    When they cleaned out their Fort Lee, New Jersey warehouse in 1973, NBC decided to "wipe" the master tapes of 'HULLABALOO" in order to to reuse the tape stock for other programs. They contacted producer Gary Smith, and asked him if wanted a complete set of the series' color tapes. He declined- and the tapes were reused [NBC kept the black and white kinnies]. Somehow, three of the half hour color tapes were preserved.

    Great show and great guests, but compared to Shindig! or Shivaree, this was too square.
    Pop acts singing songs geared towards our parents tastes.
    The dancers are great, and the A-Go-Go segment was always good, but as a kid watching for the singing acts, the dance only numbers, were when we ran to he fridge.
    Now, as an old guy, I appreciate it more, but still, compared to the others, this show was totally L7.... and that means SQUARE, Dad.

    • @johnganun6636
      @johnganun6636  Před 2 lety +1

      I would guess that it would be square to a teenager. The musical guests - especially during the first year - were a bit sophisticated. Sammy Davis Jr, Jack Cassidy, Dean Jones, Connie Francis, etc. These were not the heart throbs of the day. The sets were a bit artistic, the music director was Peter Matz who went onto do The Carol Burnett Show for most of the next decade. Ultimately, their formula didn't make it past two seasons, but I'm finding some of this old footage fascinating. Check out videos #2 and #3.
