- The little-known heritage of the Negro is explored in this premiere program. Host Ossie Davis, Basil Davidson (British writer and historian on Africa), and John Henry Clarke examine the civilization and achievements of ancient Africa and their significance to the American Negro today. Footage shot on location in Africa reveals traces of the old African cultures - Nubian, Egyptian, Ethiopian, and the West African civilizations of Mali, Songhai, Ashanti, Ife, Benin, and Timbucktoo. Mr. Davidson, author of "The African Past," "Black Mother," and other books on Africa, emphasizes that African history as recorded by white historians has traditionally ignored the old civilizations of Africa below the Sahara.

Ossie Davis is the man, he was in one of my favorite childhood movies Gladiator set in my home city.
Very important commentary which opened up explaining the digestion of media itself, something the corporate oligarchic media now doesn't want us to think about. They want us to assume the media is just like running water or electricity - a utility, neutral, for entertainment. But that is obviously not the case. Stereotypes provide social control and coercion. netflix does such a fantastic job continuing this trend, and disney as well. This documentary series was really good, thank you.

So here is my take on “our true identity and culture”
Many people have moved around this planet that we call earth for more years than we can be sure of. And they didn’t always move because they wanted to. But whatever the reason, they carried with them what they carried with them and left the rest behind. They made the most of their cultures and practices no matter where they ended up.
Our identity and our culture is right there in the story of black people.
And the story of black people is not about any other group of people who may identify as black outside of the US. Why? Because that was the term designated to the negros here in the US. And the more you dig into what was actually going on in the beginnings of this country being settled there was a lot of interracial relations. Also, not all people of African descent came here as a slave. Idk that much about European history, but this sentiment that Africans were beneath them didn’t always exist. But anyway. When white women had these babies with men who weren’t white, they took on the status of the mother even if the father was a slave.
Have you ever asked yourself what came first interracial relationships or laws making them illegal?
Again…in the story of black people is our identity and culture. I’m embarrassed by some the behavior of modern blk folk. But the overall story of blacks people is one to be proud of. It should motivate and inspire our youth! It should empower us. But it doesn’t because it’s not given to us in that way. We aren’t searching for identity or culture. We’re searching for something to be proud of….to everybody else. But our story is one to be proud of.

The difference here was that we the Jamaicans had a rest from the British Colonialists, while The US suffered under their constant watching an control through lynching's and other acts of terror and brutality. During this time of rest from Britain and other dubious Colonial powers, Jamaican slaves Started owning their own land and farming. eventually learning to read and write without the overseeing eyes of the oppressors, so we quickly started to adopt a different view to the power struggle; 'we were in charge of our destiny' and the British for the most part left us alone in fact, Jamaica was the first colonial nation to have a railway system built by the British of course to extract metals, sugar and other goods, So the Jamaican economy boomed during the first part of the 20th century. The first humans were of many colors and not just dark. Adam and his wife who are the parents of mankind came down to earth from Paradise where they were created. Paradise is the true home of mankind. No one is superior due to color or ethnicity, what makes one person better than another person is piety to God Almighty. We Muslims believe in Jesus but not as God and we don’t believe God has a son. Jesus peace be upon him is a prophet and Messenger Of Allah (God) and he is the messiah. He wasn’t killed as Allah saved him before they could get to him. There is also scientific and historical miracles mentioned in the Quran such as the formation of the human embryo as well as the creation of honey in bees. There are Islamic prophecies that came true and will come true and I recommend everyone to try and learn about them. I myself know of people who were ill and suffering with issues (including black magic) and got cured miraculously when the Quran was recited over them. I invite everyone to learn about Islam.
