- This customer really needed to get the real estate agents off her back. After living in this house for 15 years, it was time to move and the yard required some major work. The customer called me up to do a quote and when I went around, I noticed that the bushes were well high and overgrown. I did the quote, but the customer didn't really want to spend a lot of money on the property, as it wasn't hers! She just wanted it all cleared, so it would pass the end of lease inspection. I then offered her a deal she couldn't refuse - I would adjust my price to suit the budget and do a full yard makeover. That way everybody is happy, the customer, the real estate and my viewers. I spent around 10 hours on this job, including 3 trips to the landfill.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working. All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved.
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. Currently, I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k on a good ride on mower.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on in there.
4. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering we always take the green waste away.
5. I will get one as soon as all of the above are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?

The tenant kept the grass cut but the trees and bushes are extremely overgrown. It takes a lot more work and time to get that all trimmed down.
Really nice work, George. I know there was a lot of trimming and removal, but there was no rubbish. For 15 years of living there, it’s looks like the lady was a good tenant.

Because it had overgrown its space. It was planted in the wrong place - too big for where it was planted. George just put it back in its bounds and it will fill out and just need trimming to stay a "good citizen" in the garden.

So, on one hand, the current tenant needed a yard neatening for an end of lease situation. On the other, the yard had become overgrown over the years and even parts forgotten or lost...so it needed renewal to a fair degree. Interesting to watch design lines reappear. Liked your solution in cutting-up the entrenched metal planters. 19:51 A definite sense of pleasure as the peace of the design begins to manifest. Nice work George. The tenant has a release to go forward, leaving neatness for the next people and some new people will enjoy the home, yard area.

When I owned properties, I expected my tenants to keep the yards free of trash and neatly mowed: I did not expect them to prune and maintain the plants and trees that I had placed on the properties. Therefore, I would send in a landscape company in once a year to do a major cleanup. Yes, it was pricey, but my properties and the tenants both benefited from the yearly attention. You do beautiful work, especially for a one-man outfit. I really enjoy your videos each week.

Your work and attention to detail appeases my OCD-ness, I garden vicariously through your videos, love how you always seem to attack the garden methodically and progressively adapt the degree of cleanup and pruning to make it all work and give a great result for the punter. Top marks for this job, reckon it should pass with flying colours if I were the landlord. Some of the trees really need to be removed, gone feral, half dead, but that's as you say up to the owner/managers.

Being a rental shouldn’t mean neglect, a simple prune and mow would have kept it under control, it’s like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted!
