ACTUAL Professional ICON tools you can find at HARBOR FREIGHT PART 2.
Save yourself a buck or two.
The chief professional long barrel air hammer.
Recently, on an episode over on the torque test channel, it was revealed that this air hammer not only looks the same but was made in the same factory and shares most of the same parts with the Mac tools mph1911. Only this thing has a different trigger mechanism. The Mac tools version? That things gonna set you back a crazy $399.99 while this chief costs a mere $140 retail.
DAMN, thats over a $250 savings just for knowing who actually makes it.

Those are really strong, but I'm on my fourth one in about 2 years. Luckily I purchase the extended warranty.
How is it “really strong” if you’re on the 4th one in 2 years?
@@jordenbronson8122 strong in power not strong in build quality
I've been running my Ingersoll Rand for at least 5 years without issue.
Had my Mac which is allegedly the exact same for 10 years still going strong never had a problem and i use it frequently guess it was worth the extra 200
I've been using mine for 2 years and never replaced it. Fulltime Subaru mechanic. Use air tool oil daily like the instructions say and you shouldn't have a problem. Can't see how you've gone through 4....
If harbor freight got into the tool truck business. It would destroy the big brands
That's a rubbish industry to get into. They don't care about that
Steel eagle absolutely correct
Nah, unless they came to the shop daily to replace the broken stuff many wouldn't buy. It's great for the home user or new guy to turning wrenches but for a pro who depends daily on his tool for heavy use they don't hold up
@@brandonbrown3600 I've been a mechanic for 28 years and all I own is harbor freight tools and haven't broke shit yet so🤷🏽🤷🏽
@@brandonbrown3600 idk so far haven't broken anything harbor freight things like snap on and sonic and all this other mumbo jumbo your just paying for the brand even though a exact product of a different brand can hold up the same or even better. People don't like to admit it but it's true
my dad bought a metal lathe from Harbor Freight, came to find out thatt it was sold under another brand name for 3 times the price. that was 25 yrs ago and its still going.
They sell lathes???
@@ernestocastellanos6446 Table top lathes yes
@Ernesto Castellanos yes I have one it's been going strong for 20 years. it's a big girl
@@ernestocastellanos6446 I have their stand alone 33 inch wood lathe and it’s surprisingly robust. Only $400 and obviously I’m not throwing any huge chunks of mahogany in there but it works a treat on small to mid sized lumber for most all your hobbyist needs!! Just go walk through a harbor freight sometime it’s surprising the scope of products they have!
“Save yourself a buck or 2”
More like a hundred or 2! Gotta love HF
Harbor freight’s prices are getting out rages these days
I cannot tell if you are meaning expensive or inexpensive. I know if you are meaning expensive you have never stepped foot on a tool truck.
Outrageous *
I got mine almost two years ago and it's the hardest hitting hammer in my shop. If what you're hitting doesn't move the bit usually winds up snapping, and those are Snap on.
Those right angle die grinders are the bees knees too. I've personally used some of them eight hours a day five days a week for months on end. Just put a few drops of oil in at the beginning of the day and they will last forever if you're only using them a few times a month.
I use them at work too, the head comes unscrewed, and I just loctite it and tighten it with a hammer🤷♂️
We have that chief air hammer and that thing is a beast
got a brand new IR for $150. Pup peppers
And probably came with the chisel set
one of their jacks is legit just a snap on re named for a fraction of the price
I bought that exact Daytona version from H-F at.less than 30% of the price of said Snap-On
They unstoppable now. Since they got the warranty on them.
HB is my go to hands down I love the Pittsburgh big ratchets, I brake tools and it's been going strong for two years now working on big CAT Engines
I absolutely love harbor freight! Takes a lil extra time researching the right brands and such but it is SO SO worth it! And the customer service is like Chick-fil-A level
When did they start doing "I work with my hands" hand models. The casting director nailed it.
Cute but these hands have fixed more expensive equipment than you can even fathom
Nothing beats my grandpa's scary air hammer. He gave it to me a few years ago. I have no idea how old it is, what brand it is, or what evil lurks within. All I know is that it breaks everything it touches and sounds like a dying dinosaur
Just because they're made in the same factory and "share the same parts" doesn't mean they're the same quality, not a MAC tools or brand name guy myself, but just stating that everything is made to cost and quality, grade A parts go to the customer that pays the highest, grade B to the lower paying customers and so on, thus they might look the same, might function the same, doesn't mean they're going to last the same, not yo mention Macs lifetime warranty compared to HF 90 days.
Buy once cry once.
I just can't believe there's people that take the time to wander around harbor freight's making videos like this
Torque Test Channel my gang. Thanks for mentioning them. Hope to see you in the comments. 🙏
Dude there are so many damn near the whole icon series
Cant go wrong with a good 1911
One of the most useful channel on CZcams
Glad you think so! Appreciate it!
I recently bought a cut off wheel from cornwell, then a coworker came up to me with his chief one and we spent an hour trying to find a difference, they were identical. Mine was $200, his was $60
Were y'all on the clock for that hour getting paid
Cornwell IS basically HF tools on a Cornwell truck
“BuT tHe TrUcK dOeSn’T cOmE tO yOu WhEn It NeEdS rEpAiReD” some snap on glazer
"BUT THE TRIGGER MAKES IT SO I CAN"T MAKE IT DO LIGHT TAPS!" - you went to an AIR HAMMER for _light taps?_ Pat pat pat.
Walking off a rounded rusty bolt. Makes it alot easier to start when you have trigger control. Rust belt things I guess
Only the snap on air hammer works nice, I’ve had matco, mac, and cornwell.
I'll second that. Air tools were about the only thing I bought from Snap On with the exception of a few specialty tools. They're worth the price!!
I absolutely LOVE this content! Keep it up! Thank you!!
I have a set of 1/2 inch drive impact sockets that have been beaten and abused for almost 20 years. Never broken one. Never rounded one out. Used them like a punch in a press. Beat them with a hammer, use a 3/4 drive adapter and put a 7 ft bar on it.....just about anything you can think of, I've done it.
Or get IR same price with chisel set
My dude out here doing God's work. My man.
I have the chief and have no problem feathering the trigger just did it today driving out a big truck wheel seal
I wonder if you can buy the mac trigger to fit to the chief
Knowing who makes stuff really can save money
Wish you did the same for tools here in Australia. And they do the same for TVs most run on Samsung and Panasonic parts. And the same for a lot of counterfeit shoes
Or you could spend about $40 more than that chief brand and get a nice Ingersol air hammer that's better than both the Mac and the chief.
I bought a high end IR air chisel from Grangers. My experience with IR air tools and had zero gripes sealed the deal
I don't mind harbor freight. It's a fun store!
I got one of those off a Matco truck for 60 bucks cuz some guy traded it in for a “better” one. It’s the only tool I’ve gotten off that truck that didn’t need to get sent back 3 times before I gave up and just got a refund. Pretty sickening actually 😂 harbor freight tools are just fine in a professional shop if you know what to look for.
This is where I now buy my new snap on ratchets wrenches and sockets.
Loving these vids.
I bought the cheif and my coworker bought the Mac. If I had to do it again, I would buy the Mac. The trigger on the cheif is awful.
LMAO yes the trigger is apparently uncontrollable but is it worth roughly $200?
@@GarnettTools when slipping off what you're hammering and can cost you more than that, yes
@@GarnettToolsfor someone with "tools" in your CZcams handle, you seem to grossly underestimate the value of a higher quality tool. When you use it every day, you understand it best.
ngl the 1911 in the mac tools part number might convince me.
It's definitely strong. The issue in a "professional setting" is actually the trigger. It's all or nothing, no sort of feathering, which is problematic in delicate areas.
That Chief air hammer is something I use almost daily, surprisingly great quality for the price
Instantly subscribed !
🙂👍
Those earthquake xt air impacts kick ass
I love all my icon stuff.
the trigger does suck, it's strong, but 9/10 times if you're trying to be precise relatively of course it kicks you away
a punch and a hammer makes light taps very exact.
Thx . I love HF and have never had major issues with anything that I bought. Many people don’t know how to use something or put it together.
You had me at 1911!!!
IF YOU EVER NEED GRINDER BLADES get the bauer brand blades w the red sticker, they’re black and red and they made the best blade i’ve used for cutting metal, they don’t break or wear down nearly as fast as the other brands and it’s around 10$ for a 10 pack of im not mistaken
That air hammer is beast mode!
Get the Ingersoll Rand air hammer. Way more powerful and reliable
I got the Big Chief. It works amazing, and I have used the crap out of it. I even stuck an 3/8" chisel bit in my knee with it. It when in my Knee like butter. That cost me $3200 at the hospital!
Thank you for these videos ❤
Glad you like them!
I learned a a very young age that most similar products are made in the same factories. Here’s another example: Caribou tumblers are literally made in the same factory as Yeti tumblers. They are the same in every way except the yeti tumblers get ruined in the dishwasher and the caribou ones don’t. Oh yeah, they’re 1/3 the price if not cheaper. That goes for the coolers too.
The may be made in the same factories, but that doesn't mean they are made of the same materials, processes, or tolerances. The "same factory" argument is just a sales gimmick 90% of the time.
Air hammers are awesome for knocking off rust scale on truck frames
It’s a good air hammer but snap on all day any day it’s just plain better and hits much harder.
Personal experience with it (since I use one everyday) it’s a good option and gets the job done the only down side to it sometimes unlike maco air hammer it isn’t as powerful so getting something like rivets out can be a challenge
It sucks actually

How are the harbor freight impact wrenches for breaking bolts?
Is that what you use for impact rivets
Shoot I bought probably the cheapest air hammer they had at Harbor freight I think maybe $30 at most 4 years ago! Now I'm not a pro mechanic just a diyer but have used it alot, not an issue! Just remember to oil it. Lol
had one and the entire front assembly broke off, only held on by a small flange that broke. Its only is the part that holds the bit. it needs to be way more material there. Used it three whole times
Bro love these vide
Got my air impact in the 80s from HB. They were mostly mail-order back then. Still works great even after my brother's abuse.
Good air hammer but way less useful when hammering softer to harder precisely.
Ok man, me as a professional Harbor Freight tool shopper, here’s a subscription!
The air hammer rips.
I have my own heavy equipment repair business and I buy all my air tools there as well a my welding equipment as well there tool are more reliable and are. High quality as well
I wonder why in the title they put tools (plural) when they only showcase one tool. You could save a lot of time by showcasing multiple tools and be brief whereas you can announce a longer video which explains in much more detail. This isn’t a hate comment I’m only saying this because I’ve watched similar shorts with the same format
I ran one for about four months and it broke on me, but I had warranty and got another and another at the end of the day. As long as your life does not depend on that tool and you can go to Harbor freight and get another one on warranty it’s worth it
Their earthquake impacts aren't bad, 1/2 is good, lacks a little UMPH compared to a snap on.
This got you a subscription
What’s a good air hammer for heavy duty diesel shop
Do they come with the same warranty and exchange policy
Decent tool but I snapped the barrel in half using it.
You'd have snapped the barrel of a snap-on too then.
I have the mac air hammer the new one and i can say its the same tool over all! I buy mac tools bc im a union millwright and use & abuse my tools daily! Ive got the best mac dealers in the tool game!! Truck had a deal on the kit with 3 brass tipped bits and 2 break an shakers plus a bunch of other bits. I buy there stuff bc of the service they provide me
Chief 4" extended cutoff is great. Chief angle grinder sucks though.
I get the Chief brand, they have a better warranty and tool replacement then going just through the store.
I have both. I have had zero issues out of my Mac in 5 years. Ya, it was like $400, but I also got it on a promo with around a10 peice chisel and accessory kit. So really around $300.
On my 4th chief now in 60 days of the 90 day return period. The quality control is absolutely shit. If this one doesn’t perform flawlessly I’m giving up. If I count my time and gas on 4-20 mile trips to town at over an hour a trip. I’m in this chief for over $300 aswell 🤦🏻♂️.
I just wanted a decent one to keep at home for occasional use. Guess I should’ve just retired my Mac and bought a new one for the shop.
The other thing that nobody puts enough emphasis on is that trigger. You don’t appreciate that better trigger design until you don’t have it anymore. The extra finesse of the Mac trigger makes it worth double the chief all day! All that power doesn’t mean shit if you can’t aim it/control it.
I’m not a tool truck fan boy, which is why I gave the chief a chance. There’s a lot of products on the trucks that are just rebranded. This……is not one of those!!!
I’m not sure if maybe the one I used was ran on low air .. it had no power .
I will have to give it a shot buy buying one and running it with my air compressor set up and if it feels differnt I’ll keep it , if it doesn’t I will return it .
Doyle fast adjust pliers are the same as Matcos.
Ingersoll Rand all the way. Take it apart, clean the debris from the factory, keep it lubed up and it'll last forever.
Have that chief air hammer it lasted me all of 6 months before the entire front mechanism blew out of it :(
I'll save you even more. Get the regular $15 Central Pneumatic one and never look back.
Snapon is the only air hammer worth buying.
its true its just as strong, but that different trigger mechanism makes it so you have no pressure control, just stop and go.
Most things are made by a handful of companies and just rebranded. 3 companies make up 70% of the car battery industry.
When you get to the top about 5 company's own everything you buy, see and use. It's just a subsidiary of a division of a blah blah blah.
Mac uses a geissele trigger.🤣🤣
I got a regular old craftsman air grandpa used it now I got it and still abuse it still works just fine 😊
THIS AIRHAMMER TRIGGER IS A LIGHT SWITCH. ON OR OFF. NO GOOD FOR WALKING BOLTS OUT
I have this exact have air hammer and it is very powerful but the trigger does suck it almost seems It's All or Nothing
It’s not bad but I just ended up going with an Ingersoll Rand
I need that.
Almost all of those air tools are the exact same as the big brand ones, with a different stamp on the casing.
That 14 dollar one is the exact same as the 100 dollar Mac one. Same internals and everything.
Buy the $14 one unless you use an air hammer a lot.
And here I spent $500 on my Snap-On
Been a year. No issues but dont use it daily only every couplr weeks but its a nice tool
i always go ingersol for any air tools
I thought i was the only one Lol
Love that air hammers power but damn does trigger suck
Harbor freights got SOME good tools some not so much
