I love how they juxtapose the flashbacks to her idyllic old life with her struggling in the post-apocayptic future. Really makes you realise how much of living in civilisation we take for granted.

@@anassaachboune4889Well, this one seemed to do it well. In some ways the generic Post Apocalyptic setting is worse than the pre-modern era, and in other ways it's better. Bc modern things still exist, just not readily available. In post apocalyptic movies there are typically safe havens they seek. Sometimes real, sometimes fictional.
But for most of human history up until 100 to 150 yrs ago, there was very little hope of quality medical care. Virtually no hope of not dying an agonizing death if you suffer a serious injury. Or at least no hope of not enduring a long period of agony without benefits of anesthesia and antibiotics.
Almost all humans - including myself - cannot begin to fathom how fortunate we are.
If it wasn't for my phobia of extreme pain, I could picture myself enjoying being a powerful Duke or a king or wealthy merchant in Medieval Europe.
Or being a member of the aristocracy in ancient rome. But as they lacked even the most fundamental understanding of medicine, I'd rather be upper middle class american today than a powerful monarch in a stable kingdom in 12th century Europe

Some riverside towns do have life rafts in the roof cavity. Make sure to have an axe as well else you and the raft are staying inside that cavity
Nah, the water wouldn´t stay that long if the building held, after a tsunami the water typically recedes very quickly, a common mistake in movies. The movie "2012" used freezing as an excuse to keep water from receding.

"The Calm Beyond" (2020). I'm definitely going to have to check this one out. Love watching movies/documentaries that are considered foreign films from other countries. Some really great stories that are often missed here in the U.S. This one would stress me out a little though... lol.

She was more concerned about getting killed than collecting food. She wasn't overreaching thus taking minimal risk as possible. It's a good survival tactics.

If you want haunting - try Spirit's Homecoming about the hellscape Korean women & young girls (VERY young in a lot of cases) were forced into 'comfort houses' by the Japanese army. It's so haunting - I sobbed most of the way through it and the end was heartbreaking...

This is a movie I'd gladly watch instead of a Hollywood flick. South Korea's "Concrete Utopia" was also a great post-apocalyptic film.

The boy got the worse death sentence. Left alone stuck on the roof to starve slowly and exposed to the climate. Yeah, it's possible he could've figured out how to get inside the building but what then? I doubt he could figure out how to survive by himself and since the scavengers took everything back to boat, he has no resources.

I live on an island that has a fault line running alongside it. If we were to ever have "the big one", it would produce a tsunami that would hit us within about 15 minutes. A warning won't help.

After a tsunami, the water drains away. It doesn't just sit there for 5 years. It can take a few hours to several weeks for the water to drain away, depending on the weather, the lay of the land, how wet the ground was before flooding, etc.
That water tank in the roof couldnt be supplying for 5 years

Believe it or not, there's been awful flooding in south and southeast Asia this year, and the government in China has barely helped flooded towns or not helped them at all. Google news about it and you'll see. Some governments just don't pay attention to rural towns.

@@ibcyt historically not all of Hong Kong has been seen as valuable to the mainland or occupying powers, case and point being Kowloon walled city. Unfortunately a lot if not most governments wouldn't expend the resources to save absolutely everyone especially if there is a massive strain on resources that something like catastrophic flooding would cause. In my own country the USA I saw similar albeit less intense versions of this in New Orleans and Houston after bad hurricanes.
Something must have happened with the planet itself and the disaster was global -- the waters from a "normal" tsunami would've receded in a matter of days.
