- Storm Eunice hits Porthcawl Friday morning but nothing stops the old gits from having their morning coffee on Porthcawl seafront, not even a storm ‘Red Warning’ for extreme weather.
The storm waves start hitting Porthcawl pier early in the morning shortly before high tide just after 7am. For some scale, the lighthouse at the end of the pier is about 30 feet tall.
Mumbles, across Swansea Bay from Porthcawl, recorded a gust of 87mph and a lorry on the M4 motorway near Porthcawl was blown over.

We do get nice weather (sometimes) - "Sunny Porthcawl" czcams.com/video/mBqIDBPCF1c/video.html
I'm so happy you've done a video with our job on the pier in it. Our red water bowser and Harris fencing. Scaffolding along the waves. You captured a memory for me, forever. I've loved every minute on that pier drilling 7m holes and installing a heavy duty grout and metal bar to preserve it for another 100 years. Fantastic
Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic and furthermore the sound was great :)
Thanks, it's amazing what a £49 mic can do.
I did Panto at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl just a few weeks ago. I loved walking along the prominade when it was stormy, but I don't think I'd have gone out in that!
We live just down the road from the Pavilion. Yes, it was windy on that Promenade, very windy! Saying that, it's pretty bad tonight!
@@flydriveexplore I loved doing Panto there in December/January. Even though we got cancelled early due to the new resrictions - it gave me time to see the place and surrounding areas. Such a gorgeous location, and lovely people! I especially liked Sotuherndown Beach, I found a fossil!
Lovely part of the world! Have had some lovely times in Porthcawl although the weather was always sunny whenever I’ve been
Yep, dramatic but not ideal holiday weather.
Thank you for reminding me of my childhood!
Yes, running from the waves on the prom
@@flydriveexplore I didn't run, I just got drenched! I remember laying against the wind and being sprayed by the sea one day. We were going visiting in Maesteg and we'd had a bath and hair wash the night before. Our hair looked like rats tails, mother wasn't impressed!
Fantastic video Marcus, not the morning for sitting outside Piccolo having coffee 😀
We did try but they were closed!
Nice documentary :)
Thank you!
Yep, there were days when I drove along that road and rocks the size of melons had landed as far as the middle of the road.
Damn.
I miss Porthcawl.
It was surprisingly clear the next day considering the storm. Windy again today.
That wind is certainly causing havoc.stay safe.great photos for sure.
There's another storm today, 3 in under a week. But this time it's not directly affecting us, still windy though.
Yes i remember weather like this as a child and we were never was told to stay at home.😉
Yep, I was still being sent to school and forced to play rugby in 50 mph winds!
I was thinking of popping down.but something distracted me. May be coffee and custard creams......
It was brutal here in Bridgend as well without the sea spraying rocks everywhere.
The waves were big but surprisingly there wasn't that much of a storm surge.
@@flydriveexplore I could see that. The sea defenses looked very clear after the storm passed. I was expecting them to be littered with debris.
Welsh police: 'Stay indoors. Do not go outside to take pictures.'
Everyone in Wales: Grabs camera, heads out.
It's Porthcawl, that's still picnic weather for most of us.
Funny to see that and the sun peeking thru. We heard you clearly. I don’t understand people walking their dogs in such weather.
Yes, that little dog and his owner just missed a big wave. Don't think the dog was too impressed by the weather.
Although probably stupid, had I lived nearer the coast I'd have probably gone out myself to capture some video and maybe a few images ha! In Gloucestershire we had a lot of beautiful light and clear-ish skies but oh boy that wind!
If you know the area, it's not dangerous where the photographers were. It looks close to the sea on images but it pretty safe. Yes, it was unusual to get that weather with relatively clear skies.
Came through Cumbria 10am - 1pm
Storm number 3 is going on at the moment
Interesting video 🤨
It was really bad in Porthcawl. I hope my caravan is OK
Haven't heard reports of damaged caravans, best ring the site.
We were going down today. but weather is still bad today 😫
Flipping Eck Marcus - Storm Eunice took a right hammering down there!
Yep, but the regulars were still out for their coffee. By the way, I put the RODE £49 microphone through its paces, seemed to have done well in 80mph winds.
@@flydriveexplore That's good going!
Definitely a day for staying indoors wrapped up warm with a couple of Jumbo sausages, chips, and endless cups of tea with a packet or two of hobnobs for dunking while watching episodes of Midsomer Murder or some such escapist TV.
Tea, biscuits and some Classic Dr Who episodes (when they just walked around an old quarry).
Your a storm chaser now boyo your insurance just went up (having fun with the elements)
Mel's checking the policy as we speak.
Fascinating footage thankyou so much. I was watching via the live cam and the screen shot I took looked like the side profile of Donald Trump' s face 😂 I kid you not.
Both produce a lot of wind and chaos.
