  • Storm Eunice hits Porthcawl Friday morning but nothing stops the old gits from having their morning coffee on Porthcawl seafront, not even a storm ‘Red Warning’ for extreme weather.
    The storm waves start hitting Porthcawl pier early in the morning shortly before high tide just after 7am. For some scale, the lighthouse at the end of the pier is about 30 feet tall.
    Mumbles, across Swansea Bay from Porthcawl, recorded a gust of 87mph and a lorry on the M4 motorway near Porthcawl was blown over.

    I'm so happy you've done a video with our job on the pier in it. Our red water bowser and Harris fencing. Scaffolding along the waves. You captured a memory for me, forever. I've loved every minute on that pier drilling 7m holes and installing a heavy duty grout and metal bar to preserve it for another 100 years. Fantastic

    I did Panto at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl just a few weeks ago. I loved walking along the prominade when it was stormy, but I don't think I'd have gone out in that!

      We live just down the road from the Pavilion. Yes, it was windy on that Promenade, very windy! Saying that, it's pretty bad tonight!

      @@flydriveexplore I loved doing Panto there in December/January. Even though we got cancelled early due to the new resrictions - it gave me time to see the place and surrounding areas. Such a gorgeous location, and lovely people! I especially liked Sotuherndown Beach, I found a fossil!

      @@flydriveexplore I didn't run, I just got drenched! I remember laying against the wind and being sprayed by the sea one day. We were going visiting in Maesteg and we'd had a bath and hair wash the night before. Our hair looked like rats tails, mother wasn't impressed!

    Yep, there were days when I drove along that road and rocks the size of melons had landed as far as the middle of the road.
    Damn.
    I miss Porthcawl.

    I was thinking of popping down.but something distracted me. May be coffee and custard creams......
    It was brutal here in Bridgend as well without the sea spraying rocks everywhere.

    • @flydriveexplore

      The waves were big but surprisingly there wasn't that much of a storm surge.

      @grahamecarter Před 2 lety

      @@flydriveexplore I could see that. The sea defenses looked very clear after the storm passed. I was expecting them to be littered with debris.

    Although probably stupid, had I lived nearer the coast I'd have probably gone out myself to capture some video and maybe a few images ha! In Gloucestershire we had a lot of beautiful light and clear-ish skies but oh boy that wind!

    • @flydriveexplore
      @flydriveexplore  Před 2 lety

      If you know the area, it's not dangerous where the photographers were. It looks close to the sea on images but it pretty safe. Yes, it was unusual to get that weather with relatively clear skies.
