Can My Bass Survive A 29,003 Mile FLIGHT? Gruv Gear Kapsule Test & Review!

- Last year I purchased a Gruv Gear 2EB Bass Kapsule. It claims to be a hybrid of a soft case and a flight or hard case.
So I thought what better way to test this claim by taking it on a world tour (with Bat Out Of Hell The Musical) through the UK, Germany, New Zealand, Australia and then back to London to see if it can bring my Sadowsky bass guitar home in one piece.

Great review. I have the single version of this and love it. With regards to the damage on the casters Gruv Gear does recommend that the they are removed before going in an aircraft hold. I have a Player series J Bass which I used to transport in a practically blast proof metal flight case. The combined weight of this was 24kg and was a problem. When my Kapsule finally arrived this saved me almost 8kg. This include packing some cloths in the soft section. My bass has an East Retro pre amp which has 3 double stacked pots. These did get suffer minor damage which was very easy to fix. I now put a couple of kids very oversized Lego type bricks over the pots which protects them very well. I’ve tried to attach a picture but CZcams wont allow me to.
I’ve had this thing (single version) since 2019, and check it on flights pretty much every week. I’m surprised how well it’s done. Last week the shoulder strap buckle snapped but I was able to order a replacement and they didn’t overcharge for it. I completely agree with you about the wheels. It’s annoying taking them on and off and also I regularly get flagged when I go through the X-ray scanners and they’re in my backpack. It would be great if they integrated the wheels into the case like on my SKB iSeries. When they originally pitched it for crowdfunding, they had the a polycarbonate shell design for the top as well and I wish they had stuck to that. Overall though, I love this case.
Oh I hadn’t even thought about your point with the wheels and x-rays. Yeah that does suck.
It’s a good case. I don’t really use it unless I’m flying as it’s a bit of a hassle but certainly for flying I’m very happy to take it out!
Yeah kinda wish the top was the same as the bottom with hard plastic.
Thanks for this review
My pleasure!
Thank you guys! Just caught this today, would it be okay to share on our socials and embed on our website to help others see your experience with the Kapsule Duo? 😎🙏🏽
Please do! It’s been a great case so very happy to shout about it!
Thank you!! @@OnlineBassGuitar1
We must travel with an LP, SG, and a Jazz bass. Could you imagine squeezing all these into this safely? We could easily make foam padding if needed. What do you think?
I wouldn’t risk that tbh. I think three instruments in a space designed for two would be very compact and I worry that would cause problems for the instruments.
Also, the fit on a bass model won’t be very snug when used with guitars so the instruments won’t be held in place that well.
@@OnlineBassGuitar1 OK, thanks for your feedback!
