- 400 animals were saved from one property by the RSPCA, this is the story of the 47 guinea pigs rescued that day. In this episode of Shocking Rescue Stories with Dr Scott Miller, we hear how unneutured animals can spiral out of control, and the pressure this puts on rescue centres.
Thank you to Hayley and everyone at RSCPA Leybourne for sharing the guinea pigs' story ❤️

Truthfully, I am not a fan of guinea pigs. That being said, I don't want any animal to suffer. Bravo to the RSPCA for helping these little rascals, as well as the others from the location. Blessed be.
Hi Lee🌹🌹
How are you doing?
So happy the piggies were rescued. I love guinea pigs, but haven't owned any for a while. I had 2 that lived to be 10 years old. They're cute sweet pets. I like the fact that the babies can run around as soon as they're born, like a foal. I had some that looked like Gizmo from "Gremlins" at the same time the movie came out. Even with guinea pigs, spay/neuter is important. Their gestation is around 70 days, much like cats and dogs. (Jan Griffiths).
Im happy the RSPCA rescued the adorable little Guinea pigs...the greatest part is that most of them found forever homes. Well Done.❤❤
Sadly, many mentally ill people are both desperately lonely and financially challenged.
Neutering and other vet costs have skyrocketted and it is easy to understand how this can get out of control then shame makes it worse.
I did guinea pig rescue about 45 years ago and was lucky to only had to deal with ringworm a few times. What a nightmare on so many.
Great work👍
🥰🇨🇦
That bit about many mentally ill people being both desperately, deeply, lonely and financially challenged is spot on. Are also a number of people having varying levels of physical impairment who suffer same. I don't see how that can be remedied without society unanimously rising up and saying, "We are going to sacrifice our own stuff and our own lives and our own priorities and our own desires so we can fix this!"
Financial problems and loneliness can cause mental health troubles too. Life was simpler 50+ years ago when marriages and families were stronger. Covid also isolated people, and caused businesses to close or cut jobs. I don't recall animal shelters then. Now there are shelters, rescues, and fosters. But the cost of pet food and veterinary care, is causing people to relinquish their pets.
I have 2 guinea pigs, both just turned 7! I have had guinea pigs for over 23 years now. Five is the most I have ever had at one time. They are such sweet pets.
So glad the RSPCA was able to rescue and provide the needed medical attention these dear souls needed. Being able to rehome 65 of them is absolutely amazing!!! Bless you all at the RSPCA
💖💕🥰
You guys have all done such an amazing job caring for those guinea pigs. I love g-pigs - they are so much more than people think ❤
That’s so dear, I love Guinea pigs. They are so sweet, and their little personalities just to cute!
I must admit I'd never first give a thought of guinea pigs needing rescuing (to my ignorance). All creatures great and small deserve a cruelty free life!
I love guinea pigs! I miss the sounds they make. Everytime you open the fridge they would start wheeking!
I have three guinea pigs they are the sweetest little creatures. It’s so sad that people are so irresponsible and the poor animals suffer. You did an amazing job taking care of all those guinea pigs well done😊💟
Guinea pigs are so cute, & they have great personalities. And they're not nearly the amount of work some breeds of rabbits are...Dang, those babies are cute!❤
Yet most keep them in far too small cages, just because they’re small doesn’t mean they need less space. Heck a friend of mine have three in a 4x4m cage and that feels too small for them! They need a lot of space, not a shoebox :/
Guinea pigs are some of the most adorable and beautiful animals that one can have as pets. Together with cats, they are my favourite pets. What wonderful work the people from the RSPCA do!
400 animals in one property 😮. Makes you wonder how long the hoarding and neglect had been happening for before it was discovered as you don’t get that many animals in a short time frame so it had been a while. Can understand that there are many reasons why hoarding occurs and sometimes may not start out as neglect but spirals out of control and becomes unmanageable and people don’t ask for help / support and realise the animals are suffering soon enough and then won’t do anything about it for a variety of reasons. Hopefully the people involved got support themselves if that’s what was needed due to the reason for the hoarding and appropriate measures were put in place to prevent a reoccurrence. Wonderful work by the rspca team rescuing all the animals and then caring for them with their health conditions and pregnancies 👏🏻. So nice to hear the Guinea pugs have recovered and most of them now have new homes where they will be cared for properly 🐹💓
How can people not realize that things can get out of hand real quick?
In most hoarding cases whether animal or objects, mental issues play a huge part. The person literally cannot understand the logistics.
Cute sweet guinea pigs
People need to get their animals fixed you are amazing for happy them
If they can afford the astronomical vets bill. Yes, there is The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals but they are few and far apart. My nearest one is 2 hours away by public transport, for example.
I just discovered today this new channel you've begun. I've really enjoyed your vet practice segments on previous vet spots...your heart and knowledge for animals. Wondering if you moved on into large animal care. Thank you from Iowa US Edit: My boys who now are 48 and 50 loved their guinea pigs as kids when we were in a small apartment.
WOW!
Thank you for rescuing these precious souls! 💕🌠👏🙏💫
Always desex your female guinea pigs - preferably before 12-18 months of age, even if they don't live with a male piggy. It is for their health as they are more susceptible to ovarian cysts after this age. Also, it stops the constant hormone fluctuations as they are on heat (on average) around every 16 days!!!!
Yes, every 16 - 21 days a month.
Please don't keep breeding guinea pigs, I know the pups are soooo cute, but there are soooo many piggies at rescues that need a loving, fabulous home.
My 2 girls are rescues, got them at 8 weeks old, & they're now 6 years old. Best feeling knowing I saved them & have given them their best life 🐹🩷🐹
I love guinea pigs❤❤❤❤ I've had 2, Oreo and Alf. I miss their squeaks and wheeking when I got home, never mind when the fridge door would open. Alf had a pedigree with paper, but I just loved him for his great personality. He loved a good bath and blow dry as his red hair was very long. So very happy these were rescued and so many adopted.😊
guinea pigs are great pets. I had two when i was a kid. I still miss mine
Oh my, what a sweet success! I love Guinea pigs.
Fantastic herculean effort. You have my greatest admiration.😢❤
Thank you for the Wonderful work you do.💖👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌹🌹🌹
Wonderful outcome! Guineas are so loveable ❤😊
Hi Teri 🌹🌹
How are you doing?
@@GeorgeMoore-eh1kr Hi George. I think you have me confused with someone else. I don't know a George personally (I follow one from Australia). I checked with my husband, and he doesn't know one either...but, hope you have a lovely day 😊

Another great video Scott. Maybe they could be longer and have more content. 😁❤❤❤
oh boy
Great job everyone I'm impressed with the work you do ❤❤❤❤
The ringworm is a huge challenge!
❤❤❤
Amazing work thank you for helping them please give the kisses for me. I had a hamster growing up I named him Fuzzball because he slept in a fuzzy ball shape. I loved him dearly
Wondering what happened to the rest of the 400 animals? Hope they are okay now too 🙏 .. fantastic job with the guinea pigs ❤
Congrats on your 25k subscribers
I kept the schools Guinea Pig, Casper one summer. She was so sweet, she got so excited when she hear my voice. Maybe my granddaughter needs one?!? Thank you to the community for helping out this population boom.
It's important that guinea pigs are adopted with at least one mate, so a pair of guinea pigs. They're social animals & don't do well alone.
Do you think you have the space for them? They need large cages to fit hiding places for them. Unless you live in a house I would not recommend keeping pets. Guinea pigs are not for ignorant small children who just want them because they are cute, they need a lot of work.
@@NaeniaNightingale As long as there's enough space, I think it's good for children to learn to take care of a pet or two under the guidance of an adult who has done their research.
That amazing that people could help you
Wondering if they were all spayed/neutered before they were re-homed.
Understand hoarding is behind closed doors but 400 animals would’ve surely have caused a fair bit of noise and probably smells etc so can’t see how situations like this aren’t noticed sooner and stopped 🤔 Do neighbours etc not notice anything 🤔 Thankfully it was noticed eventually and all the poor animals rescued and cared for after an amazing job by the rescue teams 👏🏻🐹❤
Many people live on an isolated rural property where any neighbors are miles away.
@@joanross1384 yes I guess that’s true to an extent, but don’t people drive past these properties to get to places etc ? Do the people have no family that visit and notice things ? I suppose not or situations like this wouldn’t develop for so long. It’s just sad that the people seem to be basically forgotten about by society and not give the support they need and as a result situations like this develop. I doubt it’ll ever be stopped from happening but things need to be better somehow 🙁
@@Clare51257 Thing is, the people who might help would need to sacrifice something of theirs in order to make space in their own lives so they could go help, sacrifice their time, sacrifice their priorities, sacrifice their goals, sacrifice their desires, sacrifice their money, sacrifice their convenience, and so forth.
Alls I can say is woww👍
❤❤❤❤
Hi Suzanne🌹🌹
How are you doing?
😊
😢
I misread this as '45 pups born to rescued guinea pig' as in single mother, and thought you sold out to clickbait x.x
Always neuter/spay your animals... It's insane not to. They are healthier and live longer
Not all vets will neuter small animals, but if you have small animals it's not hard to be responsible and keep separate males from females OR just choose between owning males or females.
If you won dogs or cats; is no excuses, especially if you have a female.
