- Panasonic G9 II is a jack of all trades, master of most. How is it for wildlife photography? Slow motion video with the Leica 200mm f2.8 prime is insanely sharp. Even with the 1.4x teleconverter. Wildlife in St. Catharine's Ontario.

DANNY.-hola salu2 from Costa Rica.
Have you tried the nocticron panasonic 42.5 f1.2 nocticron lens with the G9 MARK II and a filter IR, or BLACK MIST ? do you think the nocticron panasonic 42.5 f1.2 3d pop lens?
Leica lenses have beauty that I’m unable to describe properly. Colors are so rich.
Should you expect any less for $4500?
i have the g9ii and might sell my previous OM-1 II. the g92 is awesome.
i'm so tempted to jump back into micro 4 loser thirds with the g9ii lol. the updated 12-35 pana leica zoom looks like a great walk around town lens as well.
And they said it could not be done! Don't pretend you can see it! Ok... about 36 sec into this and I am already, literally, laughing out. I had to stop right here and say that if the rest of this content totally tanks, which I am certain it will not, but if it does... it was TOTALLY WORTH IT! Thanks Kasey for making my day a happier place! Now back to our regularly scheduled program.... LOL
Loved the examples of footage you showed in this video. Great stuff. Keep up the great work!
"I boomed the lav mic." - this is why I subscribe. 🤣
The Panasonic looks so professional. Could totally be on a NatGeo program. Kasey fights the bees. The best 1080p I've ever seen. And the colours are phenomenal.
City slicker bro came to the Greenbelt and started just tasting random fruits... This is top shelf content
That footage...just WOW! 🤯What a combo! 👍
You're making me into a slomo believer.
Dude your sound is sooooo good.
You're off ya head. Loved it
Well played, as usual! :)
With anything telephoto, you can use davincis stabilization with "translation" and no lock off for somewhat smooth turns. Use it all the time for following cars.
Panasonic for life!
This combo rules.
Your post-production skills are becoming other worldly. Canada, Vegas, next stop Hollywood.
That's a Tarantula Hawk that you saw in Vegas. You'll see them every once in awhile. 👍
Uniquely entertaining.
what surprises me is how good the colours are on the G9II, compared to older Panasonics: it's like watching a Canon footage.
GH6 and G9II easily have the best color I've ever seen on any Panasonic camera besides actual Varicam and EVA-1.
I need that color science in the S-Series :D
@@DennisSchmitz
GH6 and G9 II have the S series colour science LOL...
My S5 looked just like the GH6 in the various modes, but specially in V-log.
@@DennisSchmitz I agree, this is the main point to use the GH6
The horse is trying to escape from the T-shirt 7:57
That's insulting. Panasonic colour science is low key some of the best out there and they had better monochrome profiles before Fuji Eterna was a thing.
Regarding the ISO limits /exposure problems in some codecs, is this related to the fact that the new DR boost function which doesn’t work in certain codecs and at frame rates above 60fps etc?
Do you remember which camera/lens/filter you used in studio? Looked great. Thanks...
That Leica 200 is a bit of a budget problem.... In what dimension was the horse on his shirt existing? Looks like that 200 t2.8 with the extender would be a great wildlife/sports photography lens. Just way beyond most budgets.... Great video once again! Any St. Catherine's decisions yet? Looked like a pretty nice place. Have a great day!
The images of the bee, waterfall, etc are top notch. They look like the looping video of an 8K TV at Best Buy. I'm in the middle of something and didn't get to watch it all yet, were the G9 clips captured in 10-bit and or log?
All in 10 bit 4:2:0 v-log.
funny guy. i like your videos and passion for photography.
G9 image really looks crazy good. Best video camera for the money thats for sure
I still laugh at how he uses the term Toneh. LOL
HATE the fact that they somehow can't make a flagship MFT body small. Full frame envy. Who would want a small camera with good optics? Selectile dysfunction.
I thought so too, but the camera is quite light and ergonomics are close to perfect.
I love the Panyboy!😊
That Vegas bug is a tarantula hawk, one of the most painful stings in the world
You probably get asked this but I've stalked your videos and have yet to find the answer:
I film "a little bit of everything." Corporate interviews, amateurs hanging out and doing stuff, wildlife, and street photography.
I love what the A7Siii can do but got back into the photo/cinematography world with the GH5. I want to upgrade to full frame and likely the A7Siii ... but is the lack of firmware updates really a problem? Would it make sense to wait for the A7Siv in 2025? I'm happy with the GH5 now but the GH6 isn't the upgrade I'm looking for and I don't mind upgrading gear and having more GAS.
There are a handful of lenses that are truly amazing for m4/3 and are almost worth owning the system alone for: the PL 200mm f/2,8 is one of those lenses and I miss mine (lost it to fungus). The issue with m4/3 is (ironically) the budget telephoto end. There is still no answer from m4/3 to something like the X-S20 + 70-300, A6700 + 70-350 G or Canon's RF 100-400 on the system. It's either really subpar lenses like the 100-300 or expensive, but great stuff like the 100-400, 200mm f/2,8, 300mm f/4 or 150-400 Pro.
Also, the jump in size and weight from the 75-300 or the 100-300 to the 100-400 options is too much.
@@peterkapunkt6783 Yup.
leica 50-200 is Elite.
@@haploguy It's a really, really good lens. I ended up selling mine because I never used it. Whenever I wanted that reach, I would just bring the PL 200mm f/2.8. I think it's a bit overpriced these days though. It probably needs to come down by around 20% to be competitive.
What fungus?
Like you need to fear for hornets when you are eating poisonous berries :)
Have you ever considered applying for the Darwin Awards?
I think with your Berry eating skills, you are in with a shot. Even an honorable mention at the very least for your efforts.😇😇
Dude yeah I can’t believe he was doing that. Wtf. Why
Action camera like stab but with an amazing lens including a triple linear motor autofocus system!
8:55 funny enough.. this wasp is called "Tarantula hawk"
I wonder if the iso limit / frame rate is a thermal / power management issue for the sensor.? Or CPU...
Or that fact that it's a photo centric/focused camera that they added some features to post launch because videographers kept crying. The G9.ii isn't a video camera, it's a hybrid focused on stills. The GH cameras are for video and will those features while they gut basic photo features, so people that want stills get a G9.ii
Lumix G Vario 100-300mm f/4-5.6 II OIS already exists. Quite sharp, not a "pro" lens but weather sealed. Tested the weather sealing claim by going out into the middle of hurricane Idalia, was out and about for around six hours; made no attempt to protect either the camera (g9) or the lens, no issues what so ever.
It's a shit lens that I've already reviewed. It's way less sharp than the 100-400mm. That's why I want a pro version.
@@cameraconspiracies Yup. It's a huge gaping hole in the m4/3 line-up. It drives me crazy that you can pick-up a 70-350 G for 500 Euros, which is a pretty good lens, but we're stuck with 100-300 or $1.5k+ Panasonic-Leica lenses.
I owned the Olympus 75-300mm f4.8-6.7 II for a while. It's a great budget lens too. Obviously, it's not a professional option, but it and the Panasonic 100-300mm II are hardly "shit" lenses. They excellent for the size and price.
As for me, I use the Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO with the MC-20 2X teleconverter, which allowed me to sell off my 75-300. I do miss how compact that lens was though.
I was also impressed with the Panasonic 45-200mm. It produced some lovely images for me. I have since moved on to better glass, but if you're on a tight budget and a 400mm equivalent is enough reach for you, you could do worse.
Obviously, the 100-400mm lenses from Olympus and Panasonic are superior lenses. I have used them both. The extra reach is a huge plus, but the difference in sharpness is not as massive as you might think.
@@cameraconspiracies get the 50-200
@@danieldougan269 the 75-300 and 100-300 are just not good lenses at full stretch. The Fuji 70-300, Sony 70-350 and Canon RF 100-400 are significantly better.
As usual, I did things backassward. I discovered the Leica f2.8 x 200mm. I picked the lens I liked. It just so happened to be the MFT system. I have only had great experiences with the lens.
Leica lenses: enjoy the magic for a few days then declare bankruptcy.
Ditch the tele converter and the VND, you are crippling that master level glass (Leica 200)
? The PL 200mm f2.8 loses barely any resolution with the 1.4x TC. It's why it comes with it in the box.
Terrific video. Great humor. Great content. The Pony of Hope at 480. Too funny.
What's the lav mic you used for this video? It sounded really good for a lav mic

Was that a tarantula hawk in your Vegas shot?
Looks like it.
Even before I watch this video.
how lucky I found your channel man, I started having a hard time with all the other channels that are aligned "correctly".
Keep it (if you like 😉)
Work together assholes or cease to exist.. Now those are some words to live by!
Show us the g9II with the viltrox speedbooster and Sigma 18-35!!! my god!
So I get the sense that you dig full frame and MFT. No love for APS-C? Is this true? If so, why?
Wow! just like the moon. But not a photo of a painting. A video of a grasshopper.
Finally sold my gh6 never used it.. So now im gonna buy a G9 mark II.. Will it ever be used? Dont know.. I like those odds.. Thanks for the vid.. Thought i missed it when posted but after seeing the whole video again..i remembered.. Damn too late! But i dont mind.. Time is on my side.. 🎉
The glass is like twice the cost of the body. I would hope the footage looks somewhat good.
Wonderful episode. BTW, the hornet in the Vegas video looks like a tarantula killer. I've seen quite a few out here in the SW.
I feel like you need to wear some safety glasses with the position of your lav mic boom.
where's the lav mic
Are the Panasonic videos less sharp? Not sure.
I doubt if hanging lav mics will become a thing 😂 Still prefer the Sony A7Siii over the G9ii.
Having grown up there, I find it hilarious that you misspelled "St. Catharines" in your text, but not the usual way that gets locals riled up ("St. Catherines") but the excess apostrophe.
so... g9 ii beats the s5ii?
the fact the S5 II doesn't have PDAF at 1080p 60fps is a cripple hammer not many knew about... I just bought the G9 II for this reason. Pro-Res 1080p auto focus at 60fps... Plus the S5 II has a 4k 60p crop, meaning you don't actually have any mode for 60p PDAF!? So annoying...
I believe there is some kind of flat earth land bridge between the US and Canada that allows many of the species to migrate....
ISO if you don't have dual gain is irrelevant, if you turn off noise reduction in camera (good luck with that on Sony 😂) shoot everything at native ISO and then increase exposure (on davinc either global HDR wheel or offset in a log working space) you'll get the same result as increasing ISO in camera
Sure but you also kinda want to see your low-lit subject as you're filming it
"300 FPS is the truth!!" 🤣
The paniboy was so clear that I could see the grasshopper only had 1 rear leg.
Casey you’ve outdone yourself in the worthless comparison video department, 😂. Nevertheless, as always, I enjoyed it.
In today's episode: "Do grasshoppers have four legs, or two legs and a ginormous jumping d\*\*\* appendage?"
Wolf spider
That grasshopper was missing a leg. So it only hops to the right. 😂 More on subject: you got good footage in St Catherine. Too far away from the wildlife in Las Vegas.
Anywhere else the grasshopper would have two springers, but hey, it's Canada. Everyone in Canada, including grasshoppers say "eh," and instinctually do things to differentiate themselves from the evil empire below the southern border, like retaining a King, and leaving a springer leg at home.
at 10:31, no way you'd be able to do that on the GH6 without destroying your image.
Pretty ironic that you hate on photographers but you want fastest and faster fps. One day your video will become so slow that you will become a photographer.
😅
Dice is always kicking shins, we gotta put him back on his medication. Sorry about that 😂
Yes, so painful and unnecessary :)
Sync stabe is from yesterday, now we have the G9II. Combine it wtih the 300 mm 4.0 or 40-150 mm 2.8 from Olympus, maybe if manual focus is ok, with the old 50-200 mm 2.8-3.5 (not the nicest bokeh).
So what. I can wiggle my legs like that, too. Will poisonous berries also be on the other channel?
🙃
That’s a Tarantula hawk!Research them as their bite is worst than a rattlesnake and when they sting they also embed egg’s under the skin! Cool
Curious to hear your opinion on the iphones 15 pro. Are we getting to a point they are a legit option instead a entry level apsc camera? Pro cameras are so expensive and even more for the lenses man, this is depressing 💔
Ever considered an used DSLR? Phones produce weired stuff if you zoom into the image.
I personally would say not yet, for one reason, sensor size is still a limiting factor, as the computational photography still have some issues.
For easy shooting and stabilized casual video, iPhones are actually better than a camera, you don't need to have the 15 pro to get this convenience and advantage, a lot of phone will do, and they will all be doing well. iPhone 15 Pro adds some pro feature, but even the main sensor is smaller than 1 inch camera, not talking about the even smaller wide angle and tele camera.
But as some others mentioned, a used camera, DSLR or mirrorless camera, can be an extremely good deal. You don't have to buy something like A6700, but for example, A6000, A6400, with APS-C version 35/1.8, or some viltrox/sigma primes, can be fun and cheap.
Also I don't know about your country, but for instance, Canon 6D gen1+50/1.8STM is really cheap here if you only want to do photography. And APS-C DSLR will provide more options.
And Vintage lens can be really fun and cheap if you want to learn manual focus.
You may need to do some research, BTW, if you want to invest in mirrorless system, please check how the autofocus works, as some early model don't have a good autofocus.
@@chennyye28 don't forget, that you can do all the computational stuff with a conventional camera, too. On a PC with alot more computing power.
Lavalier mics have no proximity effect. It is a bit like using action cams for video: no Toneh - no fun.
They have 2 but lose one regularly then grow another to replace the missing one,
Dude wild berries can kill the shit out of you. Haven't you read Into The Wild?
if you shoot with a RX10 on 500pics/second thats even more impressive wiggeling the bees legs
If you promise to be gentle, I'll show you my flickers. The second bush is Highbush Cranberry, edible-if you like food that tastes like a wet horse blanket (don't ask).
Consider the lewitt 040 they are cheap and some of the best mic out there on this category (beat some 500+$ mics) small diaphram condenser goodness like in cinema.
What about the Pana-Leica 50-200, with or without the 1.4x tele? That could arguably provide better quality than the 100-400 at the cost of a bit of reach.
The PL 50-200 is a great, lens, but the 2x TC is a no bueno. Check out Lenstip to see how much resoultion it loses.
I'm sure you're right, but I was talking about the 1.4x TC, which doesn't quite get you to 600mm FF equivalent but it's close, and from the quality tests I've seen the drop off in quality is minimal to negligible @@ryankwan1934
У нас в России тоже есть странные люди, которые рыбачат на грязных водоёмах. 😄😄😄 Даже в пожарном пруде. У меня есть старое видео на канале, где я так же мельком говорил об этом.
The G92 looks amazing for wildlife. However, like the S52, no one seems to be talking about how incredibly BAD the colours are now, for skin tones, on Panasonic. You talk about Sony's Beet Red face, mixed with greens, but no one has pointed out that the Panasonic is wayyyyy redder, and wayyyyy greener. I think you'd have to mess with the colours in camera and then find a good LUT, to use with their real-time LUT system. Fuji still rules skin tones.... and the original G9... and maybe Canon.
the A7SIII is now only worth it for lots of low light footage. IBIS is way worse, codecs the same, the mount vignettes to hell, the menus are worse, AF is on par, handling is worse and the list goes on and on. Can't wait for the G9II to ginally start shipping.
Lol at jabronis
13:41 - 300mm / 4.0 = 75mm aperture at 300mm and f/4.0 so minimum of 77mm filter thread, maybe even 82mm.
Hired by Panasonic after doing the Panasonic autofocus video? That video was around 2 years ago. It took Pana a lot of time to find money for PDAF and make a body so you can make a video for them. Is Panasonic now happy with your video?
I am glad that Panasonic improved AF, saving m43 system from oblivion

Good news is if you die in Vegas that stays in Vegas. So you are simply never heard from again in Canada or on CZcams.
Not as sharp as Sony FDR-X3000.
The G9 II footage is better but the focus is superior on the Sony.
Fuji Fruitcakes can be very violent when you make fun of their IBIS and color science. I was once attacked by a Fuji Fruitcake when I said their film simulators suck compared to real film. Luckily I was able to jump on my bike and get away from that Fuji Fruitcake.
use a panasonic s5II and 70-300 and crop in 2x
I reviewed that combo already.
Dang, you caught that LARP fisherman reel his crankbait all the way up to the tip -- til he can't reel anymore, like a 4 year old who'd never been fishing before...bet they got good and drunk before driving them kids home without catching any fish: creating another group of kids who think fishing is boring(and that was boring.) So wait. You compared a 200mm Sony lens with what is really a 400mm Leica.
Yeah, don't put wierd stuff growing on the side of the road in your mouth, you might end up with worse than a swollen lip:)
Sync stabe is probably not as important as you seem to mention. Olympus 75-300 or 100-400 or dare we dream, 150-400 would be the optimum lenses for you. Let's be real, Olympus just makes better glass and my OM-5 is a fantastic freaking camera to boot
It's everything. Without sync stabe, any lens with optical stabe will fight the IBIS.
