@Brendon Morris what does that even mean
This dude modified HIS car HIS way and did it himself. That itself is worth all the respect we can give him.

Torque steer is the 4 lane change with out turning
Yeah, I think he was saying you'd change a lane with each gear change. 4 gears=4 lanes. Since it wasn't built for the additional torque like an EVO would be, they don't have the same counter-measures to limit the torque steer.
@@HPSFRoadrunner he said he could do all four lanes in only 4th gear, no downshift, or even shifting at all
How goes 2 lanes?

I’m honestly more surprised by the fact that the magazine is as recent as it is given my first thought would’ve been early late 90s/early 2000s.
Cuz it's Australia.
This is definitely several years past the prime of this stuff in Australia in the early to mid 00s. I think Hot4s was basically dead by this time.
2010 was when stance was getting started ffs
This style car was normal in California in the late 90's. There is a delay....When UK and AU/NZ started building really fast Hondas, that scene died a bit. Poor enthistust go B series while those with more money go K series. Most raced these days not really seeing street duty. Some 2nd gen Honda runners own new Si's and Type R's as daily drivers. Again a delay...
Thought the same, but they've mentioned in the article that he inherited it from his grandfather 6 years before and that was when the build started, thus meaning it started in 2004. Also, I suspect it was already completed for a good while by the time it was featured in the article, maybe he had just done some finishing touches.
I haven't seen this much filler since Moog kicked in the fender on the Blue Turd.
That was a great episode
ahahaha great memories
we need more electric space wizard
I was thinking the same thing but I think they've been doggin on this car and then they realized it was a father-son project and decided to give it a little bit of a buildup instead of continuing to call it crap
Builder needs to be on the show
0:09 sorry but the most amazing thing to ever appear in MCM was the civic PVC roll cage, 5+ years ago and I'm still laughing my guts out

It can turn without turning due to the Toque steer!!!
toque steer, I that what they use in Canada when the steering wheel is too cold? Use your toque eh!
Magazine was released in 2010? I thought big body kits and decals were 2004 when pimpmyride and needforspeed were hot.
Ray Alli it was still somewhat popular in Australia in 2010, however no where near as popular as before. Probably died out completely around 2012
S-spec cars like this starded to be popular in the 2000 and died out in around 2012, they are prob going to have a come back soon since there hasant been any major game changing performance mods, any idiot can make 1k hp car these days
Ray Alli lol in some parts of the world sex spec cars are still a thing. But yeah after about 2012 when car manufacturers started to get into the trend of pre pimping their cars from factory with big wheels and flashy body parts the sex spec car scene died in most places.

As an owner of an obscure car that I’ve built with my father over some years I loved this. The time and work that went Into this car is amazing regardless if it’s your style or not. So happy you guys found the article.
Such a quality mini series you guys crack me up.
When I was younger my granparents owned a stereo shop where we held many stereo competitions for show-cars like 2wistd. It was always crazy to see or even build some of these setups. Doesn't matter if the car was built for show or for sound, they were all one of a kind
Watching these videos on 2wistd has brought me some nostalgia. Looking at old photos I don't understand why this kind of thing ever died.
We should bring it back.
I think it's a change in economy and cars. Young people can't afford to spend 100k on a 5k car now. Housing prices are nuts. Cars haven't been 'cool' for a long time, with the focus being on emissions, safety, and entertainment features over actually making interesting cars. The guys that built these sexspec cars grew up in the 80s and 90s when there were endless relatively cheap sports cars to drool over coming out all the time. Manufacturers almost went bankrupt doing that, and now many of them don't make a single interesting car. There were also still tons of 60s and 70s cars around that their Dads grew up with and modified and had a good time in, so having a cool car was always something to aspire to. They couldn't afford to buy the 'real' Evos and WRXs that they wanted, but they could buy a shitty Lancer and throw on big rims and a stereo, then get hooked and spend tens of thousands on custom interiors.
Kids today haven't grown up in an interesting car world, they've grown up in an appliance SUV world where the most interesting thing about them is they can stream music from their phones. They're not interested in putting giant chromies on a Civic in the same way no one is interested in modifying their fridge. And the guys that did build sexspec cars are now in their 40s with kids and can't afford the money or time to spend on a car you can't drive legally or take passengers in, and has no resale value.
@@AfferbeckBeats I think the new Honda Type R was made for exactly this demographic
The show car scene died because all the younger generation now have brand new cars on finance and put stupid amounts of camber on the cars and they think it looks “cool” you go to a car meet nowadays and that’s all you see unfortunately, I miss the old days when you went to a car meet and everyone’s car was unique.
damnnnn that purple lancer was hu57lr evo before it got the yellow interior! that cars still kicken my mate owned it recently for a while
how cool is that seeing the car you brought in a mag,now that's cool.hope it goes as good as it sounds guys.
The amount of actual work into this is amazing. It's nuts
You gotta wonder how many show cars of the past magazine still exist in some form. Were they crushed? Hidden in a warehouse or shop? Or still on the road?
We must find them all!
exactly, just as the ancients once said "gotta catch em' all"
I’ve seen a couple of magazine cars from my country. One of them (an Eclipse) was still driving in a sort of Frankenstein existence with the original show bits mixed with replacement oem stuff. Imagine overly show bumpers with big holes showing the bare chassis of the car because the mesh covers were gone a long time ago mixed with cheap steel wheels, faded paint, ricer rear wing held with plastic straps, broken side skirts and cracked interior full of holes where speakers once were. It’s awful lol. Another I saw (Lexus IS) gathering dust outside a house on top of blocks as a skeleton of it’s former self with most of its stuff removed, it didn’t even have wheels anymore and I’m guessing most of the drivetrain was removed as well.
I scrapped my twin 1990 ish magazine cover car I built, VW beetle roadster. I didn’t have a garage, so the rain pissed in, and the work was too complicated and built for short term show and not long term go. So I parted it out. I even sold the magazines that featured the car at a swop meet for a quid each. It was my first car build, learned a lot, moved on.
I'd imagine many were stripped of the show goodies then sold as "old lady driven" or "stock"
Cannot wait to see this thing drive now
Wow icing on the cake, this is so cool. The GAB's stand out the most for me, ran these on the S14 for a long time before upgrading. They are still making coil kits as assigned by KYB.

"Ability to change lanes without steering" refers to the amount of torque steer the car has. Love the videos, keep it up
Guys I did it! In your last video I said you had inspired me to get my old sub up and bumping again and I did it! I confirmed the amp still worked using a 12V power supply and a cheap 6x9, then took it back home and cleaned all the contact points. It was then that I realized that the power cable had completely turned to oxidation where the ring terminal was connected. That is why I couldn't get power at the other end. But I trimmed the wire back and it works now! I need to splice into one of the stock speaker lines to get a signal, but just running it from my phone it was shaking they whole house and making my dogs go crazy (according to my wife) can't wait till I can jam to some banging tunes again. This rust bucket of a winter car needs at least one redeeming factor lol
4 lanes without turning means it skews across the road when you boot it.
Torque steer!
Yeah, that’s the torque steer the magazine talks about like it’s a good thing. Lol!
The "Can change lanes in 4th gear without turning." means it had so much torque that when you floor it it pulls hard into another lane. Anyone who has driven a high torque rear end car knows that feeling.
Jason Leon isn’t this a front wheel drive car? What do you mean by rear end?

In my country Malaysia. We called this model proton putra. They have a 1.8 mivec engine as one of collaboration between mitsubishi and proton. Very popular untill today.
Put a central and rear diff on it and make it a real evo, put 2sexy back in its place
And watch the power atw drop. The more drivetrain you add the less power get put down. He would need to make a fair bit more crank power than 2sexy to keep up.
They went through hell doing that to the Mira, I doubt they will ever undergo that process again.
@@liamcooper5202 its a 4g63 it will be easy to make more power than 2sexy if it's in decent condition. Nobody knows the limits of 2sexy and Marty isn't going to blow another motor just so he can win.
@@cody8860 yeah but it for the most part will have stock rods and pistons for a evo 3. It wont make massive power on stock e3 rods sure it might be more than 2sexy but once you throw awd on it it will bring it back down and with 19s its not going to be by a little
FWD has a lot of wheelspin in the Lancers. They could easily do it with the 4G15 1.5L carby donk that was in them too. The 4G93 1.8 EFI span easily too. When I put 4G93T and 4G63T motors in Lancer coupes, sedans and wagons the torque steer was fun... aot if fun! but the grip sucked. Too much loss of power through the loss of traction was a let down. If you go AWD yes you lose power to the rear diff, but it makes up for it in launching, handling and strength. If youve driven a FWD then AWD really hard and around corners etc, you will choose AWD everytime over FWD.
Stock EVO internals will do 300kw atw FWD no problem. With forgies in it, put a bigger turbo on 2WISTD and bigger injectors on E85, if done right the thing will make 370-400kw atw FWD. Just wait and see.

I have so much more respect for this nugget after this episode. He built it with his dad, respect!

Lucas Myatt They need to register the car and finish it up first
Exactly. They're expending so much spittle blithering on about this car that it better levitate and time travel: no other result could live up to the endless chinwagging.
Why would the Evo III gearbox be locked to front wheel drive? Must be a typo.
I was hoping they'd emphasize more on the modified transmission. Very interesting
Because AWD gearboxes have a centre diff that transfer power from the engine to the front wheels and to the rear diff via a viscous coupling unit. It splits the power to front and rear wheels. Transferring power to the rear diff/wheels robs power. So when you use a welded viscous coupling/ weld the centre diff to lock the centre diff, the RWD split is taken out of the equation (because it doesnt have a rear diff why lose power trying to drive them). So now effectively you have all power going to the fronts only. Ive done these mods lots of times as I built the W5m33 transmissions for all sorts of uses AWD, RWD or FWD.
@@MYDODGEYUTUBENAME woosh :P But good explanation nonetheless.
@@MYDODGEYUTUBENAME You don't have to weld the viscous coupler to send power power to just the front wheels, that's not how those gearboxes work. The front wheels are driven directly through the gears of the transmission and the rear has the viscous coupler between it and the output shaft off the transmission. Not saying you don't know what you're talking about but I've been inside these transmissions as well.
@@david929190 . Its probably the way I wrote it as I had just gotten home from hospital still doped up lol. Ive done the welded centre diff, welded vcu and aftermarket 1 piece billet vcu locking spline. It depends what was available at the time. The problem with using a vcu locking spline is that power still goes to the centre diff and you can make centre diff salad out if it because its the weakest link. I would much rather weld a centre diff (using a damaged one from another build) as its unbreakable. Then as you know, cap off the output shaft. There's a few ways it can be done. By spending money or not spending money.
Guys. We should bring this era back. It's only a matter of time. As one of "those guys" that are about function (not really, my daily is a Dirtfish-y N/A SG Forester with a shit ton of decals), I think the whole Fast N Furious era should come back. My daily beater was inspired by Moog as I did everything on my Subaru that I would have never done on my weekend race warrior S2000. Every once in awhile I'll see one of the most outrageous cars that seem like it came straight out of the sex spec era, but it's one of those cars where you can tell the owner put a lot of dedication into... I just can't talk shit about it. You just look at it and go: "You know what, you do you...more power to you".
Glad you two appreciate cars like that. I remember when you hooked up with the 88's and they welded some pipe on the exhaust to make it look like Mickey Mouse. Why? Because it looked cool. That's it! If there's anything that's pure, it's that authentic love and care for their rides.

It's a lot more tasteful than the really over the top stuff, you can tell it's a few years more modern.
