    Very nice. There's so many people who complain of their reliability and costs, but none of those that I've spoken to are owners. Sure I know it will be expensive if/when something breaks but they seem very reliable and mostly only need wear and tear items.

    Nice update. Love the lobster claws. I picked a 07 S earlier this year and love driving it whenever I get a chance. Got mine in a super rare color, dark teal metallic (lago green). Such an amazing car to drive and underrated for how capable it is.

    I remember watching your 1 year ownership review back in 2017 and it convinced me to purchase my Silver 06 987 S. Great car, aged very well, and still a head turner to this day. I've since upgraded to a 2015 981 base in grey. Also a beautiful car which seems to be maintaining its value according to cargurus price trends but with more creature comforts, softer suspension for the Mrs., and better fuel economy. I also don't miss wondering if my 987 was unlocked lol. Thanks for the content.

    Your videos were among those I watched doing research and I got myself a 987 Cayman S about 3 years ago. Glad you're still loving yours. I'm LOVING mine. Mine is only driven once or twice a week, and like you, nothing has really gone wrong with it (yet). Here in Australia, values have crept up a little, and I've just renewed my insurance for more $10K (AUD) More than the last renewal. Thanks so much for sharing.

      Yest, they act like“ graters” for your brake bands, unless you’re regularly tracking the car, slotted rotors will do just fine.

    Hello Josh from England ....excellent review of your stylish machine. I have a cobalt blue 2006 S with 55k on it. Interesting point about disc scoring...thanks for that. My gear linkage failed too on my way to hospital for a radiotherapy session but I forgave it as it was stuck in 1st gear so I still made the appointment🤯. My advice is change the plugs and get the coil packs replaced....take a look and you’ll see they crack. Subscribed, so don’t sell it yet😂.

    Surprised you did not get the Bose system. I’d though it was standard for all S models. From what I understand, S models come with red brake callipers, twin exhaust, six speed manual and Bose.

    Love the video, I am thinking about getting rid of my 18 Merc C43 for a used manual Cayman. One suggestion, can you please include prices of items? ie. Maintenance cost, brakes, cost of dealership visit for repairs. This will really help those of use looking budget. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • @PaulLukeBonenfant
      @PaulLukeBonenfant Před 3 lety +2

      Most major expenses like brakes and other engine items are over $1,000 at the dealer, a little less at an Indy. Major problems on these m96/97 engines can occur, but once they’re sorted, these are tremendously reliable. And, SUPRR FUN! These are appreciating, but so are the 996, and faster.

    • @JoshHway
      @JoshHway  Před 3 lety +1

      Good suggestion. I can do that. I do most of the maintenance myself, so labor cost is all me. I buy most of my parts from www.suncoastparts.com/category/Cayman1.html so you can price out items there. Only thing I bring my car to the dealership for is annual inspections and for when my shift linkage went out.

      DYI parts are cheap if you know what to look for. Porsche uses Pierburg pumps
      I got mine for 187 euro. which is WAY cheaper then Porsche, pump in the box was EXACTLY the same as the one that came out
      cold thermostat was 80 euros
      6 spark plugs € 57.06
      6 new Bosch Coil packs (the housings disintegrate after 10 or so years) 200 euro in a promotion, real knuckle buster job this one.
      new Bosch Rotors and pads front axle was 230 euro.. (and they held up really well on track days at spa, Ring and Le Mans
      Dealers are ripping you off for these things, friend did water pump, they quoted him 800 euro all in with 2 hours quoted
      he dropped off the car, when he went back "oh we had some more work, quoted him 6 hours work, and it was 1400 euro
      I , a DIY home mechanic, no bridge, I did it in 4 hours. for 270 euro including a new thermostat.
      These cars aren't difficult to work on either. The mid engine sometimes requires a different approach, but once you figure it out, it's very doable
      Be religious about changing the oil.. I swap mine every 5000 km or every year, which ever comes first (the kms in my case).
      People can debate what oil to put in, i think the frequency is way more important then what brand .
      I just stick to mobil 1 0w40 because that's the default, and because mine burns 0 oil on 5000 km, so why change if it works.
      get the magnetic oil plug
      Don't be surprise that it catches crud on the first change : that's stuff floating in the sump since it left the factory !!
      Subsequent changes my magnetic oil plug cleared up completely !
      Let em warm up properly, temp on the water gauge is not the temp of the oil
      my rule is, drive 3k revs till the temp goes off the peg.. then 4k revs for 40C 5k revs for 50C 6K revs for 80C
      Redline only if it has been at operating temp for at least 10 minutes
      And drive the car, these cars don't like standing still
      Mine rarely stays parked for longer then 3 days
      once warmed up.. Don't shy the revs.. they are meant to spin, especially the 2.7

    Prices on 987.1 and .2 are going up. I just looked at a 2008 Cayman S with 34k miles on it at a Porsche Dealer in Boston for $40,000. I have been watching them creep up lately. The .2 are getting into the 50k range for the S models and the .1 models are getting up into the mid 40k range. The Carrera market went crazy the past year, and with base 996 models going for 40-50k and 977 models going really high, it’s only normal for these to creep up right behind them.

    Like the wrap, unusual but fits the car well, don’t like the wrap on the mirrors though, little too much to my taste.
