    On my 2nd watch of the show, it hit me like a house fell on top of me when it clicked inmy brain that just like June was saving the children for Angel's flight and had started an underground network- Harriet freaking Tubman did this in real life! Not only her, there were others like her who they don't teach about in school. This actually already happened! It made the show somehow 10 times more emotional. I wept for my ancestors.
    In the show Gilead is about 7-8 years old.
    Black people were enslaved, brutalized, families ripped apart and owned like cattle for over 400 years. Written into our nation's constitution as not human.

      I hope you get over your brutal anti-white hatred. Sure, you hide it behind sentiments about slavery that no one disagrees with and would support you saying publicly, but it's clear you have a deep seated disdain for the country. The same country that fought a war where hundreds of thousands of white men died to free those same slaves, where the founders fought since it's inception to eradicate slavery and only included the 3/5ths compromise because it was necessary to secure to Constitution and prevent the country from falling apart before it even began which (spoiler alert) would have prevented the 14th Amendment from ever being created in the first place and would have allowed slavery to continue much longer due to the lack of an established national government. But sure, take umbrage because our country, like almost every other country at the time, had slavery. By the way, are you equally upset over the modern day open slave markets existing in Libya and across the Middle East? Just curious.

    How much do you think officials of Scientology coached her on what she is or isn't supposed to and allowed to say about their religion? Scientology is well known for raising and networking "Hollywood" actors to promote their organization through popularity and connections. She likely stays within the religion's order to maintain her career because Scientology is also well known for stalking and tearing down careers and lives of former members. Its a sad joke, the role she plays and that she does it so well. Perhaps she has practice 😶

      She displeased Margaret Atwood in one interview. When asked if The Handmaid's Tale was a feminist novel, she said no. She had to retract and reverse on that, as Atwood was NOT happy about it. Atwood is one of Canada's most prominent feminists, the story is women-focused, so of course it's a feminist novel.

    • @debrahurst4130
      @debrahurst4130 Před rokem +1

      @@Shan_Dalamani In her opinion it may not be feminist, but she does have to be careful what she says. Women have different views of feminism. I don't personally like the word. Theres bad and good with it in my view. Why can't we all just be treated like humans? Women deserve to have rights, but that doesn't mean our roles have to be exactly like a mans role or vica versa. Men and women are supposed to be different physically and emotionally.

    • @Shan_Dalamani
      @Shan_Dalamani Před rokem +1

      @@debrahurst4130 Yes, I know. But the novel ticks every box to be considered feminist, and I'd say that Margaret Atwood has the ultimate say in that since she wrote it. Moss is an apologist for a misogynist cult that treats some women like property (ie. the number of times they've arranged to bring in women for Tom Cruise; if he likes them and they obey his rules, he keeps them until he tires of them). I don't think she's one to say that this isn't a feminist novel.
      (that said, I deplore Atwood's notion that science fiction has to be set in space or have alien monsters to be considered science fiction; she clearly is confused about the fact that dystopian fiction is a subgenre of science fiction because it deals with the social sciences)

    The Scientology backlash is kinda stupid. Yes, Scientology's views aren't accepting of many things like LGBTQ rights but I feel it falls upon the believer. Moss has clearly stated that she strongly supports equal rights and other, I guess you can say, progressive and liberal views.
    Remember, the (Christian) Church doesn’t believe in gay marriage or gay rights but some or many of its believers do. And Moss falls into that category with Scientology. It's a case-by-case thing.

      I dont care for any religion but the catholic church is not currently involved in stalking members and destroying anyone who leaves the religion and speaks out. Miss Moss is in a cult, this cult just has lots of members and power.

    It is fun to think that she might be on liegh reminis’ defunct show one day. While i do believe everyone is entitled to their own religious belief i think that this role is a deceitful portrayal of what is going on in her own community. It is ironic that she would take this role given her own “beliefs” strike so close to home. Or maybe she is just that great an actress.

    You wont find the truth of what Scientology really believe on their websites and the people arent going to tell you either. Elizabeth is a good actress but in reality she could be more like Serena or Aunt Lydia. We have no way of knowing if she's telling the truth. They try really hard to cover up Scientology. The only way we know anything about it is because of the ones that had the courage to leave and have opened up about what its like. On the other side, she may not be a big fan of Scientology but she wouldn't tell you that either. I think she grew up in it so leaving would mean leaving her family and friends behind. From what I have heard, like the Amish, they shun the ones that leave basically.

      @Shan_Dalamani Před rokem

      Yep. It's dystopian fiction, not a documentary on race relations. And I'm more than fed up with all the screeching about "how DARE they have white women suffer!"
      Newsflash: Sex-based slavery isn't new. It's also not over. Women of all racial backgrounds are trafficked, bought and sold, every single day, including as I'm typing this. And slavery itself has been around for thousands of years, all over the world. Some was race-based. Some was religion-based. Some was economy-based. Most of it was a combination of everything. If the Romans invaded, they'd haul everyone back with them who they thought would make a usable slave, whether women, men, children, and they did NOT care about skin color.

    PUKE on Moss!!! She made another series and left Handmaid fans waiting forever. PUKE.

  • @mugglescakesniffer3943

    I think they do address race in the show at times. But they need fertile women to repopulate, any fertile women. They also make women marthas and wives and they both are subservient to men and basically house slaves. This is about struggle in a major way and in something as dire as The Handmaid's tale they are looking at each other as humans knowing most of them are screwed by Gilead and death is a very real threat all the time. If it's my life and those around me I am going to hand a weapon to anyone who needs help to get out of Gilead and I am not going to be doing any soul search about your sex, race, color as I hand you that weapon. If you are against Gilead I am with you.
