  • I finally got one! Here are my thoughts on what is actually my first new camera. These are my initial impressions of the camera, and I ramble on a bit, but i wanted it to be my genuine thoughts and impressions of the camera, rather than a scripted thorough review (which will come after I've used it a lot more)

Can't wait to see if Panasonic makes a smaller body version of this. A lot of us don't want a full frame sized body.

Agreed - but I'm not holding my breath. I think Panasonic and OMD have allowed Fuji and Sony to take over the small and lightweight camera body market - although with apsc lenses, the weight and overall size benefit can quickly disappear!

Yeah, the bulk of the G9 cameras does put me off a bit. My Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk 2 has a great grip and is a fair bit smaller, would be nice to go a little smaller again... not bigger! But the G9 2 features do seem top notch, now they added the better auto focus.

I highly rated Panasonic cameras and lenses for high quality build and IQ. But reluctantly I have now sold my G9 because of weight and size. Although I'm hanging on to my small GX9 (imo an underrated camera), I recently purchased the OM5, which on first switch-on failed catastrophically and was promptly returned - not impressed by both build quality and reliability! So for me, the alternative will probably be joining the very long queue for the Fuji x100vi, unless Panasonic release a smaller and lighter version of the G9mkii in the meantime.

Great video Eli. I have the original G9 which I still love , mainly for video. Liked it so much that I bought a second one . The new one seems like a huge upgrade as far as autofocus goes

Awesome to hear about your real world experiences, especially with comparing to your previous experience on the mark 1.
Still hoping for a new GM series

Nice review 😃! I really love the G9II aswell. The biggest problem now is that i wanna shoot opengate 4.4k but my computer cant handle the edits. It just straight up dies and needs reboot 🤣

Being able to automatically focus on the bird that was partially obscured behind twigs ❤ I'm not a huge wildlife shooter, but when i try it this often catches me out!

Having shot with full frame systems, calling the 100-400mm a behemoth made me chuckle 😅 Once I have the money, I'm definitely picking up the G9 II. The only question is whether I sell my G9 or hold on to it.

Great review as usual Eli. Your new backdrop is great, and your pacing is on point. Looking forward to your next videos!

Am sat here waiting for my test copy. In the UK, Lumix will let you borrow equipment. It's on its way with the 10-25 f1.7, the 25-50 f1.7 and the 42mm f1.2. fun stuff. Maybe i leave FF?

I'm looking at the OM 1 mk 2 & your reviewed camera, the Pany G9 mk 2. I have the original G9 & will keeping it. Not having to learn a new menu system - which I would if I got the OM 1 mk 2 - gives a thumbs up to the G9 II. I whish the G9 II had - like the OM 1 mk2 - all its function buttons within reach of my right hand thumb. The OM camera has this set up. Pluses for G9 II are the larger sensor & making more of its funtion buttons that can be reassigned to something else. There is a camera store here in Sacramento, Cal that carries both the Panasonic & OM 1 cameras so I'll look into renting each camera for a trial use. I have the Leica 100 - 400mm lens that would garner duel image stabilization by having the G9 II. You touched on a number of important tips in your vid - thanks !

I would like to see how the g9ii performs with the lenses I have: 25mm f1.7, 45-150mm, 14-42mm. I don't have expensive lenses. And I wonder if they really benefit from this new model: the autofocus, the extra megapixels... :) thanks for your effort.

How about the tracking when backlit? The OM-1 Mk2 petty bad on this situation

You asked if we wanted to see some things about your new camera. How about a comparison old versus new with exactly the same pictures om the G9 vs G9ii? This could be an objective way to compare IQ.
As another person wrote here, imagine say a G90ii so a bit lighter than the G9ii but an upgrade over the original G90 with some of the G9ii features.

Yeah, very disappointed that the top LCD is gone in the Mark ii. I’ve really gotten used to it.
