Chicago ER Doctor Just Back from Gaza Says Patients, Medical Staff Face Catastrophic Conditions

We get an update on conditions in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis area, where displaced Palestinians who fled there to seek refuge are reporting heavy aerial and tank fire as Israel intensifies its ground offensive around two main hospitals there. Dr. Thaer Ahmad is an emergency room physician who spent three weeks volunteering at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. “I thought, 'This can't be real.’ This is not something that I would expect in 2024,” says Ahmad, who worked alongside doctors who have been volunteering without pay for months as waves of Gazans, including their own families, seek help and safety at the remaining hospitals. “They assume that the hospital can be a sanctuary, and time and time again that has been proven incorrect in Gaza.”

I am convinced my dream over a year ago of the invisible babies outside my door (facing the east) are the babies of Gaza In mu dream, I was afraid to open my door due to all the gun fire I heard in the streets. I opened my door to rescue the helpless babies, but they were invisible. I could only hear their cries. To my left, a father was scrounging around the groung looking for fire wood. In my dream I thought he was Hispanic, but now I don't think so. Shame on the US government for their complicity in this ungodly act of terror against Palestinian families, doctors/medical staff, journalists, clerics....

I almost volunteered for Doctors Without Borders for Gaza but was pushed by loved ones not to go due to the risk of death. But doctors like you who risk their lives to volunteer and aid patients at a war-torn region regardless of the horrific circumstances and dismal prognoses, are truly heroes! What Israeli doctors were "butchered" on 10/7 by Hamas? Because I can't find anything about that. But I DID find a story about Israeli special ops disguising themselves as doctors so they could assassinate people in a hospital in the West Bank (that one place where Hamas has no presence. This is a brief history of the Semitic Jews. To demonstrate this more clearly, we know that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, grew up in Nazareth, and left this world from Jerusalem, all Palestinian towns. He was a Palestinian Jew. Modern day Palestinians are the direct descendants of his people.
The east European Caucasian Jews are not brown Semitic people. They adopted Judaism in East Europe over several centuries because they didn't accept Jesus as god. They faced persecution in Europe because of their belief. Then, they saw their opportunity after world war one when the Ottoman Empire which controlled Muslim Palestine collapsed. Second, there are plenty of doctors of all cultures who volunteer all over the world in war zones, risking their lives. Doctors are supposed to be protected by international law, but that is not the case in Gaza or the West Bank, where hospitals have been targeted in violation of the UN Charter. Israel is endangering doctors’ lives in Gaza in order to target Hamas. Third, would you say the same thing about a doctor you thought was Jewish or French or Indian? Of course Palestinians will do everything they can to protect the doctors and nurses and aid workers who are their only lifelines. Hamas wouldn’t make a difference.
These are the real heroes, they are the one's putting themselves at risk to save people all in the name of volunteers while cops refuse to enter schools and save childrens.

What Dr Ahmed has done and said is so insightful. What I can’t get my head around is that the regular Doctors and staff in the hospitals haven’t been paid since November! I feel so terrible for all Palestinians and definitely more aid is needed! War is never the answer, but why has the Hamas government stopped paying their own medical professionals?
