Who is still listening to this beautiful song in 2024???
Years to come too
I feel ashamed of admitting it, but I discovered this song a few days ago and cannot spend one day without listening to it since.
Jesus. Not another throwback year comment...

18 years old and appreciating the good times is what I'm doing
Who’s still listening in April 2024? Tomorrow, April 14, is 45 years ago they hit #1 on Billboard charts. I was about to graduate from high school. ❤
Did you see the charismatic voice do it? I think she’s bringing this around again, bless her heart.

The ultimate "friend zone" song.
People don't understand the level of this dude to be playing that double keyboard and also being able to sing like this he is a master of the master of the master of his craft
Bullshit
Sin duda ninguna...
When something comes quite naturally to an individual, this is what can happen... just have to find what comes to each of us
My neighbor dave kogler was called nickname cowboy he was a Vietnam vet
@Bobcat 843 that's awesome when I was in the Army my nickname was rooster because of that song from Alice in Chains and I was from Seattle and it's about a Vietnam vet.
It’s 1981 and I am seven years old.
My father is driving me in his 1974 stepside Dodge pick up truck and he’s taking me to his favorite fishing grounds in Los Angeles right outside the Marina del Rey jetties just next-door to Venice.
This beautiful melody comes on the radio, and I can see my dad following along singing softly as he is shifting the three speed lever on the column of the truck while he’s holding a beer in his hand 😅
My father has been long gone after that but every time I hear this beautiful melody. I am taking back straight to that beautiful afternoon driving in my dad’s truck as the sunsets. Things are not too bad.. but I do miss my father.
It warms my heart to read your wonderful warm thoughts about your father and his voice singing. I am 81, never had any parental love but survived because of the care of others. This one of my favourite songs. Cheers from OZ 🇦🇺🇦🇺

I can personally relate to this masterpiece! When this song came out I of course bought the album and me and my girlfriend, a beautiful playboy bunny listened to it often. She wound up marrying a rich real estate dude but I tried to delude myself into thinking she would return to me, the guy who took her to see Johnny Mathis at the Concord Pavilion. I was a fool. Of course she never returned but life goes on. I enjoyed seeing y'all in concert twice! Like Spock said:"Live long and prosper!" GBY. Jim
I hope that you find happiness in your life❤
This is music not the crap they play these days. Can't wait to see them in concert😊!
The early 2010's called, they want their "le wrong generation" comments back.
Michael McDonald vocal performance in this live is crazy good, you can sense the quality and the power of his range. One of the best male voices of all time in my opinion.
His harmonies on Steely Dan’s Peg are gorgeous.

Mr.McDonald, thank you for linguistic art you gave us in this song! 🙏🏻 many people don't realize in this video, how much work you're doing here! 😂 like he's hitting every note, while flawlessly going to town on that keyboard! Great song! Bravo sir! 😂👏👏
(This is coming from someone born decades after this performance)
Agreed
We from Little Italy I love what a fool believes
this guy has so much soul it's unbelievable
Mikey MickDee Kenny Loggins used more chords in the chorus than most artists use in their whole songs these days, but they combine with that key change and sound like they are a no-brainer to be there. Fugging flawless.
Always the Doobie Brothers have been bluesy, jazzy, soulful and there just isn't that musicianship anymore, so still listening to music of my youth.
Absolutely one of my most favorite songs may 2024
I am 65 and still young at heart
Earth was formed somewhere not to long ago,
The Mk ultra fools don't see,
Tryin' hard to Procreate,
What had yet to be created, all of this life,
did i muster a smile,
For my biblical tale,
Never coming near what I wanted to say,
Only to realize,
Globe never really was,
God, should have a place in your life,
the bible, never made you think twice,
jesus rises from deaths doorstep,
Anybody else would surely know,
He's watching us sin,
But what a fool believes, he reads,
No NASA man has the power, to reason away,
Earth seems, to be,
Is always better than Big Bangs,
There's nothing at all?
keep sending love.
Somewhere back in Time long ago,
Where you can still believe there's a God who made life,
Someday, somewhere, Jesus will return,
God should have a place in your life,
the bible never made you think twice,
jesus rises from deaths doorstep,
Anybody else would surely know,
He's watching us sin,
But what a Fool believes, he reads,
No NASA man has the power, to reason away,

They do not make music like the good ole days.
You are listening to it. Do you want them to do a 2024 remake. It's other songs from the 70's and 80's that sound good like this as well. Get yourself a Ipod or some type of mp3 player a load up. No need to think about or listen to music that's coming out from 2000 to present time. I listen to Dancing in the Moonlite almost everyday the one by King Harvest. The other one sounds like S***.
That's right, Zoomers. People used to actually have musical talent and play real instruments. Suck on it, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.
Then they gotta put real instruments back into the schools.

There’s not many songs that the very first time you hear it you fall in love with it. For me this was one.
Me too! Even thought I was too young to even understand the lyrics, I could tell the melody and harmonics and MM's voice really hit my heart and never left. It is so difficult to name a "favorite" song there have been so many awesome rock songs in my life, but this one ... never fails to make me fall to pieces, takes me back to when I was so young but still remember that weird feeling in my heart the first time I heard this. If I had to name the best song ever (other than classical) it would be this one. I am not even sure why.

There is good music, then there is timeless hits like this
He's singing, playing piano and synthesizer all at the same time.
That's some feat.
The man's a musical genius...one of a kind
Lots of practice
That's how it was done back in the day.
Sorry Its Tom He Is The Doobie .Dont Like This Guy ,
Way back in the day, McDonald was a first call studio musician so playing 2 keyboards at the same time would not be much of a problem for him. However, this song is especially difficult for keyboardists to play since the tricky piano riffs with tricky hand positions are constant throughout right to the end. And then he's still able to add in synth/strings keyboard in the left hand while playing the tricky right hand riffs *AND* singing it perfectly. That's some serious talent.
Michael is one of the GOATs. He has one of the most recognizable voices in music. Lead singer for the Doobie Brothers but his solo career, collaborations, & background vocals are equally as legendary. "I Keep Forgettin" is right up your alley. You'll know the melody in a heartbeart.
Great that you appreciate his phenomenal talents.
He is definitely a remarkable person!!❤💯

At 70 years of age, I continue to be amazed by this song. In my opinion, it's one of the most stunning songs ever written or performed. I can't imagine how this song was ever even conceived. Masterpiece. My hat's off to the Doobie Brothers. This is a perfect song. Perfect vocals! Perfect musicians! Some can copy, but none will be better!
I am listening because songs like this just don't exist anymore, such a beautiful tune
The lyric alone manages to be a masterpiece of situational imagery :"she musters a smile for his nostalgic tale" as well as being profound commentary on human behaviour: "never coming near to what he wanted to say" "What seems to be - is always better than nothing"
never mind the tune, the lead vocal, the harmonies the groove!

What is really special, you guys, is learning how Michael came on with the Doobies. The Doobies have a tremendous rockumentary, called "Let the Music Play", it chronicles their career. The band members talk a ton in it, so it is special. Also, their manager Bruce Cohn talks, and producer Ted Templeman. These men are very special, and have a bearing that is so interesting.
What I learned, is that the Doobies were bad ass going in to the late 70's. They were HUGE. And then front man Tommy Johnston got sick. Tommy is such a great guitar player, but also was a super soulful singer kind of like Michael. Tommy and rhythm guitar player/singer Pat Simmons were the heart of the Doobies. I didn't know them back then, I was getting in to the beginnings of 80's British metal & American hair metal, lol. But I learned about this in Let the Music Play, about a year ago.
Tommy couldn't sing, they were fucked. They went on a little bit with just Pat singing, but Pat knew that wouldn't last. Just a bit previously, the Doobies added a guitar player, Skunk Baxter, who had gotten fired from Steely Dan. Well, when Tommy went down, Skunk said "Hey, I know this guy who came in to the studio and did backing vocals with Steely Dan - Michael McDonald". Songs like Peg, and maybe another one I think. Well, the guys said "Ok", and Michael flew out for an audition. The guys flipped.Out.
Incredible Doobies bass player Tiran Porter took an immediate liking to Michael, and invited him over to his house, where he had a studio in his basement. In the basement, Michael unveiled his keyboard driven pop groove, sang 3 songs that he had written and were in his back pocket, and Tiran, a veteran of several Doobies tours, flipped the fuck out. Tiran recorded a tape, and took it to the guys. They were already very happy with Michael, because he swooped-in and saved their butts by coming out and singing Doobies songs without Tommy, and saved their huge tour. But they had no idea he could write songs. They just met him! At that point, Michael was a hired gun. Maybe one and done? Well......then it came time to introduce Michael to legendary producer Ted Templeman. Pat said "Mike, play one of your songs for Ted". Michael was nervous, and said "Well this song isn't really finished". Pat said "Go ahead". So Michael started, and he played Taking It to the Streets. Bumm.... bummm bumm..."You don't know me but I'm your bROTHHER"..and Ted's eyes popped out of his sockets and his mouth was agape. In front of him, was a young Michael McDonald, who Ted later called "The most talented musician I ever sat with in the studio".
And thus....the Michael McDonald era was born :)
Magic. History. Beauty. Excellence.
Do you know why skunk was fired from steely Dan? Or do you mean he was just hanging around doing some session work? I adore his solo on how do the fools survive
@@adambutterfield2307 Hi Adam. I think I may have gotten it wrong on Skunk being fired. I think he said "fired" in the rockumentary, but that might be want he wanted to say at that point.
Since then, he has said he "left". He gave a reason: "I felt that the direction that Steely Dan was headed was much more of a studio and not live-oriented in concept. I think Walter and Donald wanted to carry the studio concept to its “nth” degree. I joined the Doobie Bros because I felt that there was an incredible amount of raw talent and had a bit of a vision of what that band might become. When I asked Michael McDonald to join the Doobie Bros, I felt that vision turn into a reality."
