Barmouth Viaduct by Motorcycle - 360 interactive video

  • In this interactive 360 video, feel free to move the camera around as I traverse the Barmouth Viaduct on a motorcycle. Using your mouse, controller or finger swipes you can interact with the camera to position it as you like as the video moves along.
Because the weather has once again thwarted my plans for new video this week; and because a lot of folk asked me about riding across Barmouth Viaduct in my last video, I thought I'd post the full ride across the bridge in a 360 video format, so you can see for yourself what it's like.
Please know that I'm aware that the quality isn't great, this is a limitation of CZcams and also partly because I'm still experimenting with the best way to make these videos (the chest mount view doesn't work that well for this!). These 360 clips are meant as an interesting/informational type of extra video and they're not replacing the normal video type.
A few points about the crossing.
1: Crossing the Barmouth Viaduct on a motorcycle is 100% legal to do. But be aware that although most locals know about this, tourists probably won't and if you ride it in the height of summer when the bridge is full of holidaying pedestrians, you should expect a few puzzled or even angry looks. A pleasant and patient attitude when crossing should see you across with minimal hate from the public.
2: There is an honesty toll at the Barmouth end of the bridge. I didn't fully realise this until it was too late, but I'll be sure to donate double the next time I ride the bridge.
3: This toll booth is also the narrowest point of the route, most bike's handlebars will fit through, but you may need to remove your panniers if they're excessively wide (looking at you GS riders).
4: At the Morfa Mawdacch end of the route, the ride starts/ends at the public toilets. There is a double restriction bar thing across the path that you need to go down. This is not there to prevent you from riding on the path, only to slow people down. The bars are easily navigated around, but you'll need to go slowly, unfortunately I did't film this bit in 360, but don't let it deter you from riding the bridge.
If this video inspires you to ride the Barmouth Viaduct yourself, I hope you enjoy the trip. It's one of the more unique motorcycling experiences you can have in the UK and I'd recommend it to everyone.

Very much enjoyed the video cheers Matt. Even tho the viewing quality is slightly compromised when compared to your usual well
polished productions, I think it works really well when you post a 360 vid every now and then. 👍🏍
BTW, my Digley pannier arrived yesterday. Very pleased with the quality of materials and it’s carrying capacity. Excellent product and service. 🙂
    Thanks again.

Glad to hear your bag arrived safely Paul and that you're happy with it, hope it serves you well on your adventures. It's a shame the 360 function feels a bit like abandoned tech by CZcams, I find these sort of vidos quite interesting in a novelty sort of way. Not something for every video, but now and again I think there's a place for them.

Absolutely awesome Matt! And no 360 editing for you. Time saver and crowd pleaser at the same time. CZcams add-on for you CZcams influencers or something available to just me Ron? Cheers Mate!

    • @ClassicRides

It's available to everyone Ron, I think it's a sort of 'abandoned' technology from CZcams as it never really took off, I quite enjoy it though 🙂

I think it's classed as a private road owned by Network Rail, so it's a permissive route that the local council don't really get a say on. They do need a few more signs up to let people know though.

      @ClassicRides  Před 2 měsíci

Thanks Ralph, decided to put a lot of the bike back to its original state (including the gaiters). For me personally it's too big a job to fit the gaiters; but when my bike was having the head bearings replaced, I asked them to fit the gaiters at the same time since the front of the bike was off anyway.

Hi Matt, I usually watch CZcams on the tv so it’s taken a bit to realise that this function isn’t accessible so watched it on my iPad.
Interesting route to take, hope it’s 1 way😂
There is a channel I watch called The Likeable Rider & he uses a 360 camera, he did a trip around Scotland with some good shots.
Looking forward to the next video…Les

Thanks Les, I should probably put a little explainer text at the start of those videos. I won't be doing a lot of the interactive 360 videos, but in some situations I think it's interesting to let folk control the camera.
I follow The Likeable Rider too, though I haven't gotten round to watching his Scotland videos yet, must make time for that!

No it’s CZcams, I used some of the same footage on the previous ‘normal’ video and it’s decent. Must be some sort of data constriction for the much larger 360 data files.
