I went to a Yamaha dealership for a key for my 2012 Yamaha Zuma. They pretty much told me too bad...lol. I brought in my Vin...too. A locksmitch will charge you over $100.
Thanks for the video. Having a key like you did makes it easy to find a key. Without the key, I've found the helmet locks are the easiest to remove. The code is stamped on the underside. If your lock has more than three characters it is always the last three that are the key code. This is true from the late 70s up until the early 90s. As you said, later models had a small tag that came with the original keys that contained the key code. If you don't record the number, there is no way to find the code on the bike. However, most dealers record the key code. If you know where the bike was purchased and you can prove ownership, the selling dealer may be able to help you. The VIN will not do you any good at the dealer or the distributor.
@trisa9625 lmfao it's amazing how some folks don't drown in a bottle of water. Under the lock. He clearly says to cut it off and it's stamped "under it" being on the backside of the actual lock itself... hope we narrowed that down for ya🤣
Any lock on your Goldwing will have the three digit code. Either a helmet lock or the lock on your storage area would be easiest to access. On eBay there are people that will make a key from the code for around $10.
My Triumph has a number stamped on the headstock lock. Would that be the number or code ur referring to? And how much is a key gonna cost? Thanks. Its a smaller key, the ignition key doesn't even start to go in to the lock. Thanks.
Hi I would like to seek urgent help as I lost my Honda.Forza 250cc(2005model) which i got a present from my Grandmum in 2007. Now I couldn't able to turn ignitiom switch and unable to start the engine. Can you please help to advise how may I get the key/bar code for it.
I have a 1982 Honda cm450e and I have lost the key. does anyone know if key code is on key cylinder base or on the helmet base? the numbers I get are different. I do not want to destroy the gas cap. please help.
Hey I have a 2020 cbr1000rr someone has stolen the keys too and I didn’t write it down in the manual I didn’t think about it but now I have not been able to ride for months. I am currently trying to get the bolts out of the ignition cylinder which have to be drilled out I am told but my forks are locked and im not sure how to get the drill with bit of that size in there to drill it. Any help would be greatly appreciated
hey mate kool vid but was wondering, for a cbr250r 2011 if i only have one key for my bike and want spares can i get spares cut and if so would i also need codes for these spare keys? from Australia in case that makes any difference.
I just ordered keys from Ebay and had a key place cut it.. just so I have a spare. Hope that helps. Extra keys are a Given when ever buying something second hand.. brand new they usally give you a couple. I don't ever wait when buying anything. I always get a key made most of the time 2. And make sure they work. Best of luck mate.
I have small stamped 812 and casted B1 to bottom of the ignition switch (Kawasaki) is that the code for the key i open the lock and didnt see other markings. it is a 89 enduro
So when I get the key code I can find another same exact coded key for my grom? I want to buy this grom but it has title and kid lost the key.... what do I do 🤦♂️
Great video but you didn't indicate where the code is on the ignition barrel. I lost the key to my 1983 Honda Magna and removing the ignition barrel was relatively easy compared to removing the gas cap lock or the seat/helmet lock. SO I have the ignition barrel removed and I did find a code. It was tiny and barely legible with the naked eye. I had to take a picture of it and zoom in to really see it. In any case, the code on it does not seem right based on what I've read about what the format of the code should be. It's a 6 digit code with only one letter- an 'R' in the second digit place. The rest are all numbers. Would this be the key code that I can take to a locksmith to have a key made?
Byron, on Hondas of that era, the last three digits are your key code. They will either be all numeric, such as 123, or begin with the letter A,B,C, or D followed by two numbers.
@@miguelarr4629 I'm fairly sure a 96 would have a key number stamped on any lock. I believe it was later that Honda only provided a code stamped on a piece of metal.
Hey just want to put it out there that I seriously don't think any place Would ever make a key for Any vehicle by just Givin them the V.I.N. Even if they could make them that way. Just because V.I.N. Numbers are located just about everywhere on vehicles. The dash board, door jams, etc. Way to easy to get one for thieves. If you could get one that way.. which I highly doubt, you would need proof of ownership etc.. plys.. how many places have keys laying around from any vehicle never mind something much older. The auto maker themselves Possibly could but I doubt that. My advice is get a key made before you even register your motorcycle, car, truck.. etc. That way you have a spare or 2. Also.. make sure they work. The person buying from an auction who bought a motorcycle, I'd change everything over.. ignition and everything. It may cost you a lil. If you decide to just sell it , or keep it, Nobody wants to deal with getting a key., plus you don't know if it runs gd, or runs at all. Good luck to everyone here. Good video btw. Thanks.
I tried it with the VIN number the dealer wants to sell you a whole new ignition system plus labor which is about the same as the locksmith $300 they don't know anything about key codes they said and with an older bike I think they're just spinning my wheels they want to sell me a new ignition
Just lost my key to a 2014 Kawasaki 300 ninja. Dealership wants to put in a whole new ignition switch in which is stupid. I'm like there's got to be something else out there way cheaper and not a run for my money. Thanks for video
Hello I lost my only key and the locksmith wants $300 to come out and make a key I'm not working and I haven't ridden the bike for almost 3 weeks I don't know that it will start now I don't want the battery to go dead I had put a new battery in with the last bit of money that I had. Anyway I have a 2005 C90 Boulevard I've looked everywhere for a code I can't find it. I don't have any tools really to try to take off the ignition switch I see that it's an Allen I'm not sure it's something small like a five or six or something like that but I don't have it and I can't afford to buy any tools. Thank you Mike
Thanks for the video. Do you know if I would find the key code stamped on a Kawasaki w650 (2002) just like on the model you showed in the video? I just lost my only key..
I cannot find mine someone stole my bike I found it and now there saying they lost my keys smh I have my pink slip I was thinking I could make a key like that
Whats really atrocious is that with cars if you can prove ownership [title and/or bill of sale] BMW will ship you a replacement key. Why motorcycles - which are comparatively cheaper cannot implement this beats me. Stories of Yamaha and Honda asking verifiable owners to pay for replacement of all key components is irrational bordering on bizarre. If BMW can secure the information for a 60K car Yamaha and Honda should be able to do it for 15K motorcycles!
I didn't even think about taking off my helmet lock. It was super easy thank you for the idea
