- Sammy Davis Jr and Joey Heatherton perform selections from West Side Story, featuring the Hullabaloo Dancers. Cool!

I'm back! I miss those dancers!! Sammy Davis, Jr. was a Super Star!! Thank you for posting this Precious Gem!!
Very good performance by All Dancers!
I love watching Patrick Adiarte dance! He is so sharp and amazing!!
EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT!!!
Joey Heatherton is pretty amazing! Her reputation has been shreaded over the years but the girl keeps up with the dancers!
"keeps up with the dancers"?
She IS a dancer -- clearly well trained and highly skilled.
Keeps up is a joke, she was a diva dancer !
I love watching the dancers! I would like to see a documentary of where are the dancers now.
Lada Edmund JR., was my favorite dancer.
@@moemcgovern7345 Mine, too!
we don't always get what we want
I was a huge fan of Hullabaloo but don't remember this number...it was a total WOW!!! David Winters was such a great choreographer and the dancers were perfection!!!
Sammy was a 4 pack a day smoker. He was as good as anyone out there.
It's a shame that Sammy Davis Jr's career is perceived as a Vegas act. He was so much more than that.
One of the best entertainers of the last century.
Vegas act? You have got to be kidding.
he embraced the lounge lizard thing
WHO SAID VEGAS ACT?... THAT'S IN YOUR HEAD... GREATEST PERFORMER THAT EVER LIVED.
I got do this in the 70.
The clip is from Joey's second appearance on Hullabaloo. I remember coming across an copy of Cavalier magazine from July of 1965. She talked about the heat she took from her wild dance number on the debut episode. Sammy defended her, and when he hosted the next month she was a guest.
I included a clip from her first appearance in Hullabaloo Dancers 02. She really was the moment!
Notice dancers include Broadway Tony winners Michael Bennett and Donna McKechnie, as well as Patrick Adiarte from FLOWER DRUM SONG.
These dancers are due a further look. Their respective careers are amazing!
Also Suzanne Charney.
Joey! Joey! Joey!
exactly
Speaking of West Side Story. David Winters who was the choreographer on Hullabaloo played A-rab in West Side Story.
That was in the movie. He was Baby John in the original Broadway production of WWS.
I would love to see this in color..
Originally telecast on February 23, 1965.
This would have been perfect as a production number on Sammy's own variety show in 1966, or producer Gary Smith's previous series, "THE BELL TELEPHONE HOUR"......but it was out of place on "HULLABALOO", which was supposed to feature rock and pop performers.
This must be a B&W kinescope.
Not everything black and white is kinescope
This *is* a black and white "kinnie". The color videotape masters of "HULLABALOO" were "wiped" by NBC in 1973 for reuse- all except for three half-hour shows from the second season. 😑
Joey heatherton was underrated as a performer, unfairly compared to Ann-Margret. But the girl could dance.
SHE WAS SPECTCULAR... NO ONE CAN TOUCH HER TRUE GIFTS!
Is that Michael Bennett with Joey at 3:30 ?
yes
Joey Heatherton never should have divorced Lance Rentzel . I could give a reason why but I would get kicked off U- Tube .
Is that Lola Falana, in the 4 minute segment?
I have a total of 8 videos I made in this series. Go check out "Hullabaloo Dancers 01 Introduction" and you will see that the dancer you are asking about is actually the wonderful member of the core group, Barbara Alston. However, if you go check out "Hullabaloo Dancers 03 1965 Highlights" you will see the gorgeous and talented Lola Falana!
Joey Heatherton clasping hands with Sammy Davis at 6:15? Does this pre-date Petula Clark and Harry Belafonte?
I was researching this recently. It does pre-date Petula and Harry. And get this - it was the same producer. Gary Smith
@@johnganun6636 Thank you for update. There was so much "hullabaloo" over that hand hold between Clark and Belafonte but this just went under the radar.
I was a flower child of the 60s and we didn’t care about that. Peace, Love and Happiness
I think one of those female dancers with Joey was sporting the earliest pre-Carol Brady shag haircut that I’ve ever seen someone wear that early on-cool!
Plus wanted to add that although Sammy and Joey “clasped hands” here, not long after or so Diana Ross and Ed Sullivan shared a quick cheek kiss as The Supremes were leaving the stage post-live performance on a late-1965 episode of his show. Television “progress”! ❤
