Is this why we can now watch full episodes outside the US? So that Ilgar can show this episode to his family and friends?
All is Ilgar
@@miramosa7768 Ilgar is love
@@danielhakamaki7678 Ilgar is life
And more ad renevue, of course. But mainly because of Ilgar and friends
Oh my god. I think you cracked the case
First of all, i want to thank John and all the crew for this cool opportunity for my father🙏🏻This been a great experience for him and it's an honour to meet John. I wish you could know my father a little bit closer, you'll love him a lot more. I'm so proud of you, dad❤️🥰 It's only begining 🙏🏻😎🔥
omg Ilgar is your dad?! Wow, that's so cool.
@@firelunamoon Yes, he is 🥰 I'm so proud of him, he is such a kind person. I swear, you'll love him more if you know him better🥰
Wow, from harrowing stories of torturous methods of killing to finding some random guy from across the world just to take a photo with him, this man has range.
Right? I mean... he's no Ilgar, but he's still pretty good.
@@temperededge Lol best comment
@@temperededge Made me snort my coffee all over my keyboard, so ... well done, you beautiful person you.
This is the shortest range yet. He has insane collabs and shit 😂
It's not some random man, it's Ilgar ! Show some respect for the Il-guy !
The Ilgar bit hard me grinning so much and in happy tears. There's so much in being able to feel simple joy like that.
A much better ending than 50 clowns on unicycles, that's for sure, and a much more heartwarming waste of HBO's money. I have to say, however, that they could make stock photography a main story in the sense that the photographers generally make a lot less money than the companies for whom they are essentially freelancing. . .
Ilgar Business Jesus gives me life.
Unsung heroes of our everyday lives.......on the internet...
Actually, I'm the photographer (Elnur Amikishiyev) in whose portfolio Ilgar is being featured. This has been a fantastic story for Ilgar - from posing for stock photos, and eventually ending up in Americas popular evening show.
I cried a single tear of joy whenever he was revealed in the end XD
the immediate shot of serotonin that comes from hearing john oliver say "and the reason I know that is..." >>>>>
yesssssssssssssss
Ilgar is such a legend he casually buttons up with only one hand.
He is probably a dad!
@@NyanyiC Or porn star.
It's not his first time 😅
LOL, good eye.
This is definitely not as easy as it looks.
@@NyanyiC Or porn star.
Ilgar deserves that ovation for real. Sometimes it just take some (or hundreds of) silly photos to make millions of people happy
Or thousands!
we need internet power to make that guy into a meme, so he can become truly famous! I bet there is content for that, we just need to dig into 20000+ pictures
If the Sims has taught me anything, it's that as long as Ilgar remembers to shower and sleep enough and doesn't outright skip work, we can expect to see him on a fashion week runway in like... eight to twelve weeks.
@@EngineerAAJit's a very good idea😍
I love the shot Ilgar about to stab a cabbage and John rushing to save it.
Thats some high quality fan service/easter egg. ❤
Yeah I noticed that too. That cabbage is John's true love.
This image will be so hard to explain to someone in a few years.
John really went overboard in terms of wasting business daddy money with Ilgar appearance.
That wasn't a waste, it was the height of the show! 😂
lmao thats nothing for the company lol.
Worth every penny. It's the bait that keeps all of us coming back. Money well invested...
Ilgar prolly appreciated the vacation and 'exposure'.
Probably changed Ilgar’s entire life and maybe even generations to come.
HBO executives: Why are we flying this random man from Azerbaijan and doing all the VISA paper work for him? You know what, don't answer that, I don't even want to know.
I wonder how much could John’s staff get away with. “We need to make the biggest cake on record. Proving a point to a dictator.”, “we need a wedding veil. For a cabbage”, “yes, the quartet of squirrels is coming here. It’s for the musical”
why did you capitalise "visa"? you're not talking about the credit card company.
@@2007excalibur2007 Well, it is an acronym, and those are often capitalized...
@@2007excalibur2007 VISA is short for : "Visitors International Stay Admission", so it needs to be capitalized. So maybe do some research beforehand ?!
@@mickcollins1921it's not, though. it's a loanword, anyone telling you it's an acronym is a sham.
The Ilgar segment was a really nice, goofy, positive note to end such a heavy episode on. Thanks for singing the praises of these unsung heroes, including the people on your staff working behind the scenes!
imagine being the cool grandpa agreeing to pose on photos for your grandson's online enterpenuership, only to end up shaking hands with johnn oliver a couple of years later
I hope Ilgar had the time of his life in NYC.
I bet they spoiled him
He did. I'm Elnur, I own the portfolio where Ilgar features. A dream come true - posing for stock photos in Azerbaijan, and ending up in America's popular evening show.
@@aboutmicrostockOH MY IT'S REALLY YOU!
I hope for the best for you and Ilgar in the future!
@@aboutmicrostock Congratulations to you both! Most people don't understand how much work can go into a stock photo.
@@aboutmicrostock No way :O
I sure hope Ilgar had a great time in New York. Finally an episode that mildly removes the depression from the main story.
Its amazing how in only 10 minutes of the episode John Oliver was able to establish Ilgar as the rightful legend that he is and having this beautiful happy ending was such a satisfying an emotional pay off that most movies Ive seen in my life could not achieve on such a high level in over one and a half hours of runtime...well done!
He is not a legend
@@NT-lq3lq OK Debbie Downer
Back in my high school days, I watched John Oliver so much that I started writing my analytical essays in the style of how John Oliver talks. It actually got me higher grades on my essays 😂
Sarcastic Brit is always a good tone for essays 😂
@@mavicityrelayson2924Sarcastic Brit is the best tone _always_
Moving on, our main topic concerning this essay....
"Brazil, a country you think of so infrequently, you didn't even realize that's not Brazil, that's Peru. Except no, that's really Chile, and THIS is Brazil. Peru is over HERE." Probably not gonna get you far tho.
@@olbaze maybe not in an essay, but in a presentation? Top marks
The lawyers for this episode: “Yes, okay, you can say explicitly that what the government did here is against the Constitution. It’s not that like we haven’t slept since you offerered to bribe a Supreme Justice into retirement.”
🤣🤣🤣 I wonder if Clarice has RSVP'ed yet.
which episode is this?
@abrlim5597 there was a recent episode about the Supreme Court, it's quite easy to scroll to it (and it was the first full episode uploaded to their channel btw, like a month ago)
To be a fly on the wall at Absolute Standards when they hear about this. :D
Short ! Short ! Short ! :D

Thank you Last Week Tonight team for ending with the Ilgar segment to lighten the mood after the very heavy death penalty segment.
Ilgar is even more photogenic in motion. What a pro!
Absolute Standards: "We have the final solutions."
Sooo dark... and exactly the thing I was thinking when I saw that slogan. :P
Whiplash from tone shift, check! Pain from smiling too much at the end, check! Happiness about this show existing = THROUGH THE ROOF!
Bringing Ilgar from Azerbaijan just to take a few photos is the kind of randomness I watch your show for
Thank you thank you! The Ilgar bit was hilarious!
I would have completely lost the slow fastest dogs and the heartwarming Ilgar star existence if the show was not available in CZcams in it's entirety! How much have I missed! Thanks John Oliver and HBO for this!
The ability this show has to lead me from complete despair to complete joy is amazing.
So wholesome that you flew Ilgar to the States to praise him and take photos. I bet that was a great memory for him and made his day, reminds me of the Hide The Pain Harold guy who got famous and got to experience great moments in his later years.
Thank you so much for the Ilgar segment 😍 - it made me inexplicably happy, especially after the depressing executions segment!
after such an important but seriously depressing main story for the staff to work on the Ilgar bit was well deserved bit of light entertainment not only for those watching but i am sure the staff as well, sure stressfull getting the visa but it must have been nice to work on something they knew they could actually complete.
This is an episode for the ages. Not only a great coverage of a horrific topic, but a great way of ending the episode so viewers can end up with a smile
That was a ridiculously wholesome end with Ilgar. I cried a little T_T

I feel like this episode will lead to a Legal Eagle video by the end of the week
The LWT SLAPP suit piece is what introduced me to Legal Eagle so hopefully he'll discuss it more in detail.
Not likely. A practising lawyer might have to work with these insane people.
@@jii. I think he has already discussed some of john Oliver's content, so he could do it for this piece, especially the part about the supplier of lethal injections

Helium John Oliver is canon now. He sounds even more offensively British than normal voice John, for some reason :D :D :D
John Oliver + helium = David Beckham

Also the Canadian President in South Park
For me he sounds a lot like Eric Idle from Monthy Python

John and the team really go all out to do something objectively funny and i love em for it
The Ilgar bit restored my faith in humanity 😂
Just as this episode went up, japan got hit with a 5.1 earthquake.
A moment of silence for the spilled coffees.
You know a 5.1 is still powerful, right? Not all earthquakes have to be at 9.0 or higher to be either damaging or dangerous.
@@Plexippuspetersi92 there’s an abundance of memes made in and outside of japan about how casually many Japanese react about earthquakes of this calibre. including this one
@@Plexippuspetersi92 I actually live in Japan. Anything below 6 is not even small talk worthy.
We had literally a thousand earthquakes in the past 5 days here in Taiwan
@@Plexippuspetersi92 Most of Chile's and Japan's are in deep subduction zones so less energy reaches the surface, and strong constructions codes makes them much less damaging.
As a stock photo provider for the art community, that ending bit made me so happy. Omg much love to all the fellow photographers and models out there!
Why is the last bit so touching? We don’t know Ilgar and yet this took us on a little emotional roller coaster 😂

The warm and fuzzy feelings that I needed to start this week!

I loved that last segment with Ilgar. Fantastic way to end the episode
The Ilgar Piece is gold! The photos at the end of the episode and especially the one with the cabbage made me burst out laughing
The end of this episode was really heartwarming in some strange way. 😄
John: Production i need some more budget.
Producer: For what now?
John: Ohh, not much, track someone randomly from Aseirbajan, get them through the interview process at the embassy, pay his visa and expenses in travel all that to have him in 1st week of april to take a photo with him. Ahhh by the way, we could have just photoshoped the whole thing but that sounds cheap.

So what?

Well, if this show isn't award winning material, don't know what is! Brilliant show John Oliver.
The Kennel club video was sorely needed. And the Ilgar bit... John Oliver knows how to take care of his viewers; that's all I say 😀
When it comes to stock photos , the king is Harold Hide The Pain - András Arató.

I just reviewed the slideshow and gahdamn Ilgar’s facial expression. Man can act. Maybe an Azerbaijan Mr. Bean?
Thank you very much! I appreciate that ☺️❤
ILGAR MY GOATTT!!!!!! I HAVE INDEBTED TO HIM TO HIS ALL STOCK PHOTOS 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yay for Ilgar! I can imagine how he felt: honoured, yet bewildered, as a crowd cheers him on while a man he's never seen before asks him questions in a language he isn't familiar with.
Absolute stellar reporting. When the curtain dropped and Ilgar was standing there I nearly cried.
The stock photo bit was absolutely hilarious. Perfect definition of burning money just for fun.
The fact that they use their own team to take the most outrageous stock photos is hilarious lmao good sports

Thanks for the dogs slow motion videos.
My dog died a week ago. He was only 11 years old and looked so healthy and active.
We need it Ilgar after the main topic. It's so balanced that, for a brief moment, I enjoyed not having the same death penalty issue in my country. But I remembered that we have so much more problems that made me need to see that Ilgar photoshoot again.
The photo op there at the end is PRICELESS! Absolutely an episode in and of itself. Thank you!!! Thank you to which ever gods made these episodes come out full and free on CZcams for Ukraine. Thank you; this is humanitarian aid in my humble opinion.
this is the best use of that HBO money. i can't think of a single thing that would make my day better than seeing Ilgar today. thank you John Oliver
How to talk about the horrors of the death penalty and leave the audience smile at the end of the episode. I'm very much with you on both accounts, LWT. And believe I've also used stock photos with Ilgar...
Dude, calling out Absolute Standards, stirring shit up is an understatement. I was both laughing my ass off and so proud of John and the team for this one. 👏👏
I really like this journalistic deep dive into this topic - very much still in line with "Stirring shit up"
The helium bit deserves a spot in this show’s highlight reels forever 😂
I'm very glad to have seen the entirety of this episode.
this is my weekly reminder that the USA is an empire in decadence, love it!
what an incredible way to end the show... rly brought me what i can only describe as joy!
The ending is so wholesome! Just what we needed after the topic of death sentences. I shed a tear. Not at the horrible deaths, but a the poorly English talking man standing and getting a minute of fame.
