That Sirui lens is quite sharp for a cine.
The legend himself gordon Laing commented on this video under the name “cameralabs”
Some nice "bee-roll" in this video. Also, the 100-400 looks fine until you see the Leica 200mm footage - then you just can't go back! That heron footage was amazing.
Bee roll was really the bees knees
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the commitment to the running "Toneh" joke? It has been years.
It makes no sense that I patiently watched this whole thing. I couldn't explain to someone what I just watched, but I was so engaged the whole time, I didn't even really notice the time passing. Every time you said "Panny boy," my smile increased by 10%. Ah, what the heck, subscribed.
2 Years ago, You said Pannyboi has no future. Now it is the future! The photography world teaches us patience! Great review! I prefer the Leica prime!
I don't comment often, but your work here is quite stunning. You pulled off some good , respectable and worthy pixels here, my man. 👍
i agree nice pixels
Solid testing, nice work! Really good examples and great looking results. I do like that Leica 200 2.8 - I once took it on a safari and ended up never taking it off!
The legend himself! Any thoughts on the future of MFT cameras? Would love to know your opinion.
@@muhammadrayhanfirdaus1309 hah! Always happy to talk MFT. I wouldn't expect many new bodies going forward BUT the fact they deliberately restricted some video aspects and didn't make an ultimate hybrid model makes me think there will be another GH at some point. But after that? I really hope there'll be more bodies, and would love to see a new small one like a GM series, but I honestly doubt it. But if sales of the G9 II are better than expected, who knows?
@@cameralabs Panasonic persisted, yes, but would you consider them "slow" and aren't as competitive like some other brands?.
Agreed that next GH is pretty much there, but, if there is a chance, I'd really love to see a new GX series body with new AF. Would that be possible?
@@muhammadrayhanfirdaus1309 anything is possible, but if you're asking me to bet, I'd say no.
@@cameralabs Sean repeatedly hinted at it telling all the time "if video is your main focus, it is not the G9ii, then you may want a different camera "like the GH6" wink wink. I think they will give it again 3-4 months and then the GH6ii will drop, or the S1ii or both
I’m sold. I definitely want a LUMIX G9II. 4K 120 with stability is all I’ve ever wanted for wildlife. I’m going to wait for the price to come down a bit.
I think that Oly needs to send you out the 150-400/4.5 for review.
God-damn, that footage of the great blue heron is beautiful.
The very similar looking Grey Heron here in Europe usually is gone as soon as you're looking at it from 50 meters away. Flies straight to Africa and never comes back.
You are getting better and better in real reviews!! Good job!!
Wonderful review. I do bird photography and just want to take photos that allow reviewers to identify my bird to their satisfaction. ( They don’t believe me if I only send a perfect written description of the bird). I think, therefore, that the 100-400 with a 1.4x will be good for certain shots, and I will get an identifiable shot due to the amazing reach of the 100-400 with 1.4x conv. - even if the photo has some flaws).
One last thing, the dude who made this video deserves several major awards for excellent content as well as for integration of superbly chosen photographic situations while explaining a variety of configurational settings for each situation. What’s more, I really got a chuckle out of his Hollywood personality and good humor that accompanied his expertise in photography. His comparisons of Panasonic, Sony, and Fuji were spot on.
I used to own the Panasonic 50-200 Leica it’s a great lens that has that sharpness and quality the 200 prime has but it’s half the weight at 650 grams and with the option of zooming out. Goes for $1,000 used.
One of your best serious videos. Love it. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks,
Your slow motion tests have answered my questions, that were still open.
Great work and funny too! 😀👍🏻👌🏼
Great job as usual - definitely considering this setup for my wildlife adventures!
The colors with the 200 mm are amazing.
Man, some of those Herron shots were awesome!!! Looked like I was watching a nature channel. The stabe was ridiculously good on the Pany. Great video!
I may trade in my R7 towards this. I really hated shooting full frame for wildlife hence the R7 but I just find this G9II so much more versitile. It's hard to explain the benefits of these smaller sensors but for me it's all about being able to balance my love of photo/ video with my love of exploring the outside world. Huge lenses & cameras made that experience miserable. Very impressed with this.
MFT also lets you use speedbooster, what other camera lets you use 27-52mm f1.2 WITH autofocus? I doubt no one does, but thats basically the Sigma 18-35mm on a speedbooster.
Thats also fun to use f1.2 full frame glass on a Metabones 0.64x speedbooster, giving you, f0.7 primes, I mean at this stage, you already superior in low light to a full frame, sure he can up his ISO, but you wont have to up ISO by much at f0.7
In my opinion, MFT is far more versatile too, you can use both full frame, APS-C and MFT lenses, its a mount with lots of cameras, you could use small travel MFT bodies or use the big ones, Olympus makes excellent photo cameras, Panasonic makes excellent GH series or the G series.
Honestly, sensor size is overrated, the lens is more important then the sensor size, when you have the flexibility of a MFT and speedboosters which you can buy today used for like 150 euros for one metabones for MFT, its hard to say that its a bad sensor, people selling their MFT stuff because they are blindfolded by perceived "superiority" of full frame, so its never been a better time to get into the mount cheaply. G9m2 is such a good camera too, its honestly a camera I probably will be using for 10 years or more, its one of those unicorns that just does it all and does it well.
Solid thinking right there, the g9ii might be great for you!
I probably won't ever leave Canon because I love my cheap, big old white prime too much, but I definitely see the appeal. Honestly never been so impressed by MFT, OM1 always seemed pretty niche to me but g9ii looks like the real deal from here!
I have a G9. They really make some great lenses that aren’t only small but very affordable. Now that they autofocus is there with Panasonic unless you really need full frame, I don’t know why someone would go with something else.
friends dont let friends buy the pana leica 100-400. Look at Oly
Waaaaaiiiit a minute...haven't seen you this positive about a set up...ever? The camera might not be quite perfect yet, but some of your wildlife footage sure is🙌
Does that sirui 24mm Night walker lense have autofocus capabilities? Or did you have someone pulling focus?

Good Shots.
The Purple Flower
awesome 🎉
Came here for the camera content, stayed for the humour!
The detail in the feathers at 9:24 is insane
Some of these shots are really magic ... well done :D.
I really enjoy your animal B-roll regardless of what your video is actually about. Solid review!
Mind blowing level of nature filmmaking 👌
I don't know how this guy makes entertaining camera review video every single time 😂😂
I really enjoyed this video, nice work.
Soo Ray my friend! No worries, your stuff rocks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Content!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍✌
the siren sound was of someone who had just bought gh6 without seeing the new g92
Panasonic is at least trying. Great shots, you need David Attenborough talking over these.
Thank you for the review. I have the original 100-400mm and it sounds like the update isn't worth getting. Maybe the 200mm at some point. I'm looking forward to the G9 II.
Puh. This looks amazing.
I'm really thinking of getting the G9MKII as I had a G9 before I went over to Sony. A6700 bird eye AF is crazy good, it even locked on when I was shooting flying fruit bats.
Animal eye AF works up to 5.7K 60p. Which is more croppable.
Nice shots!
As a longtime G9 user, I always had FOMO for full frame, but it was always hard to give up form factor & functionality in price debate...especially when using Oly 40-150 2.8. Learned to live with focus challenges, but G9 II puts that to bed.
Loving the Panny content!
The Sirui 24 mm is an good look on this video. Maybe the best.
It would be interesting to get a comparison between the 300fps (VFR) and 240fps (normal recording). 300 is a little bit faster but I think you pay with a loss in image quality. A side by side comparison with this long shots would be interesting. At 240fps, you also get sound and you can play it at normal speed so you can do a seamless speed ramp from walking and talking to running across the street in super slow motion.
Have you tried comparing the G9 II vs. the OM-1 ii with the same lenses? Great footages!!! Thank you!
Let's see some of the 2.0x tele in action, the 1.4x is internal right? The new 100-400 is made to handle the 2x? Perfect setup with the 2x 200mm? Nice video!
Hooray. You're finally coming back to the "Dark Side" of MFT...I think the G9ii is a bit overpriced on introduction but I would definitely add it to my MFT Loser stable if there are some good Black Friday or New Year sales. Then I can avoid the crazy expense of updating to FF big expensive lenses. :)
in Japan you can preorder one now for $1350 after cashbacks and offers, with an extra battery too
Wow that's great. I'm guessing we might face substantial import duty to make up the difference. It's worth a look because around $140 is perfect
Nikon Z8/Z9 has animal eye focus in 4k 120p that works wonderfully. It also works in DX mode (2.3x). Using the 180-600 with a 1.4x TC in DX mode gives you an effective focal length of 1932mm! It is awesome. Yes, it's a lot more expensive but you can get some incredible 120p slow motion and zoom to just about any length you want.
It's also somewhat heavier than either of the G9mk2 setups presented here...
@@tomaszstramel3594 That is true.
what's $4k and 3lbs between friends
handheld?
Do you ever shoot in Variable frame rate for slow motion? Or always just higher frame rate and slow it in post?
Have you tried the PL 50-200 f2.8-4.0 which is compatible with the teleconverters?
Panasonic respecting and supporting you directly is a win-win for everyone. Curious to see if they will commit to supporting their cameras with useful, long-term firmware updates, unlike Sony.
Finally, you have a camera with good eye AF, god I was waiting for this. Keep that g9ii and keep using 4k60, it's clearly the best wildlife camera you have now. That heron at 4k60 was legit some of the best footage I ever saw from your channel, that was cinema level shit. Finally, shots in focus lol. Gonna be brutally honest, you're probably a god at MF technique but it's just never the same to me, good eye AF is already way past the human limit for MF imo. And the stab is super impressive. Feels so good to watch!
It's not my camera to keep lol.
I currently use Panasonic and have an Olympus 300mm f4, fantastic. I guess I'll have to get the new G9.
Do you still have the Olympus 75-300 lens? I'm wondering how it works on G9 II?
Hope you have the opportunity to have a go with the OM 150-400 some day
What about Panasonic 100-300 II 5.0-5.6? Not sure it works with teleconverter though. It's a great lens. I had it for a long time.
Would you rather have 4K 120p or 1080p 300p? I think the 4K 120p is slow enough, and it looks fantastic.
Also, how is the autofocus with Olympus / OM glass? Asking for my Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO.
Other potential purchases for me would be the Olympus 100-400mm or the 300mm f4 PRO.
I seem to remember you saying Panasonic cameras need zero other features than phase-detect autofocus. So, now that it has that, is it the perfect camera?
Leica is great and I learned about it from that movie Eurotrip.
Really love that BEE roll footage!
But seriously, I've seen other reviews of the 100-200 that claim that the zoom ring changes with use. Maybe it loosens over time, so starting Toulouse might result in such eventual slack that you'd never want to take it on a Low-Trek. 😆
Great review! Did you have issues with the time it takes to turn on and start recording?
Curious on this as well
He replied to a similar question. It seems to have been much improved
@cameraconspiracies Hi is me... Danny, What a demonstration my friend, I loved the Panasonic shots, I think they are putting up a fight, and you are right to recognize it, they are listening to you little by little, come to Costa Rica to film wildlife.
Really impressed. How is the stabe on the 5.7k 60p, is it still jerky?
Big issue on the GH6 is the IBIS on 5.7k and 5.8K, the IBIS is not as good as 4k.
I think the lens you're looking for is the Olympus 300mm F4. That being said, I'm not sure if it works well with a Panasonic body .. maybe try to get an OM1 with it just for content :) The Panasonic 100-300mm F4-5.6 is not going to WoW you but it's a very light lens and fun to use.
Did you sacrifice the Panasonic Pony now that they have PDAF?
I am very impressed with the g9
Yep! ... Panyboy is the ATV of cameras . I have two old Lumix Bridge cameras and they still pack a punch .
FZ80 and FZ200 ...
hi, from the video I have the impression that the stabilization works better on the 100-400 compared to the Leica 200 mm. Is it just an impression?
I can't wait for the g9 ii to come out it's AWESOME!
Yep. I actually preferred the 100-400mm footage for that reason, stability beats rendering in my book.
Might be the best video I've seen from you. Penny G9 II might be checking all the boxes for you. Time to start a new channel. ROFL.
I like the 40-150 f/2.8 pro for 150mm reach, 300mm with the tc, but then you're at f/5.6 and a bit on the far end to be without IS. The versatility is nice, but the extra 50mm reach of that 200mm prime is appealing. I would say the 300mm f/4 Olympus lens is a good option, but that price, it kind of puts it out of reach for most everyone.
Do you get linear manual focus with TC and new leca 100-400 on G9II or it is the same as on the GH6 focus ring control is disabled?
I don't think the 1.4x tele is capable of linear focus.
@@cameraconspiracies I look forward to the new DMW-TC20A 2x teleconverter. Hopefully, Panasonic addressed this problem. There is work around what I use with 1.4 TC to get linear MF. I taped 2 extra contact pads on 200 mm f2.8 lens that TC use for communication. Unfortunately you loose correct aperture readings in camera and have to keep in mind that aperture is 1 stop slower, but now you have linear focus with 200F2.8+1.4TC combo.
1100mm equv hand-held and it is stable
The G9 II is camera of the year. I want one. I'm going to get one. It's enough of an upgrade to my EM1 MkII. The lens tho? Not sure which one.
Does this mean the Pony of Hope is changing to the Pony of Perfect Focus?!
Is the two second recording delay gone on the G9 II? Nice cinema.
It seems improved. I didn't notice any EVF lag after pressing record and it suddenly "kicking in" after 2 seconds.
Love the Black Crowned Night Heron, we have those here in Arizona .
Olympus 300mm f4 PRO for the win! Honorable mention: Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO with a teleconverter. That's what I use for wildlife.
Great job on the video Kasey! Thanks for making it.
So Pani did a Canon bone-head move. Can't zoom out with extender on. Not as bad as Canon. Has some nice video features, but I only do short video clip so limited use for myself. They changed a number on features from the original G9 that were great. I had the G9 and it was nice, but the hair trigger shutter button was very annoying. I went to the OM-1 camera and is a great camera and now paired with the 150-400mm TC1.25 lens. With the Sync I.S. between the lens and camera, just amazing. 600mm is not all one needs for wildlife. The camera will be suitable for certain people, but not for others.
Were any of those shots supposed to be in focus?
Accepts teleconverters! nuff said.
Using the previous Panasonic 100-400 I was moderately successful at filling the frame with candid long distance subjects, before selling it.
4K 120 looks amazing. 300 HD ok (+Topaz enhanced could be great?).
So is the G9ii the perfect camera?
> Never knew a bee had those lumps
That's the pollen they've gathered.
Yes I need 800mm eq for wildlife! I would like even more! Some animals you just can't get close to. Almost all my wildlife shots are at 400mm (800 eq).
I really think I'm sold on the G9ii. That said, the 100-400 mkii doesn't appeal to me since I got the original on my hands. The use of a teleconverter on that lens does not make sense to me since I now rarely use it past 300mm, and that zoom ring... I hate it lol.
When we thought they were finished, Panasonic comes back strong 💪
The things on the bees’ legs are pollen. They collect it there for transportation back to the hive.
Holy smokes that footage looks amazing! Is your camera channel coming to an end now? You must work to find more flaws, so the camera channel can stay alive!
4k120 is just orgasmic.
All this G9 II hype is legit, still I am waiting for the GH7
haha b-roll 3:19
What do you expect in the ultra-zoom video of the heron?. You had 400mm focal lenght X2 crop m4/3 crop factor + 1,4X teleconverter + EIS + your mother’s lecture glasses! For me is very acceptable quality!
Did I understand correctly that optically the second version 100-400 does not differ from the first one?
Yeah it's the same shit they're both soft.
No, it's not the same. Otherwise it wouldn't have higher magnification capabilities.
I will test it with my Olympus 100-400mm once I sell my GH6 and buy this one.
“Do you need 800mm…” Yes, yes I do😄
100-400 II is a pretty underwhelming upgrade. 100-300 f4 internal zoom is the dream for Panasonic but the (likely high) price would be hard to justify.
omg 4k. an astronomers photographys dream. make a vid on the moon with that plz^^
I bought the Olympus 100-400 purely because it supported teleconverters. It was ridiculous that the first version of the Panasonic 100-400 couldn't take the teleconverters. I hope the committee that took that decision were taken out to the back garden and cruelly tortured by being made to use old Kodak disc cameras and let them go to every camera store in town looking for disc film before telling them that no one has made disc film since 1999. They should then be paraded through the streets wearing "I am a moron" tee-shirts.
Same reason I went with the oly instead of the pani. 100-400
@@nolanwest6831 Panasonic does some really stupid things, like never making a 17mm f1.7... so I bought the Oly 17mm f1.8 and I am very happy. Panasonic can't be bothered making a macro that competes with the Oly 60 or 90... so I bought the Oly. They have never bothered to make a competitor for the Oly 75 f1.8... you get the picture.
@@nolanwest6831 Are you happy with Oly 100-400?
lumix 100-300mm ii and use digital ex-tele option for more reach.
Leica 250mm f2.8 with built-in 1.4xTC. Same sharpness and OIS. That would be an awesome lens! Or 300mm f4 with built-in TC but as sharp as the Leica.
when you put something on the business, happiness ensures.
Nice video samples of nature. Really pleasing to watch. Thx)
Curious what the Lumix G9-2 will do with my Olympus 300mm f4 Pro Prime? The stability on the lens does not match to Lumix system IBIS but maybe the internal G9-2 IBIS will be enough. Am able to cross-over AF and other Lens operations freely between Olympus and Lumix lenses. Really like my Olympus M1-Mk3 with the Olympus 300mm Pro prime. Maybe the Lumix G9-2 and Olympus 300mm Pro can be a good fit for cinematic AF.
For handheld video, dual IS or Sync IS is a must, especially past 200mm. For photography, not a concern.
@@Wildridefilms A valid concern, I over looked. Dual IS between the Oly 300mm Pro and my Oly M1mk3. If I were to do a G9-2, would mean also investing in the Leica 200mm Prime to achieve Dual IS, and at least 1.4 converter. Am pleased with my Oly kit. Possibly Lumix took too long to finally achieve something, from when I was in Lumix system before. Stuff to think about.
@@don_at_large maybe you could use just the lens IS. It might be usable.
@@Wildridefilms Thank you. Can recall now that you mentioned it. I did see a review where a Lumix camera internal IS was turned off while using the Oly 300mm Pro IS in On position. Also I believe, did same with Oly 100-400 on a Lumix camera. The stability seemed effective enough. Worth a try. Am not all pleased with OMD-OM1, which is why I like my M1-mk3. Just not certain OMD can improve OM1 with only firmware updates. Based upon Kasey's review, the G9-2 seems Lumix finally developed a smart camera...
@@don_at_large Yeah, stabe might be good enough with just lens IS. About the Oly 100-400, that doesn't have sync IS, even on OM bodies, so people who own that would see little to no difference between a lumix and an OM body.
