- The world's largest democratic election has kicked off as people in India head to the polls.
Voting for the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, will continue until June 1st. Nearly a billion eligible voters up and down the country are casting their ballots in seven phases. The voting is staggered to give election officials and security personnel time to move around the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a third term in office. Polls suggest he and his Hindu-nationalist BJP are on course to win another landslide. Adored by his supporters, some Indians say his policies have bred intolerance and are threatening India's secular roots.

Hinduism has 3 core cultural aspects: a belief in a large world, locla traditions and use of indo-european languages.
Modi turning the country into a dictatorship is not for hindus or for India as a while, it is only good for Modi himself, and in the future it will just mean your voices won't be heard.

India too is new to democracy and has a low rate of educated population who have a good enough information literacy to not be misled by party-lobbying medias, and currently it only relies on the hope of diversity preventing a dictatorship forming, which alone is insufficient. Therefore I urge you to lobby for education, information literacy, academic and media freedom and the formation of civil groups that can preserve diversity and serve as a net against authoritarianism.

India’s democracy is legitimate and strong. Term limits would be a good idea to prevent entrenched power but I haven’t seen any solid evidence of unfair election practices so far. As an American, I have a good opinion of Modi. Modi can be religious himself while the Indian governmental state remains secular.

Chiertigj did a good job of rationally explaining things. He did stress that the economy fared well during Modi and at the same time he talked about the Hindutva ideology. Also, he dismissed the idea of dictatorship and said it out loud that the electoral process is ''free and fair''.
The Western audience will never be able to grasp that Nationalism, Secularism, Democracy and Development and go hand in hand only in India and no other country in the world.
