Just got back from a few days at RSPB Bempton in the UK, it’s a great cliff top location, famous for Puffins, Gannets, Razorbills and Guillimots amount others. Using this function was a huge improvement on the original G9, every shot was in focus, the hardest thing has been deleting literally hundreds of perfectly in focus birds in flight. Your video shows perfectly how to use it and has reminded me I have a choice over how long the pre burst is set. This G9ii is such an improvement on AFC for moving subjects 👌
Thanks Andrew, great overview. I've been using this feature for a while on my G9m2 and have a couple of comments:
Firstly, there can be a significant buffer time when reviewing your photos in camera.
Secondly, make sure your field of view is wide enough to capture the fast moving subject. I've missed many shots when the subject has moved quickly out of frame.
Thanks Andrew. I followed your advice from the G9 video and tried out the SH pre burst and also 6K/4K pre burst. In the end I decided I preferred 6K/4K pre burst because then I had a video of the event, e.g. the take-off of a bird, but could also extract single frames. I did try turning the SH frames into videos but didn't find any tools that did that satisfactorily.
"Emotionally scarred for life" LOL! Next trip out will be trying this out on birds in flight. The Sun is finally making an appearance out here in New Jersey!
Thanks for this Andrew - for back button focus high speed - having pressed both buttons you can remove your thumb from the focus button and the pre still says on the screen. finger gymnastics for some !

Anything in SH burst reduces dynamic range - this mainly affects recovering shadows. Try it for yourself on a dark subject and you’ll see the difference between SH and H. You’ll see strange artefacts in the shadows of SH images.

What are do you find are the measurable benefits over the G9 (which I own)?
How do you view the new GH7 given your experience with the GH6 and G9 I and II?

Not clear how the folders transfer to my computer and what they look like in the computer.

I said in the video that the photos appear on the computer as individual files. It's only on the camera that they are shown in folders. I said it pretty quickly...but I did say it.
Hi Andrew I can find the video for pre burst on G9 liking your video on G9ii is the bird tracking better on the Gii
What i dont get is the FIXED number of frames - 20 or 60, why not 30 or 40 or 50? 60 may be too much for me, 30 would have been a fine setting for many cases.
Question....I've noticed that in pre burst it really increases the iso with the same minimum shutter speed selected compared to shooting in S. Any idea why
Hi 👋! I love your videos! I’ve been looking for a camera for landscape and can take great pictures of animals , mainly mine 🐶😁. Was debating between the G9 and the new G9II , After watching your videos , I decided to go ahead and got the G9II . I got a UHS-II v60 card , but I heard some people say that you need aUHS-II v90 instead, what’s the difference between the two? Thank you for your input and help. 🙏
The higher number records to the card at higher speeds. So if you do lots of high-end video, lots of high-speed burst action photography, you will find the v90 allows you to shoot without having to wait so long to save to the card. However it's not absolutely necessary. Most of my cards are v30, and it just means when I shoot in super high speed pre-burst, I often have to wait a bit to review my photos while the camera saves a large burst of photos.

You missed one thing on the improvements over the G9......
The G9ii appears to actually autofocus 😂
On the original the shots before the bird takes off are in focus and the rest are always out!
