I worked in the Indian embassy in Estonia for exactly one day, left in tears lol. One of the things I did wrong was referring to Modi as... well, Modi. Got yelled at and called an imbecile. Apparently I should have said something like his excellency the high and mighty blah blah blah Narendra Modi. The ambassador was like "do you refer to your own president just by his name?" and I kind of stared at him and said "yes, cause... that's his name" to which he said maybe it's a cultural difference cause "india is a country of very high culture" unlike estonia clearly lmao. It sucked at the time, but looking back I can see it was an interesting experience and makes for a fun anecdote. Anyway, I just felt this tiny vindictive sense of satisfaction every time John said "Modi" hahaa.

Orban is famously the only leader in the EU who sucks Putin's dick, but he stays in power because he took over public media and turned them into his propaganda station. Same thing happened in Turkey. Hungarian and former Polish gov attack on judges and justice system is the source of inspiration for Natenyahu taking over courts. They all meet regularly, albeit without Putin.
It's all especially confusing because they mostly have little connection internationally. Orban played with Putin, but further integration with EU would be better for Hungary, but worse for Orban. Often they have conflicting interests, because everybody is about muh nationalism, but they like each other's ways to subjugate country system under the rule of a single person.

As someone living in India and using VPN to watch this episode, I can agree with almost all of what John Oliver said about India and its leadership in this show. And the sad reality is most of Indians are enjoying the fact that India is becoming a Hindu nationalist country compared to the pluralistic ideology its forefathers wished for.
To hope for change within India is hopeless as most of population is brain washed but someday I hope this madness ends.

There's a saying in Polish that if you sit on cold surface, you catch a wolf, but literal translation won't help you find the meaning here. There's no right or wrong here, there's just you putting your cultural lense over another language from separate culture, with different history and everything.
Btw., civilisation in India started 9000 (nine thousand) years ago, was one of the earliest in the world, their oldest dynasty is from 500 BCE. Just please accept for a fact that someone from the US is not going to understand how it all works, so listen to locals instead of preaching your interrelation.
