You have to use a CMMG radial delayed blowback barrel with their bolt. The barrel has the complementary cuts to the locking lugs on the bolt. That’s what allows for radial delay.
I’m in complete agreement with you in regards to 9 mm PCC for home defense.
I’m not wild about using a 5.56 mag that’s been retrofitted for 9mm, not unless it has an unmistakable visual and tactile differentiation from standard mags.
However, I’d still rather have a dedicated 9mm mag, as I could fit more of them on a belt/chest rig/carrier.
I built the exact same pistol with aero handguard, upper, lower but with the cmmg deticated 22lr barrel & bolt. I love that little pistol! I was gonna do same thing with cmmg 9 but instead I just bought the cmmg Dissent MKG9 2 weeks ago. Having the folding brace with 6.5" barrel makes it super small & compact. My buddy has the 5.5" 9mm banshee. The Dissent has even less felt recoil because it has less than half the bolt weight plus a completely different buffer system. I've got 800 rounds through mine so far. Steel cases Tula, multiple brands of brass plus 124gn- 147gn federal hst & Speer gold dot HP's. It's been 100% reliable so far. Eats everything I've put in it. Definitely recommend the Dissent MKG9!!!!! Awesome pistol bro
Great job explaining gentlemen. We also went with a CMMG barrel and bolt. I ordered a complete upper. All you need is their bolt and barrel. I went with the Aero EPC lower and had to remove the ejector as it was not allowing up to close the upper. I don't believe you will have this issue if you go with M4E1. However it is a pain to put the Glock mags in and I most likely will replace the Aero lower (EPC) with the M4E1. I did go with Kynshot hydraulic buffer and Vltor extended buffer tube and Tubbs springs. The gun shoots so smooth. It's like shooting a 22. I have a couple hundred rounds trough it and it has yet to fail to fire.

Built mine with the CMMG 9mm, 8" barrel complete upper, paired it with a Stag Arms mil-spec complete lower. Used an
Endomag 9mm Pmag insert. Ran it today, without a hiccup. I'm thrilled to have found my favorite PDW for home defense as well.

With the mil-spec lower, I can use a Glock magazine insert or Colt magazine insert. I happened to like the use of Endomag. Its a lot less
complicated and less expense.
I've heard that a kynshot buffer or A5 buffer reduces recoil even more. The CMMG bolt and barrel is the GOAT.

I just really feel like a Laser is such a useful part of home defense firearms. Sometimes you just wont have the time, Space, or mobility to look into your sights. I can literally be holding from the hip walking through tight doorways hiding in closets, and fire from any position and hit the target.
A laser you could toggle would be ideal. Same with a flashlight. You don’t want somebody seeing where you’re coming from or know where you’re looking at all times.

What did you use to clamp the upper while you installed the barrel nut? I’ve been looking into building a pcc with the Cmmg kit but I’m guessing a normal reaction rod won’t work?
I found the banshees for only 1250.00 & the new dissents for 1645.00 online. Plus I had a coupon codes that save me another 200! So I got my Dissent for a decent price!

I love the ar style and last bolt hood open. Forgive me I’m new to this and never built one I’ve only had pistols lol.

so there is no need for an AR 9 ejector? does the CMMG bolt handle that? and im guessing since its all ar-15 its also last round bolt open with that build?

Looking to build one too. Deciding between 9mm and 5.7x28, and 5” vs 8”. My main concern, accuracy. I have Aero upper and lower with Laws Tactical folder so it will be compact. I don’t need something to spray all over the place.
I’m confused. That bolt doesn’t look like my 9mm for my ar9. How does that shoot good but not mines?

hi, thanks for this video, very informative. question: is the upper receiver and the hand rail standard 5.56 ones? or do i have to buy 9mm specific upper and hand rail? sorry if my question is a little stupid.
not a stupid question! It's all standard but an upper or handguard isn't caliber specific. The barrel is.
so the barrel and bcg are specific. You could use the same upper and handguard for like.... 6.5 grendel. You'd just need the grendel barrel and bcg

Hoping you’ll answer. I have a spare m4E1 upper and lower set. I want to build the same pistol as you. All I need from Cmmg is the barrel, the bolt and the endo mag kit? No mods to the ejection port necessary?

I ordered everything to turn my m4e1 into the same set up. What spring and buffer weight do you recommend? I have standard spring with 3 oz buffer available. I also ordered a 308 spring with 7oz 4” buffer
everyone on the team just runs standard. If you add a silencer you mayyyyy have to play with it.

So if you swapped with a 556 or 300blk upper, would you also have to swap the buffer? Or could you use the same buffer?
Same, all standard milspec. We're not fans of playing the buffer spring and weight swap game.

@ThinLineDefenseCo in addition, what buffer weight would you recommend if you wanted to swap back and forth between a 300blk and a 9mm? I am very new to ARs, so I am not sure if the questions I ask are dumb or not. Haha.

I'd go the standard buffer tube if you can. For the 300blk you may need an H2 to slow the system down. But 99% of the time you don't need that. Swapping buffer tubes with the upper is more obnoxious the more times you do it too.

Yes you need the CMMG barrel to work with the BCG.
How is the reliability with the converted mags?
Perfect. I think every teammate has this setup now. No issues after a few years.

Seems like this idea of theirs came about for people like me that have an ar15 lower but want a pistol caliber.

Not PCC. That's a PCP. CMMG is missing out on the people who actually WANT a Pistol Caliber CARBINE. I still haven't seen 16inch barrels. Not even 13.7 pin and welds.
Correction- I see the 16inch 9mm barrel and RDB option now.😂😂😂😂
