Now that Little Mac's the champeen, we got all the original pugilists itching to get their mitts back on that belt! And they are NOT afraid to bend the rules a little! ...or a lot!
First up is Glass Joe. This dude wised up to his namesake and went with some training headgear to protect that jaw of his! I'm not sure how it's fair for him to take that into the ring, but, seeing that they regularly pit Little Mac against guys more than twice his size it's not too much an irregularity.
So, Joe takes me for a trip. He's really stepped up his game! And I, uh... I was taking a nap. Yeah. I did take him down in the end, though! It does sound like you can knock off his headgear, but I flubbed pretty much all of my star punches, so no-go.

Go for the knockout punch! It's Punch-Out!!(!) This title is a true-to-form reimagining of the classic Punch-Out!! titles! And 60 frames per second will let you see the animation to the fullest! You've got the simple and rhythmic dodge/punch controls, your star punch, and a super-stereotypical array of contenders to bash! You can just feel the love that went into making this into a game to be cherished by the fans of the series! (It's good for newbies, too! This was my first!)
Your goal is to knock out your opponent, and to do so you need to look for openings! If you just throw punches at random they'll be blocked. In general, you'll dodge a single or series of punches and then when they're open for retribution you respond with your own! There are other methods of attack, and the game will introduce a few to you as a key method for attack, but in general it's "Dodge-punch-punch-punch"! You'll often get stars for a star punch (a more powerful attack) if you take advantage of these more secret techniques.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention! You have two ways of healing yourself! If you knock the other fella down, you can mash the punch buttons to regenerate health as long as they are on the floor. There's also the super-secret-chocolate bar! Press "-" between rounds to heal a LOT of health next round. Only can do once per match!
I played through this game once in the past using the Wii Remote/Nunchuk scheme throwing punches left and right, so this time I'll try the more classic method of the Wii Remote held sideways, buttons only.

In the defense of people who lose to title defense glass joe, they just came from me.sandman where they needed split second reflexes to survive. They’re not used to glass joe’s slower punches.
You know what, thats probably it! Before moving onto Title Defense, i was re-practicing Sandman a ton, so a slow opponent ironically became my downfall, lol
I had to close the game 2 or 3 times out of fear of loosing the belt, i'll need a lot of time in training mode
Not even that. The punches in title defense do more damage and glass joe has this fricking hook delay

I think you might know this by now, but Glass Joe gets the headgear because he lost 100 matches. If you as Mac lose 100 matches, you will be able to wear the headgear too. Unlike Glass Joe's though, your headgear won't make you invincible, but it will make you suffer far less damage. You then have the option to wear it or not if you choose. (However, I don't think you can wear it in Challenge mode either way).

I don't get why most of the people that Watched this video is calling this guy bad. It's his first time playing against all the fighters, also glass joe TD is 10 times harder then the contender glass joe, the reasons why glass joe TD is that he moves faster, sometimes he can dodge star punches, his tricky timing can throw off the player, and everyone can see that he has headgear now making him a harder opponent.
Also I think the player not being an expert makes the fight more interesting

Seems like the headgear gave him a bit more zest. His new idle animations portray him with the confidence and mean-mug of Mr. Sandman. Love it!

The most humbling and foreboding fight in the entire game. It takes about a minute in before you realize that you’re struggling against Glass Joe. And if Glass Joe is giving you this much trouble, then what’s the rest of the Title Defense gonna look like? How bad is Mr. Sandman gonna be?

I wish they made glass joe spin off campaign. It would be fun to see glass Joe legitimately win the title. Granted the joe campaign would be super frustrating (could get alot of you tube rage quit videos though).

I don't know if I'm thinking about this the wrong way, but here it goes. If Mac is the word champion in TD mode, and to get to mr sandman you had to beat all previous circuits in contender mode, doesn't that mean that Joe fought and beat everyone to get to the title bout, INCLUDING MR SANDMAN?
Nah. I think they're just directly challenging Mac rather than going for the climb since they all were already established boxers. You know Joe didn't beat any other boxer since his win count doesn't change between Contender and TD.
Glass Joe here is pretty much the second fight against Don Flamenco in Mike Tyson's punch out!!
Yes, with those stalled lazy punches, except he doesn't taunt to get you to punch. He tricks you to dodge, to get that right hook. Flamenco is fun on title defense.
Im glad im not the only one who got oofed by TD Glass Joe because his delayed and slower attacks literally made me bluescreen

My head canon is that Glass Joe is actually a legitimately above-average boxer - it's just that he's terrified of getting hit in the face (hence his classic nickname from the NES manual - "France's Glass Jaw").
With the headgear, he no longer has to worry and can actually focus on the fight - being able to move and hit faster and harder, perform feints, and just being a much more confident fighter.

Title defense Glass Joe beat me the first time too because I underestimated him. Also his punches have a delay that makes them harder to dodge.
I got it. When you can't see his eyes, that's when he's trying to feint you
I fully recommend doing the challenges in exhibition before going to last stand. You'll learn a lot about the fighters little tricks and their patterns.
It’s actually interesting see someone struggle with Glass Joe and I mean that in a good way and in a sense in how its better seeing someone struggle to fight him than knock him out first round easyspeezy style.
