On many units, the laptop fans draw air from the bottom of the case (as you might expect) and also from the keyboard area. By closing the lid, you may be choking off half the inlet path for air and also a convection path for the region behind the keyboard near the hinge. After learning all this I decided to prop my lid open a few inches when docked.

Great content maybe a closed lid vs open lid but both use the cooling pad if they make a difference really curious because i have this dilemma as well

The biggest question is when you play with a closed screen does the heat not destroy the screen regardless of whether you have a cooling device underneath

It vents to the back. Not to the screen. It doesn’t affect the screen.

I have this same question, won’t the keyboard area heat up and the screen gets affected? I have a laptop and I wanted to mount it under the desk with the lid closed for my setup. I’m not too sure anymore though 😭

Hi, I love the idea of having a neat desktop by cheating my way through with a large monitor and a laptop with good specifications (gaming laptop) but is it bad to keep the lid closed while playing games or doing creative things with software that require power from processor/graphic cards? I mean it gets to a point where it starts overheating and I'm sure that will be harmful to the laptop. Would it be better if you keep the lid shut rather than completely closed? Thank you for sharing this video and reading this.

It depends on the laptop. For example, the Lenovo Legion that I currently use will work fine with the lid closed. Because the vents are at the bottom, sides and back.

@@JoTheTechie From what I'm understanding it is a matter of vent placement. Where do you recommend they would be located to do this setup, please?

I have a question, I've followed all instructions and it works, however it just locks when it is used for a long time. Even though the lock option is set to never. Any idea why it does that?

Did you test the open lid (without the cooling pad) when the laptop was elevated or was the laptop just on the desk?

Should I be duplicating my display or extending? Does it matter at all?

don't duplicate. Instead there's an option called 'show only 2' it shows only on your extended monitor and not your laptop. This may boost fps
