I’d love nothing more than to be surprised by Mason’s improvement in September. It’d be great if he were to shut the critics. Not sure how likely that is, but I like to root against the grain and for the underdogs.

@@kenhooker2156 He's fighting for a chance to start. If he doesn't win here, his career as a starter is over. You'd better believe he's going to do his very best to win that job. He'll work tirelessly to get that job. Watch his college highlights. You can't convince me that in a system with an average offensive line and good playmakers, he can make it work. He ran a similar RPO system at OSU that he does now in Pittsburgh.
I'm here 1 year later. When he finally got a chance to play and showed that he should have been the starting quarterback all along.

Steeler fan here....I like all three Mason Rudolph, Mitch Trubisky and people need to remember Dwayne Haskins. Each has skills and talents. I like Trubisky's leadership qualities and is a pure athlete. Should be a great training camp battle. Competition is good....nobody is comfortable....gotta rise up.

How can anyone honestly say they know if he is or is not starting QB talent when the O Line was trash, receivers dropped balls like they were hot potatoes. Numerious times this man drove that team down into scoring range or potential to convert huge 3rd downs and the team screwed up, not him.
Wish him nothing but the best. Mitch and Mason both have a great chance to become leaders of what looks to be a very solid and rebuilt team this year. Nothing but the best for both young men here.

As an Oklahoman and Steelers fan I will say I like that Mason is maturing and has a new layer of class to him. In my opinion he gets more hate than he deserves and I hope he earns the starting job. His arm is great, its the small mechanics and decisions that need work.
Hang in there Mason and fight. Terry Bradshaw had a tough start and lost his starting role. Nough said.

lifelong Steeler fan here wishing nothing but the best for Rudolph. I also think he's a decent qb and gets bad rap too often. Though I give an edge to Tribusky, I wouldn't be disappointed in the least if he won the starting job. At the very least we got a great backup.
I also believe he handled this interview very well considering.

I personally hope this guy becomes the starter. I personally believe one play messed up what at the time was a solid 2019 season; the T.K.O. against the Ravens. When he came back, he didn't move around in the pocket, and didn't seem as confident. In 2020 vs Cleveland, he looked pretty good, granted he was throwing 50/50 balls up the sideline for a good portion of the game. In 2021 vs Detroit, he had a decent start, but then he struggled the next 3 quarters. But he's not the reason they tied. He drove them near scoring position twice in overtime, and Diontae and Pat fumbled their guts out at the worst possible time.
If you read between the lines during his 2019 season he was trash. 13-10 TD:INT ratio, bro was beating teams like Cincy (who went 1st overall the following April), Miami (who was 0-6 at the time) and 7-9 Cleveland. LA was a defensive win and we got lucky against Indy. Dude even got benched for a someone named Duck.
In the detroit game the dude passed for just 5 maybe 5.1 a pop and missed a wide open pass to DJ. He’s trash.

He didn't have a true number 1 because JuJu, who is a No. 2 at best, missed 4 games, Diontae was yet to come into his own, and while he had James Washington, he was the only reliable receiver. When JuJu missed time, he was throwing to Tevin Jones, Deon Cain, and a few other people that only I've heard of. His top running back missed 6 games, the backup averaged less than 3 yards per carry, and the offensive playcalling was below subpar.

Mason Rudolph is terrible. What a terrible interview. "Tomlin always wear's a ballcap at practice." No... you mean like he does like... every game day.... and in every interview?
Tomlin has always been in love with mediocre QB's. Big Ben was obviously elite for a long time and deserves to be in the HOF, but Pitt has had terrible backups that they've just held onto for years that even the fanbase hated. Charlie Batch, Mason Rudolph, Landry Jones.
Steelers fans are in for a rude awakening I think. They all forgot the days of Neil O'Donnell, Mike Tomczak, and Bubby Brister, and Tomlin and Kevin Colbert haven't done squat without Ben (or even with Ben over the last 10 seasons or so.) They better hope the new GM is a lot better.
Batch was pretty beloved in Pittsburgh man, the others not so much. Big Ben and the success he brings is going to be sorely missed
