    Whats the difference between the focer and the ubox? If money was no object which one is better, as i feel like safety first over money too

    • @leonchang7596
      @leonchang7596  Před rokem

      By no means an I an expert builder, but in my opinion, unless you have a floatboxx or elm box, where it’s super rigid and have plenty of room to house things, focers break more than anything. I have broken 3 focers in the past 6 months by running it inside of a printed box, and have seen too many focers blow up on forums. Focers also doesn’t come with a contained metal housing, Bluetooth module, fuse, power button, or any wires that connects it to the switchcrafts. Although ubox 80v only supports up to 18s and 100A (vs 120A focer), it’s still super high performing comparing to a FM controller, and it’s built with a ton of margin so some people overclock it to 150A without issues

    Whys the 80v 100a one cheaper than the 75v 100a version on their website lol, is there smth im missing that's better on the 75v 100a version? If not why is the theoretically lower spec vesc more expensive? Thanks

  • @hungwensun
    @hungwensun Před 9 měsíci

    Leon, any chance you can explain either in a video or this comment regarding differences with 84v (20s2p) vs 75v (18s2p) batteries (is it really range vs top speed). Also why were your lit focers unreliable compared to the ubox? thank you for sharing your build it's super helpful for the diy community!

    • @leonchang7596
      @leonchang7596  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Hi! Glad you find it helpful!
      essentially watt hours = range, and higher voltage = higher top speed. The reason 18s2p has higher range than 20s2p is that it is possible to pack in 21700 cells for 18s pack inside the torque box, but if you go with 20s2p then unless you do split battery pack, it is only possible to fit in 18650 cells in the rear box. Even though 20s2p has 4 more cells, each cell is smaller, therefore less capacity/Wh, therefore less range. If you build a 20s2p 21700 (many experienced vesc guys do this with split packs, and floatwheel), it will have more range than 18s.
      I believe my focers are unreliable because i was running them in 3d printed box. I think focers are really sweet if you have a beefy metal enclosure, 3d printed covers, and have everything bolted down. Since it’s basically a naked pcb vs ubox with a metal enclosure, it’s way easier to break, therefore it requires better craftsmanship to work with it.
