  • The Game Changers documentary revolutionized plant-based eating in professional sports and was a key component in the rise of plant-based nutrition among men and athletes. In this episode, I sit down with the producer James Wilks, an elite combatives instructor and winner of The Ultimate Fighter. James is a no-BS, open hearted intellectual, full of passion and charisma, and spent years of his life researching the science behind plant based eating when he was recovering from an injury and looking for answers to heal and stay healthy. James has broken a lot of narratives because of his motivation and desire to push the limits to get the heart of the topic at hand.
The Game Changers was executive produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, and Chris Paul, and the film went on to become the most viewed documentary of all time, garnering unprecedented accreditations from the U.S. Department of Defense Health and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Wilks was subsequently ranked by Men’s Health as #3 on their list, “The 13 Most Influential Men in Health & Fitness.”
    In this episode we cover:
    - James’ plant-based advocacy journey
    - What led him to the creation of The Game Changers movie
    - His debate with Chris Kresser on the Joe Rogan Experience
    - How the world of athletics has been influenced by his film
    - The rise in plant based eating among men, athletes, and professoinal sports
    - Why the general public is so confused about nutrition science
    - The most frustrating things he’s seeing in food recommendations and athletics
    - The rise in popularity of organ meats, carnivore diets and collagen intake
    - Protein myths
    - What he’s working on now and exciting projects he’s involved in

Such a great episode!! Thank you so much, Ellen, for having such amazing guests on your podcast who truly educate us on plant-based nutrition. This is has been game-changing for me on my journey to vegetarianism and has helped me feel more confident when my non-vegetarian friends and family question my and my husband’s choice to not eat meat. There is so much fear and misinformation out there about not eating meat, and your podcast guests have really empowered me to feel confident in my decision and my ability to kindly and informedly respond to criticisms. Thank you!!

Paul Saladino addressed a lot of James Wilks's points made in the argument Chris Kresser. ex. James would use epidemiology when convenient but would point it out as a flaw when not in his favor.
As Ellen Fisher says at czcams.com/video/qLtn3sQ2jBE/video.html, "it's integral to listen to both sides to understand what is the truth here."
It's a good listen if you are open to discussion and not set in hearing that your current thoughts are correct.

Hi keri, if I do an episode with someone like Paul Saladino it would be with an opposing views person to speak with them so that I can host the debate. I'm working on more opposing views episodes but trying to coordinate in-person conversations with two guests (which I prefer over the internet) is no easy feat haha. So I will still be doing plenty of episodes like this where I sit down with someone I admire in between those episodes.

Plant based food makes more money to kelloggs than most producers all together. There is nothing natural about plant base foods especially when those foods are made in factories.

Hi, fabulous. The alleged sequestration of carbon by grass fed cows is from the added off-farm food for the chickens which then fertilise the soil which makes the plants grow which sequester the carbon. So the effect is from off-farm, not some magic property of cattle. This sequestration also decreases over time.

If you're into bodybuilding or want to overall increase your protein intake, I'd highly recommend textured pea protein. Very delicious with some tomato sauce, doesn't cause bloating or digestibility issues for most people + very rich in iron and aminoacids. I cook 200g with some tomato sauce recipe of my mom and pack it into three meals lol it has about 45grams of protein per meal just from the textured peas, never have to worry abt meal prep this way. If you're vegeterian you can melt some shredded cheese on top for some more protein, also def boosts the taste or go for vegan cheese if you're vegan :)

I mostly vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts seeds, and I supplement my diet with raw dairy, fresh fish and some meat and eggs. Well I will never be a vegan, I do appreciate the episode. James makes some assumptions that have been disproven in many studies. He assumes that saturated fat is undesirable, I imagine that is because it has, in the past, been associated with heart disease. That has been completely disproven in many studies. He also makes an assumption that fiber is desirable in ones diet. There is so much information and studies that fiber is not necessary for a healthy gut and microbiome, and that it is often problematic for gut health.
Ellen, I have appreciated your willingness to represent opposing viewpoints. However I have never seen you represent the many benefits of a predominately animal-based diet. You call the experiences that many of us have on a meat-based diet, "misconceptions"! Are you willing to consider that you hold a strong bias that you are unwilling to challenge on your you tube interviews? I have never been happier, healthier and had more energy than I have for the last two years that I have been largely eating carnivore. I believe that this is our most evolutionarily appropriate diet. Watching the "game changer" I was so disappointed to see many untruths or half-truths stated as fact. I would love to have you include an interview with Nina Teicholz who has done a thorough amount of research and has done a really good job in exposing how industries and educational centers (like Harvard, the school which has sponsored many of the studies that have been shown to be fraught with paid industry bias and are the studies mentioned often in "Game Changer") have infiltrated what is considered nutritional science.
I offer you the challenge of representing both sides of the story.
I don't understand the whole"debate" concept for discussing our different choices on diet. Why do we need to disprove each other's points of view? Why can't we accept that different people make different choices for their own reasons. All these different studies that James brings up in this interview have many holes and biases and do not give clarity about "the truth". Your information, James, is also totally disprovable.
