This game had so much potential. A few more months given to the team could have made a huge difference…
No, it didn't, you don't know the full story. It was disasterous and Core's team was fractured and without direction. This was a time when Splinter Cell and MGS2 had already defined what stealth action shooters would look like, and Core didn't know what direction to take Lara so they mashed concepts without the time or budget to get anything right. Eidos needed to give them years more, not months.
AOD doesn't need a full trilogy. It just needs a more complete remake that keeps all of the original content and story. It should also take notes from the AOD audiobook by J.R. Millward.
It does need a trilogy. We need more Lara and Kurtis

Oh my god...this game had SOO MUUCH POTENCIAL, this is MASTERPIECE. Listen to me and the fans #squareenix : instead of making a game in which girl hate tombs do a Tomb Raider with Lara Croft in main role and do a remake of TRAOD. This is what would be a PERFECT PRESENT for Tomb Raider community for #TR25 .
Please, remake this masterpiece.... you can take all the time needed...

I watched the interview of some of Core creators and they did a really good job, working very long hours. With the unreasonable time limits for release, technical challenges of new PS2 beta hardware, budget constraints and management problems it was tough. The team started off with 12 people and ended up with 45 and still was under staffed. It appears there was little to no time for QA testing to fix problems before release and PS2 had no means for a post launch update patches as we are accustomed to today. AOD deserves a full remake.

I love Tomb Raider games and I have played all of them, but I have to say that this one is the worst of all of them, without a doubt.
You're talking out your backside. Worst Tomb Raider are the Survivor trilogy games
From a technical standpoint, TRAOD may have had better atmosphere and a better story, but had godawful controls, questionable gameplay choices and bugs up the wazoo. The Survivor games have more solid gameplay and design, but lacked the 'soul' you'd find in the Core Design games, and even the Legends trilogy.
