 2011 r56 at all - stock!!!!! It was crazy seeing me test drive with it today!!! I too can't DD the r53 even with Koni FSDs in the r53!! gonna look at more of your vids..thx
R53 has much taller gears, less shifting, but just a pulley isn't enough to catch an N18 R56. Also need at least an aftermarket header. Get a tune for your R56 - it will be much faster.
Thx... I was told SC was still better than turbo. NOT. Lol. Tune is in view already.thx. Can't wait. Which one do you recommend, please? what to watch out for at the mechanic check-out tomorrow? timing chain guide, turbo, fuel pump on the 2011?? Thank you in advance!!
Good upload.
I would say to anyone thinking....what's the best car??
You have to say that progress is progress, and there's no getting away from the fact that the R56 is the better car.....the R53( which I own) is more raw, feels more retro I would say in how it delivers.....but you can't get away from how refined the 56 is over it.
I wanted the supercharger whine and wasn't worried about long journey comfort as I have other cars, and truth is on a twisty road they would both be just as good fun and just as fast..... The F56 changed the flavour yet again and is such a quality machine, but even less raw than the R56.....but in essence they are all bloody superb
Very nice!!! Does the limited slip differential on your r53 make a noticeable difference?
yes, but I also installed one into the GP2 (forgot about that, haha)
Pretty similar!
What do you reckon differs the most?
GP2 has way better brakes. GP2 has more torque and acceleration, but R53 244hp seems to have more top end power, although takes longer to get access it. R53 had really stiff suspension for motorsport, GP2 is a balance between sport and comfort. I miss my R53 but the GP2 is a really nice car.
HAHA...that was fucking awesome that was one empty rd bro...excellent...do you offer advice on modding mini coopers...?
it's a hillclimb track i believe, and he has plenty of videos on first gen mini cooper mods and how-to's. Take a look through the rest of his channel. its good stuff
Yeah. Closed circuit. Check out my channel and subscribe if interested.
Hello, im from spain and im going to buy a mini, im not sure if the r53 cooper s o r56 cooper s . What you think about it? Here the r53 cost like 5000 and r56 10000, the only think i dont like is the psa engine of the r56
R53 is more direct experience, but less power. Gen 2 has more torque, easier to drive fast, PSA engine can be good if well maintained.
@@ModMINI thank u for answering
Are you going to be there this year I will be in my r53!
I was sick and did not go this year.
I have been thinking about getting a mini for under 5k is it worth it?
Depends on condition and what you are expecting to get. There are some good ones for under 5k but don't buy the first one you look at.
I just got a 05 R53S for 4,700 and its killer. Just had change control arm bushing and ball joints.
They are very easy to work on yourself! and theres plenty of parts sources online.
thanks guys
I bought one last month with 68000 miles on it for €2750 which is a little over 3k USD I think. I love it so far, as long as you don't buy a lemon I think you'll love it too. (and even then you'd still probably love it, I have suspicions the clutch/DMF is on the way out on mine which is an expensive fix but I'm still enjoying it despite that worry looming over me)
I've come from a background with being around original Minis so I looked down upon the BMW Minis for years, looking back that was rather closed minded and foolish of me because they're fantastic.
If you haven't gotten one yet watch Mod Minis video on what to look for when you're buying an R53.
How GP video can be so stable and not shaky?
Camera is bolted to the car
Mod MINI I love the quality! What camera do you use?
GoPro.
Seemed like he was pushing the gp a lot more than the r53.
I feel like I was driving just as hard - but GP obviously doesn't handle as well as the R53 with a really stiff suspension.
Any r53 6sp auto owner?
Got an 05 R53S auto, love it!
When the transmission goes wrong, it's the valve body that needs replacing, not the clutch plates.
@@ModMINI actually I am going to do so. XD but I am still happy with it.
@@ModMINI would you mind give me some advice? A transmission kits to fix the solenoid or a valve body / solenoid replacement?
